I'm going to get absolutely shot down for this but I'm going to say it anyway...
I'm really happy we won but at the same time .. I kind of wish we didn't. We 're on track to finish 9-12th. Imagine if we finished bottom 5-6. This draft is going to be really good and we picked up another gun who will be best 22 like cox and perkins.
It was a great win but in the grand scheme of things i would of rather we lost the game. These wins could cost us the next Judd.

I understand that but winning games is great for building a strong culture

and losing games is terrible for morale. Being able to belt out the team song after the game is part of the cultural rebuild. Re next year's draft, a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the draft.

We are Essendon not Carlton or Melbourne... Tell me you weren't watching last night and not screaming your lungs out when we came back ??
If we want to keep Merrett these are the type of wins that will make it hard for him to leave, also it would have been shattering to lose another game that we should have won ?

Dodoro has shown he can find guns with later picks. Merrett and Ridley were picks in the 20s and Jones was 30.

And losing games could cost us Merrett and Stringer

Finishing 10th gives us pick 8 no? We got Cox at 8. Now he's probably top 3. So hypothetically we finish 16th and lose Merrett then we are in a world of pain. We draft a kid at 3 and we get Plowman or Matheson. And we don't have the belief as a team the was built last night. Hmmmmm

If we finish 12, that is still bottom 6.

Historically speaking, the difference between pick 5-6 is not all that much different to 9-10 in terms of players selecting in those spots. Cox (pick 8), Perkins (9) and Jones (31) go alright for non-top 5 picks
Jarrad Grant was taken pick 5 in 2007, Dangerfield was pick 10
In 2017, Paddy Dow was pick 3 and Aaron Naughton was pick 9.

I would rather instill a winning, professional culture then tank for picks. Ask Carlton, and formerly Melbourne how that went.

Also, do you think we are a better chance of keeping Zerrett if we are a bottom 4 team, or knocking on the door of the 8 while full to the brim with young talent?

Technically bottom 7 as there’s 6 from 13-18 but agree with everything else.

Yes, I’m fun at parties

Was at the game, huge win

Laverde was enormous on Darling

Parish again brilliant in the middle, decision making and disposal very good

Zerretts ability to hit targets in the wet that no one else could was vital

Heppell very good behind the ball, brought some important balls to ground and also some marks going back into some important holes

Langford was good

Phillips competed really well in the ruck

Our forwards were really good, Stringer, Tippa, Harry J, Hooker competed very well got the pill to ground, snelling involved and pressure brilliant

Ridleys closing is always great but evident live, his spoils and ability to close down distance on L.Ryan and come off and spoil balls that wern't in our favour to a genuine 50/50 dispute

Wins in the West against a side that are as solid as West Coast are build belief that the club is going places.

Losing games for a draft pick is a Carlton mentality that has got them nowhere. We are not like that.

I can understand why you might think this but look at it this way. Of the teams to have played this weekend, we're the third most inexperienced. Our side included nine first round picks, most of whom are young enough and we have Francis, Caldwell, Shiel, Draper to come back in, with Reid down the track hopefully.

We have plenty of talent on the list already, and while we certainly need more, this is the first time in a long time that it feels like we have a good understanding of how to best use some of our talent.

Melbourne, Carlton tanked in the late 2000s. Melbourne are only just now figuring things out. It doesn't help.

I hope you stuck it up some Eagle supporters - they are generally the worst

can I highlight Brad Sheppard. With 4 mins to go when WCE could easily still win it. Walla takes a great lead up mark near the boundary 70m out, has-been Brad has a nap on the ground as Walla casually walks back on the mark then jogs off the mark for the delivery to Waterman for the sealer.

I saw so many weak and lazy front-runner efforts by WCE last night. Now known as the flat and dry track bullies!!

Oh and Liam Ryan, what a disgraceful showing in the most important round for you mate. Suspend the prick for a week for umpire, player and crowd abuse.

They are horrid. I was celebrating pretty hard.

Even though they still had one extra free kick the fans thought they got done over by the umps. One club that cant complain about the umpiring is definitely eagle fans

You could look at it that way but we benefited from last year's disrupted season, because based on current form both Perkins and Cox should have been top 5 picks.

Also full credit to Truck and coaching group for believing in these guys and playing them every week — that helps in making them look like top 5 picks.

We have not been good at developing players for a long time — this year has been a real change.

I’ve hardly seen any vision from the game yet...did we do plenty of jacket/scarf waving to send the Eagles fans in their way??

You can see that with Jones, he looked distressed after round 1 but has started to impose himself on contests and is getting more involved.
