Reasons we will beat Hawthorn

We can't win this because Buddy is too good. Much like the way we couldn't win the 98 grand final because Carey was too good.

If you believe we are a one man show you are in for a shock. Buddy is good but so is
Hodge

If we lose this will be the first thread visited by hawks fans. It's asking for trouble.

I'd like to think most supporters are above that. Then again, this is Big Footy.

Aside from the match-specific analysis in this thread, I was there in 1997 when you rolled St Kilda who, from memory, may have been the shortest priced premiership favourites in history to that point. I was there at the Carlton - Essendon prelim too. The historical precedent for favourites as short as Hawthorn in finals does not bode all that well for us ahead of Saturday. Naturally, I'd like to think that this is irrelevant and we are a professional outfit that will be unaffected by all the media coverage, but I do think the game will be close and I sincerely hope the sentiments of a handful of overconfident Hawthorn supporters on this forum are not shared by those within the footy club.

In any event - good luck and, if nothing else, let's hope there aren't any (more) injuries.

nobody believes that mate. how about you read the OP and get a clue?

EVERYONE thinks Hawthorn will win. The fact you still feel the need to pile it on so thick should be embarrassing.

Seriously dude, think about it. Did anyone believe North were a one man team in 98? McKernan Archer Scholl Bell Pike Pickett Harvey ring a bell? Hawks are the best side in the comp. This thread is just trying to get positive. If it bleeds we can kill it. The ruck and your short defence your big weaknesses. Unfortuantely your multiple strenghts probably make that irrelevant!

Read the OP before posting this crap mate. Besides Puopolo, Smith, Schoenmakers, Stratton and Savage? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

How do you guys feel about Petrenko playing. Dislocated shoulders are notrious for popping out again if the ligaments and tendons have not healed correctly. Does he play your forward "tag" role usually?

What's the hot tip re: Jenkins?? I (like many I guess) can see this being a potentially match winning move. Not saying Jenins for Tippet, but going the three talls. It's not even about trying to stretch Hawthornes defence, but hedge our betts incase Tippet continues his slump, might make it difficult for Gibson to run off of him all day.

I would bring Johncock back into defence to perhaps link up to Riley nicely. Stiffy brings a hard ground level intensity that could be vital to our makeshift defence. Hes worked back there with the best, Bassett & Rutten and bocky so just has a good defensive understanding.

Plus, Jenkins is just a natural athlete that is instinctive. He may be raw, but maybe that's what we need, a bit of an x factor up forward. Keep the Nutter up there ;) he's due to bring a bit of havok back :)

Jared P is a big worry for me, I think Sandos going to play him, and in the heat of this game he might just break early. I don't know who can replace him though??? Aiden Riley??? If he is after a chance to prove himself this will be it, just can't see him bringing the offensive pressure of ptrenko :( You know, I think Jared is irreplaceable for the role he plays ;)

SO PUMPED for this game now!!! Crows have the opportunity here to prove the soft draw, not worthy rubbish wrong.

I sincerely expect them to go really closely with the Hawks all day long.
History shows the Crows to be the perfect team for Saturday's challenge, 97 in particular, but then the first final defeat v Melbourne in 98, followed by the impossible Kangaroos GF win.

The Crows play St Kilda GF 10 times they are lucky to sneak 1 win
Crows play Kangaroos game (98gf) 10 times they win one of them ;)

We are well within our rights to feel positive and have a not unrealistic sense of confidence heading into this game.
It's ALL about the HAWKS this Saturday, and that's just perfect for us, our young list just don't know enough to realise there's no way we should win....

Crows by 6 watch for Rory to have a day out and Tex to have Alistair Clarkson fist deep in plaster board ;)

Shouldn't play.

His biggest strength is his attack on the man/ball and his tackling.

We've already got Porps who can't tackle, but he brings a lot of other things to the table; Pets doesn't.

Personally I don't think he should play. I feel for the guy but the risk of it popping out is too great for the reward.

I will revisit this post on Saurday night. Absolutely reams us every time

As I think has already been said in here, he's just a shit, whistle happy, attention whore of an umpire. Probably one of those guys who every supporter thinks reams his or her club.

Too many heroes looking to make a name for themself this week.

I hope...

Well, to address the OP, the good thing for us is that this game should, like most at the top level, be played above the shoulders. So here we can get right back on even footing.

The media and everyone are doing their bit by heaping on the pressure and expectation, we just need one high profile person to mention "visualising what it would be like if they lost" and we couldnt ask for anymore.

They are a confidence team and some of their key and not so key players can also go into their shell if things dont go how they'd like. Rioli can go right off the boil and did thru the season a couple of times, doesnt like extremely tight checking, will need hawthorn's mids to be on top so that they'll get enough ball that he'll still get it on weight of numbers. Franklin too, if he misses shots on goal and isn't getting good supply can sometimes just stay right out of the game. Schoenmakers is skittish under pressure. The worst one of all though and I havent seen this for a long time, is Gibson. If you want a good demo of him crapin his dacks and fumbling look back to round 1 last year, pretty sure walker was on him that day as well, walker was full of lip and gibson started down and stayed down.

Crowd can make things better and worse for hawks. On one hand if things go right for them early, crowd will get involved and all the above disappears and away they go. On the otherhand, if things go wrong the quiet crowd or groaning crowd will play on their mind even more, will go from bad to worse. Hawthorn absolutely need a good start, even more than us.

The reasons we will win. The stars have aligned for us. Our loss to Sydney in week 1 was good for two reasons.

1) We now play an important cut throat final, under the pump - AWAY FROM HOME. To me this is a good thing. Having the home crowd is usually an advantage, but sometimes the nerves of the crowd can be felt by the players. I think that's part of the reason the yips went through the whole team against the Swans. Away from home you have nothing to lose. We can also use their crowd against them, if we can get on top and silence them, then the pressure will be compounded on them.

2) We avoid the Pies. I know that we are better than them. But they have the wood on us, especially in recent finals. We dont want to be fighting inner demons on the day of our Prelim final. Leave them to the bloods to mop up for us, which I hope happens either way.

I'm not so sure it will be as lopsided as people think. We lost to a Sydney side which choked us down and if we kicked straight it would have been a 2 goal loss. We played a freo side who knocked off Geelong at their home ground and came from behind to win it and we really have taken a lot of pressure off us with a good win.

I still think we need hawthorn to kick awfully and turn over a few easy goals our way but its not impossible!

This isn't the view shared by AFL central though, I think the preview was more about buddy's nicknames than the actual game.

Cringeworthy ugh
