Not sure Doc gives a rats about SuperCoach points was my implication. Crappy conditions, sloppy game and he was first class.
he probably doesn’t. But the question was around why a 39 possession game could only result in 87 SC points.

And the answer is 7 turnovers, over 80% uncontested footy, only 61% DE, 56% kick to handball ratio, 0 tackles, 10 marks but all uncontested, only 2 clearances. He scored 136 or something in AFL fantasy which is just the accumulation of raw numbers with no ramifications based on what you actually did with the ball, what stage of the game it was (ie junk time or game deciding). You lose points when it goes to the opposition.

FWIW Cripps only had 112 because he also sprayed it, while Kelly was 148 and Newman 132.

Cant praise Acres enough for that goliath effort today. he played like a champion with a suspect shoulder.

One of our best trades in recent times.
I was going to mention this. When he cringed I cringed and never gave up on the challenge. Teammates will look at this as leadership qualities. Really hope its not severe.

Probably because he was at the front end of the tidal wave into their forward line repeatedly, there will be some turnovers given he is our nominated exit option. He gets uncontested footy because he finds space and gets it in space from teammates. The tackles is a concern given it was a slog.

Funny how we seem to have become more of a Marvel stadium team these days. For so many years we couldn't win there at all. Now it's the only place we perform at our best.

I wasn't expecting a "percentage booster" at all today but I do next week.

If we could put 100 points on a Clarkson team it still wouldn't be enough.
100? Didn’t you mean 1,000?

but I wanna win sexy! Is that so much to ask?!
We haven't won sexy for 25 years! Though it might not be far away. A big chunk of the list (mostly youngens and the big 6 or so are looking capable of blowing sides away. However with a number of the list, winning sexy ain't on the cards till they are replaced / upgraded. Getting there but still a few to go.

I really try to be a positive and a glass half full kind of person, but when I see Fish and Lob’s effort or should I say lack of effort, all I see is red, and wasted spots on our list. Not positive about them at all. They are fast becoming whipping boys 1 and 2 for me. Supposed talent in spades yet we never see any of it!

Really hope they spend some time in the 2’s and feel what it’s like to earn the spot rather than assuming they’re walk up starts. Maybe that will change the effort, attitude and output. ?

Surely there’s better options knocking down the door!?
How about Dow? How about Honey? Cunners? Someone!

I've just sat and watched the first 3 quarters that I only heard audio for while driving home. It has changed my perception somewhat.

1. The game wasn't as bad as I originally thought. We had a lot of discipline and application. It was just one of those games and the Giants do have a lot of classy players.
Forward 50 entries by the Giants almost as bad as ours.

2. Cripps was far better than I first thought. I knew he got a lot of ball but how he did it didn't come across while listening. He really lead from the front and tried to bring his troops with him. I feel like he's covering the ground a lot quicker too.
Incredible game. Could have used it a bit better, and last week's game where he gave it off to better users was the blueprint. But this performance was mighty.

3. Newman had a good game, but in those 3 quarters, he was on Greene in the 6-6-6 structure, but they were barely on each other in general play. I saw a few others stopping Greene as part of that zone defence. I kind of feel that the commentators were pumping up the lack of influence from Greene but the reality is, the ball hardly went near him. I will probably get push back on this. I feel Newman had a good game and while listening the first time, felt like he would be one of my best. Not near BOG for mine though.

Cripps Sosos Newman imo. Close to BOG. Shut down the most dangerous forward, constantly running, giving options and used it really well. I have been a Newman critic before but he has been great this year.
4. Silvagni was all class. Gathered cleanly, competed in the air continuously, and found smart options. If ever a 19 disposal game could threaten a 41 disposal game for top honours, this was as good a chance as any.
Agree.

5. Docherty stood up. His decision making was decent and his distribution good.
Distribution was pretty messy to be honest. But tough, hard-working and committed all day. Stood up.

6. Ollie Hollands. Couldn't believe he only had 13 disposals. He touches the ball twice as much, but they don't count on the stats sheet. He's our little spot fire put-it-out-er. Gathers and takes hits over the boundary line. Always moving, always slipping into good spots for the outlet ball, always reading the play defensively and putting pressure on. He's a bloody terrier.
Greatpoint, well said. So important not to rate a player if his stat sheet.

7. Acres. 2 good games in a row. He's come as advertised.
Hope he doesn't miss any games. Was worried after his first game but he's been really good since then.

8. TDK offers so much more than Pittonet, although I like the idea of having 2 ruckmen in the side of differing styles. Also gives us the added benefit of a settled Silvagni.
I'm not confident with either solo. But together they've won the ruck for us last two weeks.

9. Cerra. Love how often he is willing to take a hit in and under. He's working his arse off and not doing the flashy stuff.

Agree. Not flashy. But really tough.
10. Fisher just doesn't seem to fit anywhere in the structure, and he's not a great reader of where to run. A couple of good things, but he's playing like a fringe player. Look at Motlop and how hard he works getting up into the midfield and back forward again. I do give him credit for putting in when the game was in peril late in the last quarter.

Until an incredible piece of play in the last quarter, I barely saw him. It stood out because he'd barely done anything before. Someone said he was running hard defensively and not being at the ground, it's impossible to see that kind of thing.

