If ever there was a week to think 'out of the square' a bit, this was it.
We are playing a severely handicapped team that realistically shouldn't be better than us and we are sitting in 3rd. place, undefeated. Knowing that Walsh, Kennedy and Martin will be available next week, it was the perfect opportunity to blood others. Doesn't have to be Dow, but give Cincotta or Kemp a taste of senior football.
If there was ever a game we'd lose over the past 10 years this is also it.

Cowan earned his spot over the pre-season.
Why should he be dropped after 3 weeks to blood Cincotta or Kemp?

Edit: Also, Honey is in for his 12th game.

Thanks. Saw the emergencies in the app notification.
My first glimpse of the team was on the AFL website and they only said Honey in. No mention of LOB being elevated from the sub role and no emergencies listed.

It's a weird (and stupid) thing, where a sub is 'in' once they're subbed into the game. If they're going to be sub again the next week then they're 'out'.
Dumb and the AFL should fix it to a named 23, not 22 + 4.

No, no it’s not. Playing weaker sides, we should be more adventurous in selection & game style. We should be asking questions & driving standards not maintaining a status quo that’s proven not to be good enough when it counts
We aren't the reigning premiers, or a perennial finals side. We just need to be banking wins, regardless of the opposition.

It’s an interesting one, on one hand, Josh doesn’t deserve to be picked off of a 5 disposal and no score game in the VFL.

On the other, we have no real other options to replace Owies (suggests that Martin would’ve been a straight in this week if fit).

However, glass half full mindset has me knowing that Honey is more suited to the main team and plays ok to well whenever he’s called up.

Hoping to see LOB have a blinder under the roof kicking to Charlie and Harry.

This is meaningless double talk. What does any of it mean? Are we not picking the best side? You think we are so good we can experiment against the 'weaker' sides in a very even comp? What does "asking questions" mean? How do you know we aren't doing this? Who is not driving standards - where is your evidence there? How on earth was anything not being good enough "proven" last year? The team is still improving and developing and learning.

We could possibly be as high as 1st after this weekend but some people are never happy.

You're also not the target audience so criticising it is rather petty considering the cause.
Who is the target audience?
8 year old kids don't get that much pocket money!
It is an ugly jumper.
If they want to raise maximum $ it should look awesome.
As it stands, it is a cartoonist 'super roo' not sure it is all that appealing except for the 3 junior roos supporters.

To be fair, earned his spot as our 24th man which is why he was taken off at half time to be our emergency.

You would obviously preferred him to star, but he's our next man up in the forwardline. And him getting games should be good for us long-term.

It doesn't have to Cowan, could be Fish, Ed, it is just a rare opportunity to still win, but reward other players on our list that are actually 'in good form'.
Honey wasn't one of them, but still hope he goes well.
The draw with Richmond also removes the pressure to constantly focus on building percentage over developing players.
Relax fans, we'll win this comfortably.

I am actually reading this correctly, we should be blooding other players while playing a lesser opponent?

We aren't in rebuild mode, trying to get games into every player to determine what we need moving forward

We are looking for wins, while trying to improve areas of need and build continuity

Two men enter two men leave…
Sub from the emergencies
O’Brien elevated from last week’s sub

And building our cohesion and structures
Yep, as steady a best 22/23 as we possibly can.
That's one of the ways the Lions leapfrogged us a few years back.
They were losing, but being reasonably competitive most weeks, while playing a young side with a consistent core group. 17-18 players all playing 17-18 games together for a couple years straight. Our injuries prevented us from doing the same, but I think we would've been in a similar position if we'd remained healthy.

We're already missing 2 of our best mids.
And you're thinking very short-term about form. We've come off 4 months of pre-season for players to earn their spot. And you want to add in one or 2 backmen, who aren't currently in our best back 7, just because you think it's an easy kill?

You try those things in Round 17 when you've got tired players and have already qualified for finals, not in Round 4!

No way would Cowan be dropped, hes doing a terrific job
Fisher was actually pretty good last week also. Played the loose man and cleaned up in defence all day.
As to form in the vfl, I reckon thats not really the best guide.
It's the training ground that counts when a team is picked.

Personally keen to see Honey in action.
Circumstances see him in the team this week and he’d be well aware he has to grab his chance while he can.
O’Brien likewise would need to be BOG this week with Acres returning for Adelaide.
If Dow doesn’t get the vest this week, he may as well clean out his locker and head down to Moorabbin and start getting to know his new teammates …
