Autopsy Round 1, 2021 = Pies 53-69 Dogs

It was - good? - to see the Pies live again after 18 months, but that's just about where the goodness ended.

Moore was great, Checkers was good, Cox too, maybe Jamie, I dunno. Very disheartening.

I dont agree with the posters saying we played with no heart or courage. I saw plenty of that, but it was largely wasted or burnt off in fumbles, turnovers, dropped marks and some gut-wrenching free kicks against. But not blaming the umpires.

When we play like that - and we have many times in recent years - we seem to lack confidence, in each other, in the game plan, in the outcome. We hesitate, look tentative, dont know what to do and then stuff it up.

The players traded out of the club would make no difference to how we played tonight. In fact, they'd join in.

We have structural problems, with aging star and bit players, then a few in the middle, then a whole bunch of kids.

If we lose to Carlton next week, it may be time to play the kids and brace ourselves for that sort of year.

Henry looked overwhelmed, but there's definitely something there.

Anyway yeah a tough match to watch. The Carlton supporter next to us thought we were robbed by umpires and after Thursday night that’s saying something.

The bounce wasn’t with us tonight. Some rusty players, new blood and a ruck man that is yet to rediscover his mongrel.

Lets see how we respond next week

Oh wow.. you've jumped ship on Bucks... after all these years of tireless and unwavering support... thousands of posts... just like that...after round 1.. Not only jumped ship but throwing him under the bus...
Watch this space folks...

But no.. you are wrong.. not all people succumb to that. Some people do manage to put the collective, an ideal, a morality, a cause, above their own personal ego and self interest. It's as rare as hens teeth these days I will give you that though. Doesn't mean we should just accept it. Shouldn't we aspire to more from our leaders?

Not from Coaches of Sports team.

Maybe from your Spiritual Leader, Family and significant other, who are not going to live and die depending on a win loss ratio.

I'm really surprised that Grundy put us over a barrel for the big 7 year contract. It makes no sense on so many levels.

The media commentary is going to be relentless now and our supporters will eventually turn on him.

He's too nice a guy to carry the mental stress of a contract that big. Watch him retire in 2-3 years ala Boyd from the Dogs.

Lol imagine thinking you’re the hero here.
Actually you know what? I’m sorry I bit back at you.

I wasn’t trying to tell a hero story. I just want bullshit commentary like that to stop. IQ wasn’t even doing anything wrong at the time yet he got slapped with the racist card. Oh he’s black. So what. Enough is enough

I'm not a fan of the way you spell sheriff, but you're all class in the way you call out the f***wits.

Thumbs up.

If I make a comment am I going to cop the usual abuse?
Been saying it for ages about bucks, the game plan and poor recruiting but consistently got shouted down. I actually watch the game and look at it from all angles despite what others think.
I just get emotional about the pies but not this year. It’s not worth it, the club is not interested in doing the right thing and moving forward, they want to same old same old and expect different results. Game plan, playing WHE and JT and not getting a forward to help Cox.

The board will not move on Bucks during the year as they don’t have the guts to do it. They were controlled by Ed and have no backbone of their own.

It’s going to be a very long time before we are even close to a GF again. I’m just tired of the same crap.

Hi AussiePie

I totally endorse your comments. I used to feel sick in the guts when we lost. But not any more. It is obvious to everyone that Buckley must go & sooner the better. I have just watched his press conference tonight & he shows absolutely zero emotion about the performance of the team & never puts any heat on any individual players. Secondly, all he does is describe what went wrong during the game. However he never offers any "concrete" solutions. He just operates in "media" mode. I am totally over him. In addition none if the journalists present ever ask him hard & searching questions. So all in all my emotional investment in my football club will be missing in action for 2021. Goodnight & goodluck.

You understand Harry O'Brien was a premiership player in 2010?

Just got home from the G. That performance was putrid.

Barely a Collingwood player who won their respective position.

Kudos to Noble who I thought tried hard and was a solid 4 qtr contributor. The back line held up all night given the deluge of inside 50’s.

The top 9 .... read that again ...top 9 possession winners on the ground were all Bulldogs players .... I can’t recall a time we won a clean centre clearance all night.

A couple players need to be called out

If you thought Grundy’s performance last year was poor (and it was) but thought it was a “once off” due to the hub environment - think again. Our million dollar man was smashed by Stefan Martin and English. We’ve got another 7 years of this sh!t to look forward to.

Hoskin-Elliott, we’ve been carrying this guy for the last couple of years. Is not an AFL standard footballer. Should be dropped and not play senior footy. His efforts tonight were embarrassing.

Could easily call out another 10-12 players who were simply insipid.

But the final roast is for Bucks and the coaching group. I cannot see what our brand of football is. What is the essence of our game plan? Slow, long kicking down the line to a contest is that it? Is that what you spent the entire pre season on? It’s simply woeful.

Long season ahead - I had us finishing out of the 8 this year, it that performance tonight was bottom 4.

Finally atrocious umpiring. No consistency....terrible terrible.

No surprises. Pretty much what I expected.

Our defence will keep us in games, but our forward line issues haven’t changed.

This should be Buckley’s final year. No questions asked.
Disappointing loss but a bit too early to give up.

Not so much about the result but...

Disappointing and sickening. Pies supporter in front of us calling Isaac Quaynor “Harry O”

It’s ok to be disappointed in your team not doing well. But racism is never ok. We both told the guy to call him by his name. We didn’t hear a peep from him the rest of the night.

Stand up, be heard, call it out and help stamp out casual racism. That dickhead did not deserve a seat
did you alert security though and if not, why not?

Retiring in 2-3 years might be a good outcome. If we have to retain a league-average ruckman on our list for 7 years at that price, it could kill us.

Although, if Bucks goes perhaps a new coach could use his strengths and treat him as the extra midfielder he is, instead of Aaron Sandilands.

That was a 10 goal loss in Sheeps clothing.

I can't recall a more flattering margin to the losing side.

Ruscoe, Hoskin-Elliott, Thomas & Brown can literally never play for this side ever again. Nathan needs to accept he'll not be coaching next year, and to start blooding the youth.

Spot on apart from Tyler Brown, he has something there imo. However if I see Thomas get a free arm chair ride all year again I will lose my shit. WHE is rubbish, Ruscoe is afraid of the ball but doesn’t have any talent to make up for it.

If Fin Macrae doesn’t play next week I’ll be very disappointed.
