Seems like we are finally picking the right players in the right spots. But to be really honest the injuries to Murphy, Doc and Pitto have been a blessing and forced the match committees hand.

Also, midfield structure much better (despite tonight's clearance numbers) since Barker hung up his hat.

Defensive structures are poor and still need a lot of work..

But...
How good is it actually having a midfield that actually clicks and works together...
Walsh, Dow, Cripps, Kennedy, SPS, Curnow, fogarty & Newnes all worked great together tonight
and the best thing they lowered their eyes going forward and connected with our forwards...

Midfield was slaughtered in second and third quarters. Mundy, Brayshaw and Serong all won their battles in that period.
still big queries on depth - but Teague refused to throw Martin, stocker or Curnow in … which makes us vulnerable but speeds up development.

It's his endeavour, his mongrel, his intent... he always flies the flag... leadership qualities.

It's what happens when you have the midfield applying defensive pressure. Couldn't keep it up for the whole game unfortunately... but it happened when we needed it!

the correlation between what our midfield is producing and what our side is producing is almost identical.

With respect, this is a prime example of the dangers of looking at the stats to judge how someone played. It was his 1%ers that made the difference. Going back with the flight, tackling with force, covering for his teammates. Was a brilliant back pocket game.

Would love to see Martin (when fit), Fisher, Stocker, Fogarty all rotate through there more as well.

And about the “right” positions for players (talking Stocker - agree SPS ideally would have been played more in the middle)

Good gritty win against a determined and dangerous opponent
Pros:
- Dow’s first half was electric
- Stocker superb with his attack on the man and ball
- Kennedy influential again
- Weitering is a wall at full back
- Walsh’s goal
Cons:
- Need to fix up our clearance work
- Our third quarter
