They where shocking in the 80’s
were a small club back then....to be fair we CFC had all the opportunities and yes we took them

That is why saints try and thrash us these days of every opportunity

probably dont want to go there....[right now we are struggling to shape a young list doing an elite program and producing equivalent results]

Whose accepting mediocrity? Some people really need to get over themselves.

20 years?
1999 we made the GF (knocking off the Dopers).
2000 we finished the home & away season in 2nd place.
2001 we finished 5th, beating both of the eventual grand finalists along the way (smashed the Lions by 12 goals)
2002-2008 not good
2009-2011 finals, including beating the Dopers in the EF & losing to the Eagles by less than a kick at Subiaco
2012 in the running for finals for much of the season, but ultimately finished 10th in a season ravaged by injuries (including a doped up Lonergan destroying Carrots' shoulder)
2013 finals, including a win over the Tiggies in the EF
2014-2018 not good

I've seen reference made to 20 years of being awful a number of times on here, but that is just hyperbole.

:thumbsu:

typo on dows age...should be 19
Looking at our list..........and its not too bad
WHAT IS GOING ON ?

Thanks. Carried over from last week. May have mucked that one up all year.

Fremantle St Kilda and Gold Coast with lists not better than ours yet we are winless
Frustrated would luv to read the papers one Monday when we have won a couple on the trot and the media starts talking us up
Sick of winless starts and we have a dangerous 3 weeks coming up
Lose to the bulldogs and we could be 0-7
Let’s hope we win and build some momentum

All we Need is Mitch Robinson to be selected.

Bomb it long.

Games ours!!

Jokes aside i think we do need to be doing it more often.

Curnow, McKay and McGovern are all extremely dangerous in the air and difficult match ups for any defence.
Felt that we weren't doing them any favours in the GC game by going slow, not kicking to their advantage, and often going wide.

Get the ball moving quick and to their advantage near the top of the goalsquare as much as possible and i can them either marking it, opposition defenders giving away free kicks, or the ball coming to ground setting up crumbing opportunities. We didn't put GC's defenders under enough pressure.

Reckon our list has more upside than theirs, but we have 2 big holes in our current best 22 team...we need a mature gun mid (eg Sheil) and at least one good small forward to take us to the next level of actually winning a decent amount of games.

Our midfield is way too young and inexperienced right now to compete against mature, big bodied midfields...and we're missing out on lots of goal-scoring opportunities with our lack of dangerous small forwards.

Agree what I would not give for a young Eddie Betts with the talls we have

Comprehension is not your strong suit, is it?

20 years covers completed seasons from 1999-2018 (I'm happy to take it from 2000 if it suits your agenda better), but given you didn't comprehend my post I will spell it out for you. We have not been the "butt of jokes for 20 years", as stated by the poster I was responding to. There have been significant periods since 2002 when we rightfully should have been, but during the period 2009-2013 there was no reason why we would have been. More accurately Premiershipmond was the butt of many jokes prior to their 2017 premiership & Melbourne, during their horrific era of no finals appearances from 2007-2017 were also fair game during this time, not to mention the Saints for their failure to crack a premiership since 1966.

I find it interesting that certain Carlton supporting posters seem to feel the need to proclaim that we have been the butt of jokes for (x) number of years or other negative statements because apparently the rest of us need to be reminded that we have had a long period of time without the ultimate success.

Many of us choose not to listen to the external noise because it will only do your head in. You should give it a try.

Comprehension ? Pretty sure no one put in the proviso of "completed" - its the 20th season since 2000 in 2019. That is comprehension.

Yeah ignorance is bliss - others choose to focus on reality.

Carlton are lambasted from pillar to post across the entire AFL - we are the joke of the entire community. Its hard, its not nice, its difficult - but its true.

Clearly you aren't aware of Hawthorn's 6 wooden spoons & 6 second bottom placings in the 2 decades from 1925-1944. They also finished 3rd bottom on 4 occasions & did not participate in any finals series during this period. They also only recorded 78 wins over these 2 decades whereas over the last 2 decades we have won 166 games. Now these are stone cold facts.

I'm happy to do similar exercises for North Melbourne, St Kilda, South Melbourne, even Fitzroy if you so desire.

Wait - so you are comparing us to a team from before the second world war, which had just entered the competition almost 30 years after everyone else, and saying "see - we aren't the worst, there was this one team once which had just entered the competition and they were worse, so we aren't bad and its just HYPERBOLE !"

Incredible stuff.

I'm happy to do similar exercises for North Melbourne, St Kilda, South Melbourne, even Fitzroy if you so desire.

Please do. It's really set the record straight that we aren't that bad since there was one team, which had a worse run almost a hundred years ago. Uplifting. If you can find another run worse than ours to lift us into third or even fourth worst run in AFL history that will really prove your point that its just "hyperbole" that we are awful.

Bang up job.

Other supports have every single right to have a go at Carlton, and the suggestion that the last 20 years has been awful is 100% correct.

Really hope the boys can win this - the issue is 4 quarters of football. Its been our down fall in every game this year.

If we an play 4 quarters - we win. Most importantly a big start, if we can jump them then that will set the tone.

Reckon they will be massively fired up, the last few rounds will be stinging, particularly last week, and Cripps has been right into them - best captain since Sticks Kernahan.

Murphy, Seton, Fisher, Curnow, Gibbons, Polson is an decent array of small forwards - with Gov, Kruze , McKay and Curnow rotating we have on paper an excellent forward line.

Silvagnis position and role will be telling.

The turnovers of the last few weeks, particularly last week, killed us - easily cost us the game from just one or two small errors. These are confidence issues which come from the pressure of losing.

If we win this week we may well shake those cobwebs off - and really unleash a decent run.

This is a big game and the boys will come to play no matter what.

Absolutely no chance of a win on our current comparative form - but think we may very well sneak a win here.

Bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuues !!

...

EDIT :

No Setters. No Kennedy. Ugh. We need Cuningham and Picket back yesterday.

Yes its all about the midfield

i dont know why Bolton didnt leave Ed and Murph planted firmly in the middle with Cripps as usual, dow, walsh etc take wings

maybe we are tanking again?

:rolleyes:Help me get motivated

Cripps to get first use of the ball in the 6-6-6 format. Undersized Dogs defence to leak a few goals from quick centre clearances.

Dogs like the quick in close handball releases. Kreuzer is brilliant at applying pressure and getting a hand in to turn the ball over.

Walsh is as good as any of the Dogs runners and both he and Samo do great work in traffic and under pressure.

Naughton is the most dangerous Dog up forward. Weitering can take him deep and Marchbank up the ground.

Caleb Daniel has been in defence for the Dogs a lot of late. If we insist on targeting Gibbons, he finally has a decent matchup.

Finally 4 games, no thrashings. We are in every game.

Tanking for Adelaide's pick?