If he holds his spot then he did what the coaches told him to.
11. LOB. All at sea. Defensively reactive and no confidence offensively.
Seems like the kind of player who takes a bit of continuity to get some confidence.

His precision kick to a leading forward late in the game was isolated, but stood out as a reason to persist.
But yeah, defensively a worry.

Just quietly, how good was JSOS today. Our best forward by far.
It is exactly why one is mad to judge much on individual performancess in single games.
Even madder to judge by fantasy football team stats or even match stats. Pretty sure thats all some here look at.
It's about looking at the season or part thereof not one match.
And it's about the whole team/list. They dont all have a great game on the same day. The up and down reality of individual form and thats always been the way.

Winning with that many players down on their usual output (Weiters, TDK, Harry, George etc) means our method is stacking up. Very different game to last week, where most were either good or very good.

Cripps and Newman superhuman. SOS with his most complete game for a while. Acres and Hollands were gutsy, Charlie clutch, Durds gave us a huge spark and Mots just makes good decisions.

The way we’re playing might not always be pretty, but it’s the kind of footy that keeps you in the game and wins finals. Go baggers.

We are playing noticeably differently to the start of last year when we went 8-2.

Back then we were marvelled for our clearance work in particular, with handball releases and getting out the front...but later in the year when pressure in games went up, that style started costing us as we turned it over a lot by hand or got caught holding the ball.

We corrected in the melb and Collingwood game by kicking and taking territory far more which worked for the most part. Those 2 games were finals like intensity.

Seems we've continued that game style this year. Not as pretty without the hand ball chains but it's effective for us and preparing us for finals like you said.

We are 1 of a few teams yet to lose this year so we're doing something right.

Love to see the dismissal of the ludicrous calls I’m reading on Cripps’ impact with his 42 disp and even more on Newman’s magnificent game on Greene. How about being rapt your captain has found some good touch after an ankle concern and his hands were great. Or he led by example at contest with 20 contested. Not perfect but very very good. Don’t get me started on what I’m reading on Newman. Apart from being lost in the zonal set up in transition in the first a couple of times (all our defence were due to pushing up the ground so he wasn’t alone), he played the perfect game on a potential match winning player.

Absolute mint game from him.

To be fair, the only bad takes about Newman have been from Jimmae.

His takes have added 5 pages to this thread alone with people talking about how good Newman was.

Voss gave him special praise in the presser.

You’d think 20 years in the wilderness and almost 30 since a premiership would build a degree of appreciation for the results crafted this year.

This group has gone through some learnings over the past 26 rounds and good teams know how to win any which way, including ugly.

Also, we've gone from losing 2 single digit games end of last year, to drawing round 1, to winning 2 single digit games.

Was Cerra playing down back when Doc went into the middle?? I swear I saw him down back a lot, don’t want to have to watch that game again …. Anyone see who went back as a defender, not just all the wings

Yes, Cez seems to be our mid who we can rotate into defence.

Not just run back like our wings but actually play as a defender for a bit. He even took a kick out.

I've seen him do this a few times...I think he swapped with Doc for a while.

He didn't swear though? He had his arms out and said "hows that not a free kick?".
According to the umpire. Who was miked up and probably G rated the comment for viewers. I suspect there was some vindaloo in Coniglio's mouth when he said it.

4. Silvagni was all class. Gathered cleanly, competed in the air continuously, and found smart options. If ever a 19 disposal game could threaten a 41 disposal game for top honours, this was as good a chance as any.
How good is he when directing traffic in the middle? He might have the body of a school leaver, but he has the football mind of Big Nick.

He could loiter in the centre square more often after centre bounces.

For what it's worth - the Carlton side that has bern roundly criticised for not being able to close out games, and not being able to adapt to opposition tactics, restricted GWS to a single rushed behind in the final 20 minutes of play.

It was a weird, scrappy, ugly game, but our biggest failing (the dreaded late lapse of focus) was seemingly avoided.

Kicked a winning score with no goals from Harry, and only one goal from a non-forward (Doc).

As I said last week, I don't think we can maintain the rage we had against Geelong (incredible physical pressure all game) for a whole season. So winning games where we don't have to take a physical battering is very valuable.

Newman was great. He’s quietly become one we can really rely upon to do a job and bring some grit to our side.

Cripps was superb, a stand out, AND was messy with the ball. He’s not great by foot, these are the facts. Good outweighs the bad by a mile, but you’d hope HE would be more self aware and simplify his disposal decisions to keep more in line with his ability.

It symbolises our whole squad, really. Can win it, compete, do magical things…. but horribly inefficient with the ball. We have to “win” 75% of the game elements to get the scoreboard more than 50% our way. It’s not just forwards missing regulation set shots, it’s midfielders missing forwards on the lead, prolific ball-winners who blaze away long and high when they should lower the eyes, etc. It is pervasively present across our whole team, it’s our very identity. I don’t know if it’s fixable.

According to the umpire. Who was miked up and probably G rated the comment for viewers. I suspect there was some vindaloo in Coniglio's mouth when he said it.
Thats just speculation.

If he's sworn at the umpire then the free kick is there, If he hasn't, then its a ridiculously soft free kick and we've gotten away with one.

Forward 50 entries by the Giants almost as bad as ours.

Hitting one target on the lead isn’t precision- it’s base standard! The multitude of others he sprayed is the issue. His elite kicking is a fallacy, it doesn’t come close to existing.
