Not much to say about that game, but bank the win and move on!

The coaches though got plenty to work on, but it from the luxury of a win

Let’s move onto the next game and chalk up our third win :D

Why are so many calling to just forget this game and put it behind us?

I'm sure most would love to do that... but shouldn't...

What I saw today was:

our defence get absolutely sliced on the rebound...

The most brain dead f50 entries...

Decision making akin to a pack of headless chooks...

This has been happening for years...

There's no reason our whole team should be pushing forward like as if they're playing soccer... they do know there's no offside rule right?

There's no reason for us to blindly send the ball into our f50 straight down the throat of the opposition... time and time again...

Every week this team puts us through hell...

There's no real structure to our play other than to take the ball up the line out of defence into a contest and hope for the best.

We don't kick to forwards on the lead much at all and when we do, the kick is shithouse...

We are winning games off the back of talent... that isn't sustainable...

Winning with that many players down on their usual output (Weiters, TDK, Harry, George etc) means our method is stacking up. Very different game to last week, where most were either good or very good.

Cripps and Newman superhuman. SOS with his most complete game for a while. Acres and Hollands were gutsy, Charlie clutch, Durds gave us a huge spark and Mots just makes good decisions.

The way we’re playing might not always be pretty, but it’s the kind of footy that keeps you in the game and wins finals. Go baggers.

Special shout out to saady off the ball. He was a defensive menace stopping all the transition stuff gws was doing. The boys need to watch the replay highlighting his movements off the ball. He just makes a decision and goes 110% in his frontal pressure.
Slight caveat on that….after 1/4 time.
He was loose an unaccountable in the 1st qt, which lead to at least 2 of their goals.
I noted he was playing like a millionaire in the GD thread, and he wasn’t on his own, but to his credit he rectified it.

Different opinions on here about Cripps effectiveness Tonight. Gws coach thought “he had an enormous impact on the game…”

Starts about 4.25 mark.
I think he also noted the game Newman played on, wait for it……………Greene!

Yes to all of this. What are we arguing about?

I think we’re a team that age profile, talent says should be top 4 and in the premiership hunt.

Todays performance was midpack, for all the reasons you said. And it is not an outlier, it IS this team.

So are we good, or are we shit? Are we improving or are we stagnant?

Do we have to strip back and change to go ahead - or do we plough on (2.5 from 3 is pretty good!) and hope it sorts itself out?

Love to see the dismissal of the ludicrous calls I’m reading on Cripps’ impact with his 42 disp and even more on Newman’s magnificent game on Greene. How about being rapt your captain has found some good touch after an ankle concern and his hands were great. Or he led by example at contest with 20 contested. Not perfect but very very good. Don’t get me started on what I’m reading on Newman. Apart from being lost in the zonal set up in transition in the first a couple of times (all our defence were due to pushing up the ground so he wasn’t alone), he played the perfect game on a potential match winning player.

Absolute mint game from him.

I’d bet my house that there was a f’ing thrown in there.
Regardless, you can’t do it anymore, free kick, it was probably the last straw for that ump, he’d had enough.

You've completely missed the issue, this has nothing to do with swearing at an ump. You can clearly hear the umps mic when he’s explaining to Whitfield why he gave the free against Coniglio i.e “he’s arms were out and he said why’s that not a free kick, that’s dissent”. Which is a joke, I’ve seen so many players this year with arms out mouthing “what for” and nothing being paid. Cowman did it on their forward fifty in the fourth and wasn't pinged. So the fact the umpire decides to pay dissent for what Coniglio did, out of the blue, in a tight game, directly in front of goal is dubious. If it happened against us we would be livid.

The umpires have no discernible impact on any game of football.

Couldn't give a s**t if we continue to win ugly all year
You’d think 20 years in the wilderness and almost 30 since a premiership would build a degree of appreciation for the results crafted this year.

This group has gone through some learnings over the past 26 rounds and good teams know how to win any which way, including ugly.

I know for a fact that a player was given the responsibility of minding Toby Greene, I’m equally certain that person was Nic Newman. I also know that Toby had 5 touches for the game. I’m going to triangulate those facts and come up with the conclusion that Nic Newman played another effing good game. Once again, spare me.
Yes all true. But what Jimster is saying is, and maybe I'm extrapolating this a tad, is that, rather than Nic Newman, it was actually Sam Walsh who snuck into the GWS locker room and put some itchy powder into Toby's jocks.

Actual footage of Jim after Nic Newman plays a good game.

Just a few of my thoughts:

We are growing and learning as a team, in all 3 games this year we've been able to gain momentum, unfortunately lose it, then get games back on our terms. No way would we have been able to do that last year.

The ground and conditions today were shite which definitely impacted us. In saying that, we made a lot of errors we shouldn't have and we definitely should have kicked at least 5 more goals.

It's better to win ugly, than lose honourably.

We just need to keep winning the games we're expected to (hopefully not as ugly as today) and the rest will take care of itself.

The skill level in most of the games I've seen this year have been average at best and I'm not sure why, but we are definitely not alone in the way we played today.

Toby Greene normally tears us up. Brilliant game from Nick Newman

And Voss " I thought Nic Newman's game, was an incredible game. To be able to play on Toby, who we rate really, really highly, he is a very good player, to minimise his influence on the game, the way that he did, it was an exceptional effort from him"
