I will always love the blues, and next week I'll watch the game and root for the boys but stuff me, I feel like everything goes against us. Umpires giving us the short end of the stick, can't ice a game, paddy Dow has no composure and needs to be dropped.
All this against debatably the worst AFL list ever assembled. Hell even the commentators were rooting for gold coast. Listening to roos and Hudson was tough.

I want no more bloody excuses.. they had more players in this and this range. Simplistically our players skills and game nous is abysmal! Our fitness is now sorted seemingly but every other facet of our game is awful. Gold Coast would’ve lost it if we’d have pinched that...

Bolton stop mollycoddling these ADULT males... no more excuse So!
I’ve taught my 7 yr old daughter how to kick a footy in two days, two 10 minute sessions, 20 ******* minutes!
Why did Dow go inside when he had three free blokes boundary side all calling for it.
We get to move it forward lock it in and win the game!
Ridiculous
I just hope this doesn’t damage Paddy long term.
Anyways, we’re in every game, we are a chance every week, unlike previous years!
Positive vibes Mabo etc
Should have drafted the jousting sticks!

Has to be on the players. No way Bolton would have instructed them to target Gibbons.
Like to know why he was so deep in the forwardline as the ball was delivered long.
Being one of the few crumbers we have one would think he'd be more often than not running towards goals and to the feet of the talls .
Not the other way as it seemed hitting up the ground .
Should not have been in the positions he was in imo .
That comes back to what he's instructed therefore coaching .

Picked the wrong 22 from the available players, and lo and behold we got run off our feet.

This obsession with 4 talls at both ends has to go, because it puts too much pressure on the rest of the team unless enough talls are super athletic, which they just are not in the front half despite 3 being good athletes.

Casboult cannot play in the same side as McKay, Charlie and McGovern. Newman cannot play in the same side as Plowman, Marchbank, Weitering and Jones.

Too many people are dead on their feet at critical moments because of this. Jack, Kennedy and Stocker instead of Casboult, Gibbons and Newman would have completely transformed the look of the side, and instead the match committee shat their dacks instead of trusting solid young players to play a role.

We would have smashed them at the coal face and scorched them on the outside, and instead we chose to turn McKay, Fisher and O'Brien into punching bags. Absolute disgrace.

100%, spot on, absolutely correct.

MC/coaching group have got it wrong every week. This week there are no excuses with the players available. If I see Zac Fisher within 2 metres of a stoppage I will go into SVT.

I think Cas was brought in to chop out Lobbe in the Ruck who cant do it himself - simply not good enough

Then which out out of Charlie,Gov or Harry makes way?
Casboult, and McKay can take those 20 minutes. This is extremely manageable with JSOS, Kennedy and Cripps in the side.

Could we try gibbons as a midfielder or if there’s no spot... just don’t play him. He’s a depth player not a small forward. He’s played out of position every week.
Can’t help but think JSOS would do a better job at the moment

Cant see it happening JSOS's direct competition would be Gov and Gov has him well and truly covered

Ok I have taken 30 minutes to reflect and consider before posting my thoughts. Overall the quality of that game was poor. Very much two bottom four sides, which is not unexpected (but disappointing at this stage of the rebuild).

Positives - Jones is in AA form. He was a star. Weitering was also excellent. We have two AA quality defenders that hopefully we get at least 5 years out of as a pair. We need to build around that. Cripps is obviously a star and Walsh is showing he is 90% likely to be. So that means we have two A grade mids.

Negatives - in my view we lost it at the selection table. Metricon is a big ground and we were far too tall. Our delivery into forward 50, choice of target when so tall and not using the corridor continues to baffle me.

We are all unhappy. What is the path forward? It is time to start asking questions and gathering evidence, but it is critical not to overreact.

Coaching - you don't sack a coach after 4 losses. At worst, Bolton has until mid season break (and likely end of season). But the Board needs to start thinking now about what coaches are available at year's end. We clearly need to get much better assistant coaches, and we may need to also be thinking of a new head coach (still too early to make that call IMHO - though it is leaning that way). If we go into mid season 2-9 or worse, then I think you need to show Bolton the door just to clear the air and give a temporary coach a chance to change things up, try new players etc. I would give Teague that role (if it comes to it) - he may surprise people. Barker must go - great guy but has been terrible everywhere he goes. But before any of that - we have at least 7 games before a decision is made. The President should call Bolton in tomorrow and ask what, if anything, he needs or is concerned about. Give him the opportunity to turn this around. If he doesn't, then the axe falls.

Drafting/List Management - hard to tell if our drafting has been bad or if it is coaching. I was very happy with Weitering, McKay and Curnow. Silvagni can select talls. Not sure if he is good at selecting smalls? Paddy Dow does not look like a great pick. I wanted Cerra at the time. Too early to tell but. I have great concerns over SPS - he does not get involved enough. Florent and Berry were close picks that have performed better, but that is crystal balling. My biggest concern is Lochie O'Brien - to me he was a top 30+ pick and lacks the AFL nous. I think our weakness here though may not be drafting, but failing to bring in some decent mature players (like the GC has done). We have certainly wasted a number of list spots in the last 2-3 years.

Overall - we need to get around the Club and support them. Give them at least half the season before we start demanding the axe falls. Also don't go hard on young guys like Dow or LOB, confidence is key at that age. Though I would be making players do a proper VFL apprenticeship in the role they will fill in seniors. All in all a very sad day.

Can your daughter run through the middle?

Okay folks, I have officially #ECO.

But prior to emotionally checking out, my heart ached for Brendon Bolton, I just wanted to give him a cuddle.

But yes, being #ECO is some comfort.

Paddy Cripps, they will make movies about this boy.

Weak draft a possibility?

Whatever it is we've now got a hole in the best 22 and he's not alone.
Looking like a weak draft for sure and hindsight is a wonderful thing but.....my first impression of O’Brien was “not a natural looking footballer” and with Dow it was immediately his disposal.
Gotta just keep persisting and the wins will come.

No individual is greater than the club.

Who are the players in our current best 22 given best opportunity for success by being played in appropriate positions and surrounded by support players who help them rather than just get in the way?
i asked first.;)
if u think the list isn't at least 50% of the issue that's fine. I disagree.

Coming on here today all i could see was Bolton hate but just as much criticism has to be directed at the list balance. If we have any injuries are cooked.

Frankly, I have concerns about Bolts as well but I just don't see how he can take 100% of the blame.

Clearly issues with coaching and gameplan.

Footy department review at the end of the season if this continues.

This is apparently negative talk.
good to see you egg-shelling rather than your usual ranting - good boy.......

Haha sorry Thy, love your posts but if you had as many bad years with a partner we'd all be divorced. Let em vent
not sure following a football team has anything to do with personal relationships but ok.........

Hard to pin point what exactly the problem is but I think it really is predominantly the confidence of our players.

With each loss we have played a less dynamic and overall worse game the following week.

Our players have no idea when to pull the trigger and when to play the percentages - what results is highly dysfunctional clumsy footy.

Apart from the selections this week (which is only result of the injuries of Kruezer, TDK and Phillips) it's all mindset for mine. Out of the 22 out there each week it only looks like Cripps, Jones, Weitering and Walsh go out there with an expectation to win and it shows.
