I bet your one of those clueless people that said not to take players like worpel and Daniel in the draft yrs to
I had both them way higher than 45 because they both found the footy and thats what stocker does
I would play him and other players like honey and Ramsay for the rest of the yr
He is clearly not ready for seniors. Is too slow. Just needs more time in ressies. Nothing wrong with that is there?

Also has nothing to do with worpel etc. If he becomes half the player worpel is I’ll be very happy.

We aint playing finals so may as well put games into some players like stocker

Exactly what I thought after watching their game. They’re going to be way too quick, especially when we turn the ball over and they counter attack.

At least I can see it coming a mile away so won’t be too irate next weekend...

I'm not quite as over the line as yourself, but certainly, would not want to be losing next week and heading into the WBD and MEL at 2-5.

Could quickly come out the other side in serious internal and external turmoil at 2-7. Nasty.

Agree with that but probably best to play him in his natural position. Which seems to be midfield. Or even further up the ground. Putting a player prematurely in defence can really knock the confidence out of them. I’m wondering how he feels after kicking that own goal.

The biggest difference is they’re committed to the contest for four quarters. We are a bunch of welterweights.

Out: Gibbons, Cottrell
In: Setterfield, Ramsay

Will be nice to start getting some players back from injury soon hopefully. Would prefer to see Setters have more game time in reserves but we're limited for options.

Teague ?

Main thing is none of the old unaccountable players delivering next to zero are kept in the side while young kids get thrown out - lovin it !

Betts is finished and we can't keep playing him, love his effort however this is AFL and you need to be bringing in results. It's time to retire. Who do we play instead, take your pick. Honey, Philp, Durdin, Carroll, Ramsay, Owies etc. This spot needs to be used as a development spot for an in form attacking small player. At least while Fisher and Martin are out.

Casboult, any forward who can't apply pressure is a problem and he gives us nothing in this area. His average of under a goal a game and around 7 hitouts doesn't cut it or make up for what he's lacking. TDK is the obvious inclusion here but it will be some time before he's fit enough.

Murphy is playing ok football however we seem to have forgotten we are rebuilding. I think Murphy needs to go into the midfield more and earn his keep. When a younger player steps up that little bit more then we move him on.

Stocker, you leave him in the team and you give him time as an onballer. I'd like to see him tagging, he's a big strong player who when he's confident is hard at it. We need to find a way to make him fit into this side and develop him from there on.

Ramsay is another we need to bring in and make work, see if he can play wing.

I'd just love to see our coach change his idea on young players and bring one in with a role that lets them just hunt the footy. No defensive crap and playing behind the senior players. Make the senior players support the young ones because they seem to have no idea.

Tactically, we do well with our inside 50's so why do we keep losing? Well the quality of our inside 50's is the issue, bomb it long doesn't work and the issue with congestion in our forward line is because we don't press up and defend hard enough and drag the opposition defenders far enough from home. The good sides do this well and run hard the other way going forward. IMO if we defended harder as a team we could open the other end of the ground up better. Our poor kicking and lack of hard running isn't helping but tactically we need to look at this.

As for sub, Betts should be sub, young players playing for their career and playing to get better must never be sub.

This is a great post and sums up a fair bit of my views on the same subjects. Just on the forward line - last week against Port we locked it in the forward line and they simply could not extract it for an entire quarter. They kicked one goal zip and we kicked an impressive 3.6 - absolutely mental how bad we were at kicking for goals.

I have literally zero doubt if we had Honey, Philp, Durdin, Carroll, Ramsay, Owies, Cuningham etc - (or any of our normal forwards Fisher, JSOS, Martin) then we would have kicked 3-4 more goals.

Our press and pressure was immense. Really impressive and they simply could not get out (once) - but Eddie and Murphy as our selected specialist small forwards utterly failed in their roles.

It was last week and this week that McGovern and Casboult were snapping around their bodies for goals on behalf of Betts who literally handed it off to them from closer in....

Agree no way will defeat Bombers they’re ruing high after a win over the Pies. There’ll be pain until at least Rd10 at least. We need our best personal to impact.

While they were good today, I don't quite see why everyone is being so pessimistic about our chances against them next week, they weren't world beaters. Hell, even that tragic forward line of the Pies did ok against their backline.

Think Pittonet will do well in the ruck duals and I especially think Harry will have another field day.

Pretty much everyone in the AFL community, past players, commentators, opposition supporters and even players, along with almost total unison on this board - the one thing everyone agrees with is Teagues absolute main failure is bringing in kids who have smashed it, absolutely BLITZED in the VFL to then play them out of position, deny them access to the ball, cripple them with demands on proving themselves "defensively" and then dropping them immediately even though there are plenty of others who did worse.

And you come in - and do exactly what everyone, literally everyone, is condemning Teague for.

"Stocker - dont worry about your free running game where you were doing 50 meter bombs to advantage breaking the game wide open with 38 possessions, half a dozen inside 50's - can you go one on one with that half back pocket guy and just nullify his game - don't worry about touching it - well leave that to the older guys"

"Stocker looks like you had a quiet game - back tot he ressies mate"

It really is insanity what is going on. Are you David Teague ???

Maybe we should ask some of the board members who have overseen the debacle over the last five years (when we supposed to finally get things right). Judd is the director of football and list management. Maybe he or the president should enlighten us about the direction of the club in the coming days.

So much focus on Loguidice and Teague - but you are dead right - way to many "footy champs" in our executive and board level.

We need to fill it with people who know their job - regardless of footy.

Eddie kicks three and we probably come back and win it, so arguing to get rid of him is insane. He chases, harasses, shares and encourages, which is more than half the others do. Yes he is getting on, but he is still valuable in this set up.
An Essendon supporter I work with warned me about Saad. He plays when it suits him, and goes missing when the heat is on and is very good at getting cheap stats. He proved that last wekk in the final quarter when the games was dead. That probably sums him up to date. Williams is another one that goes missing when the heat is on. Cripps and Walsh created all of the drive.

We will beat Essendon next week, no doubt. Hopefully we will see 4 quarters of solid footy.
Saad is a self-indulged footballer. He deserted a lot of friends when he gained notoriety, I know that for a fact. When we gave up pick 8 for him I wanted to spew.

Say what we want about DODO but he knows how to pick the youngsters. It may be that they have a better long term future than us.
I havent watched any Essendon games this season until today but the most annoying thing is they seem to have picked up some really good kids.

Carlton have one of the best (top 5) inside extraction contested ball in the league. Bombers are trash.

Bombers have specialized in outside ball use - Carltons is probably the worst in the league.

This year the attention has switched from winning the contested ball to winning the outside.

Carlton have demonstrated their ability to fall over, drop marks, kick to the opposition or just out of bounds and utterly fail the skilfull outside ball game like no team since - forever.

We will be thoroughly demolished.

We need fast, hungry outside ball winners with skilful delivery. LOB, Ramsay, Dow. Stocker to be unleashed.

We will stick phat with Eddie Betts and Murphy in the midfield (yes that happened) and SPS with those deep penetrating like breaking kicks from the back line to Essendon directly in front.

That was the worst team the Pies have fielded in a decade. We just need to play properly and we will win.
