maybe even if bower feels like he is right we should give him a weeks rest and not even play him in the twos. if he keeps coming up sore or re-injuring himself id much rather that he take the required time to recover rather than come back one week two soon and be forced to miss AGAIN. i wouldnt mind leaving the team as is, have to give hampson and grigg some time you'd think. feel we will need a lot of run and pace against the dogs so if there are question marks over anyones heads then hopefully theyl be replaced with someone who is fit.
as an aside, good to see casboult kick 2 and get in the best.
fwiw i dont think fisher will get a run if at least 2 of setant/hampson/waite/henderson can spend a reasonable amount of time down fwd crashing the packs, but i might be biased as i havent enjoyed watching fisher play

I am ready

You will be needed to block for Juddy, are you up to it? You will be hammered at every contest & buried into the turf on most occasions. You will also be criticised by supporters for being too slow & not having good disposal skills because every one of your disposals will be made under great pressure from the opposition.

sounds like my marriage

Makes a win even more crucial after the Tigs come back to beat Sydney. A win, and a probably Hawks loss to Geelong will at least have us a game clear from those sides snapping at our heels.

A win will turn the Doggies into one of those sides snapping at our heels.

They are also exactly the sort of team to play us back into form.

I'm expecting Murphy, Hampson, O'hAilpin and Grigg all to be much better for the run against Brisbane.

The dogs are one of the few teams WE play good against and not the other way round.

Maybe try and fit lucas in but not sure for who othrwise... rack em up

Go back to the Bay flog.

The adults are talking.

We rarely promote a player and then demote them after their first game.

Looks like a bay post to me - the only one to bring down the tone of this thread

As Warnock was supposedly narrowly edged out by Hammer - he would be disappointed if he did not get a go this week after Hammers lame effort. Ratts was not happy with Hammer and it would seem like dropping him would be the way to ram home the message. If he wants to nurture him he could put the acid on him to perform this week but I cannot see how that would do much for Warnock's confidence

Looking at the draw, we are virtually no show of making top four, and almost no chance of missing the top 8, unless we beat at least three of the Pies, Dockers, Dogs and Cats. 6 of 8 from here on in would possibly get us there. Tall task.

Obviously we are looking at Sydney or North or a fast finishing Adelaide to finish 8th. If we can't finish top 4, 5th is the place to be. Any lower and we will be taking on the Hawks in week one of the finals and that is not a position I would cherish. Some think the Hawks will rise to 4th or 5th but they have the Saints, Cats and Pies still ahead of them so I don't think they will get above 6th or 7th.

We simply must win against the Dogs to get the jump on 5th place and the easier first up final, if there is such a thing. Win one final and I confidence will grow.

Either way, us Brisbane based fans got to see the boys play finals last year, the masses in Melbourne will get to see a finals game this year.

I certainly think trying to pick the spot in the 8 is a dangerous process. Play each game on its merits and try to not have the drop offs we have had. Certainly teams like PA and WC will be dropping off big time yet a game at Subi will be a big danger game with the Perth fans ready to spill blood in their club. Coaches/players playing for their futures so NO game is easy.
Our form is not good at the moment and teams like Geel Haw StK WB Freo & Coll are clearly more consistent. We can beat all on any given day but we never know which team will turn up.
I see the Ess game as being a vital confidence game looming but we must play a week at a time.
Momentum must be built now and kept up getting deeper into the season. This rollercoaster ride we are having is counter productive

I can't see why we shouldn't be aiming for 4th or higher at the end of the pre-finals series. The fact is we're the only team to have thumped both the Cats and Saints. Our issue is consistency against the middle-of-the-road teams. There's too much of a difference between our best and worst.. But, we have the talent to go all the way. There's no question about that. The ball is in our court.

:)

No doubt parrot we can aim at the top 4 and even the flag
the problem is the ball is in our court and we let ourselves down.
We can beat anybody

Match ups will be interesting, they have a lot of medium sized players like us which is why we've generally matched up on them pretty well recently.

Hall - Jamison
Hahn - Bower
Grant - Thornton
Higgins - Armfield
Murphy - Walker
Johnson - Russell

Boyd - Joseph
Cooney - Carrazzo
Cross - Grigg
Griffen head to head with Gibbs

Gilbee - Houlihan

Could see a lot of other options though so it could be a fair bit different to that. Went for Carrazzo on Cooney rather than Boyd because he goes a lot better on outside types than inside mids. Hope Bower is available, we're gonna need him.

I think JR or Walker for Higgins. I reckon he'd be a bit to strong for Army. Might be one of those games we see Army freed up a little.

Even though Higgins has been out for a bit, he's a massive danger.

As usual, if our midfield turns up, and we have good inside 50 pressure from our forwards, we will go close to winning. Need to disrupt easy inside 50s for them, otherwise our backs won't have a chance because their skill level is so good.

I'm unsure whether Hampson deserves a spot after last week. Happy for it to go either way. It'd be nice to give him a fair go, but if he's in the side because he offers more up forward, yet cannot go close to holding a grab, he shouldn't be there. I only got to see the last quarter, but he should've taken 4 or 5 grabs inside 50 and spilled them all. So frustrating.

Setanta's mobility seemed to be a problem last night.

His gait when sprinting looked restricted. I know he missed the Freo game due to a calf complaint - me thinks this is still an issue.

His main attributes are his athleticism and competitiveness. If his body isn't right then he's not much use out there.

If he isn't 90-100% by the Doggies game I'd sit him out and seriously consider bringing in Wiggins to play a defensive role on Lake.

I'm stunned it took 4 pages for someone to bring this up. He seemed clearly not fit to me.

I'd rest him as we were a far more dangerous side when he was fit and firing at the start of the year. We need him right for finals. At the moment, he is not contributing, and no-one who has seen his last 5 weeks of football is going to take him seriously as a decoy.

Grigg may as well stay in till Mclean is ready. He worked his way into the game I thought, and we know what you get from Hadley in the seniors and its not the answer.

Hammer deserves at least a month, then we can decide what structure we want to take into the finals and stick with it.

Conclusion:

I'd bring in Bower for Thornton (assuming the former is fit).

Then I'd bring Lucas in for Gibbs, and play Gibbs as a HF rotating through the midfield with Murphy.

Murphy I think would play more HBF and mid unless they change it up from previous weeks. Johnson also likely to miss with an injury

Carazzo did a job tagging Gilbee last year very well so could get that job again. Joseph won't get Boyd as Boyd always goes to Judd and they have had results go either way. Picken will prob get Murphy although Murphy did a number on him last year.
