Unpopular opinion... I don't want us to drop Casboult or Newnes or Gibbons or Cottrell. I just want one change - Honey for Betts. (why is everyone bringing in JSOS? Not even a single week in the 2s?)

I am just as disappointed as everyone else, but I don't actually think we played that bad. A shocking 2nd quarter and yet another 5 goal swing hurt us, but we did really well everywhere else.

My only problem is us playing SPS, Stocker and even Newnes in defence, maybe we need to use Williams on a HBF in their place. I'd also rotate Cunners, Gibbons, Fog and Murph regularly throughout the wing and on-ball.

My rd 7 side:

FB - Plowman, Jones, Docherty

HB - Saad, Weitering, Williams

M - Cottrell, Walsh, Newnes

HF - Gibbons, Casboult, Fogarty

FF - Murphy, McKay, Cuningham

FOL - Pittonet, E. Curnow, Cripps

I/C - Petrevski-Seton, Stocker, McGovern, Honey

SUB - Dow

Out: Newnes, Cottrell, Casboult (23rd man), Betts, Kennedy
In: Ramsay, Silvagni, Dow, Owies

FB:
Docherty - Jones - McGovern
HB: Williams - Weitering - Saad
C: Cuningham - Dow - Murphy
HF: Fogarty - Silvagni - SPS
FF: Gibbons - McKay - Owies

R:
Pittonet - Cripps - Walsh

Int: Ramsay, E.Curnow, Stocker, Plowman

23rd Man - Levi Casboult

Dow - Just put him in the guts and say go play free like you did in the 2's (Better developing in the 1's instead of the 2's)
Silvagni - If fit no brainer
Owies - How many goals do you need to kick to get an opportunity
Ramsey - Deserves a crack, been solid for a month.

Williams - Needs to go back (experiment over) part time mid only, pushes Plowman to the bench as 7th defender.
McGovern - 2nd ruck and 3rd tall defender, his a better defender than forward
Stocker - Teague fu** your data, just play him through the middle where he belongs
stocker is not ready for seniors. he is way too slow and it wont matter which position he plays in his lack of speed will be exposed. they need to identify his improvement areas and he needs to focus on these in the reserves.

Dow should never be sub. Kennedy is our ideal sub.

Needs to play games of football at reserves level, and needs to be as far away from John Barker as possible. Full games of VFL football under the tutelage of Power and O'Keefe, learning to play the game again after being almost broken, that's what he needs.

Agree with Honey for Betts.

JSOS brings pressure & multiple efforts that is failed to be brought by others in the squad. If fit, needs to play for that aspect alone.
A sad indictment on our application across the board bar a few.

Betts is finished and we can't keep playing him, love his effort however this is AFL and you need to be bringing in results. It's time to retire. Who do we play instead, take your pick. Honey, Philp, Durdin, Carroll, Ramsay, Owies etc. This spot needs to be used as a development spot for an in form attacking small player. At least while Fisher and Martin are out.

Casboult, any forward who can't apply pressure is a problem and he gives us nothing in this area. His average of under a goal a game and around 7 hitouts doesn't cut it or make up for what he's lacking. TDK is the obvious inclusion here but it will be some time before he's fit enough.

Murphy is playing ok football however we seem to have forgotten we are rebuilding. I think Murphy needs to go into the midfield more and earn his keep. When a younger player steps up that little bit more then we move him on.

Stocker, you leave him in the team and you give him time as an onballer. I'd like to see him tagging, he's a big strong player who when he's confident is hard at it. We need to find a way to make him fit into this side and develop him from there on.

Ramsay is another we need to bring in and make work, see if he can play wing.

I'd just love to see our coach change his idea on young players and bring one in with a role that lets them just hunt the footy. No defensive crap and playing behind the senior players. Make the senior players support the young ones because they seem to have no idea.

Tactically, we do well with our inside 50's so why do we keep losing? Well the quality of our inside 50's is the issue, bomb it long doesn't work and the issue with congestion in our forward line is because we don't press up and defend hard enough and drag the opposition defenders far enough from home. The good sides do this well and run hard the other way going forward. IMO if we defended harder as a team we could open the other end of the ground up better. Our poor kicking and lack of hard running isn't helping but tactically we need to look at this.

As for sub, Betts should be sub, young players playing for their career and playing to get better must never be sub.

Of course JSOS is best 22, but wouldn't you rather he spends a week in the 2s after he overcomes his injury? He isn't in my eyes a walk-in start.

Just curious, what makes you say that?

Sort of explained why Dow shouldn't be sub. Kennedy is a good sub choice because he is 24, has no development remaining, is versatile enough to cover many positions and his lack of speed is not an issue deep into games as a fresh player.

Just watched the first qtr of the vfl and I will admit I’m a believer in Dow. The first qtr in the vfl showed why we drafted him he spreads well from the centre bounce and his kick off the side of the boot (was purposely kicked off the side) shows he does have footy smarts. Whether they decide he plays this week or needs more time in the twos they need to play him at centre bounces.

Out: Gibbons, Cottrell
In: Setterfield, Ramsay

Will be nice to start getting some players back from injury soon hopefully. Would prefer to see Setters have more game time in reserves but we're limited for options.

Kennedy as sub is ideal, as he’s never really going to improve so playing him in the 2s doesn’t really matter. So he can be what he is, handy backup.

If he’s right to go, select him. What he brings is lacking from others, which improves us overall.
His football has much improvement left for a walk-up start but repeat effort/scrapping is in our top few.

I’d actually like to see our side play a few weeks without Cripps, I think we have created a way of playing and utilising other mids as a way to compensate for his short comings.

We rotate way too few through the middle, and we keep others out the middle because Cripps can’t do anything else.

We seem too Cripps centric still, lots of our younger players especially seem to just randomly look for him when he isn’t the best option.

I feel our other mids need to be beast two way runners like Walsh and Ed to compensate the fact Cripps isn’t.

In saying all this I’m fairly sure Crippa is playing not 100%. I do worry though the crash and bash style he’s played may of caught up with him as we all feared it would.

Still has a habit of ball-watching too much in my opinion. Tell him, "see ball, get ball" at every opportunity.

I bet your one of those clueless people that said not to take players like worpel and Daniel in the draft yrs to
I had both them way higher than 45 because they both found the footy and thats what stocker does
I would play him and other players like honey and Ramsay for the rest of the yr

Watching parish play like this today gives me hope for dow and obrien. Really wasted a year of development on them during covid. Fingers crossed they can show growth in the next 12 months
