Logue was on Walker. I remember him talking about copping a big Taylor Walker boot in his back, and there still being a boot print on his back a few days later in the podcast.Wouldn't Cox play on him?

I'm not doubting that, but aren't are our two KPDs when fit Pearce and Cox?Logue was on Walker. I remember him talking about copping a big Taylor Walker boot in his back, and there still being a boot print on his back a few days later in the podcast.
Pearce was injured or he would have been on Tex, and I don't think Cox had the speed to go with Walker would be my guess... Logue usually plays on the athletic KPF like Buddy and Tex.I'm not doubting that, but aren't are our two KPDs when fit Pearce and Cox?
Luke Ryan has been doing exactly that for the last couple of years. Never misses an opportunity to support his mates.Agreed, I still see no evidence of any tough players who would give it back if a team mate is being scragged or flattened. Been a weakness for Freo for years, been great to get rid of the DH‘s but our team continues to be easy prey for snipers. We are too nice!!
Maybe.......Wouldn't Cox play on him?
Forwardline is the key the midfield will be fine. But saying that, the midfield will be the key.
Broadie and Clark look likely to play their 1st Freo game.
Will freo blood a youngster? Unlikely, more likely in Round 2
In FyfeThe first pre-match discussion of the year is finally here! Leave any changes you would like made for round 1 and pre-match discussion below.
PRESEASON TEAM
B: Ryan, Cox, Pearce
HB: Young, Logue, Clark
C: Brayshaw, Brodie, Henry
HF: Colyer, Acres, Walters
F: Taberner, Lobb, Schultz
R/Fol: Darcy, Serong, Switkowski
I: Frederick, Banfield, Crowden, Mundy, Chapman, Wilson, Hughes, Meek
E: O’Driscoll, Blakely, Hamling, Western
Yeah there are some individuals on some occasions that have helped out team mates (I think Darcy for example is very capable of helping team mates in the future). We need to do it more as a team, too often I see a Freo player getting belted around the oval (often Fyfe or Brayshaw) and there just does not seem to be that team support (within the rules) to ensure that the opposition know they can’t get away with that treatment.Luke Ryan has been doing exactly that for the last couple of years. Never misses an opportunity to support his mates.
With the numbers of small forwards we have compared to genuine mids, surely Banfield goes before Brodie? Especially with Crowden as sub. Inside midfield rotation is weak if not (only Fyfe, Brayshaw, Serong and Mundy). In Fyfe
Out Meek, Wilson (inj), Hughes, crowden (sub) and Brodie
first 3 outs relatively easy, I really struggle with the last 2. Brodie stays in if Fyfe doesn’t get up.
Round 1 TEAM
B: Ryan, Cox, Pearce
HB: Young, Logue, Clark
C: Acres, Brayshaw, Henry
HF: Colyer, Frederick, Walters
F: Taberner, Lobb, Schultz
R/Fol: Darcy, Serong, Fyfe
I: Switkowski, Banfield, Mundy, Chapman
S: Crowden
Yeah, good point - banfield out, Brodie stays in.With the numbers of small forwards we have compared to genuine mids, surely Banfield goes before Brodie? Especially with Crowden as sub. Inside midfield rotation is weak if not (only Fyfe, Brayshaw, Serong and Mundy).
Otherwise spot on.
yeah we dominated the early goings of that game, should have been up by 3 or 4 goals before the dees kicked one, if not for our goal kicking being woeful. cerra had one of the biggest shanks for goal i've ever seen.My memories of round 1 last year differs from yours. We dominated the early contests and could have been 3-4 goals ahead except for butchering chances.
I agree with your Essendon summary
I know what you are saying, but for mine, I am so heartily sick of us being good at contested ball but then "butchering chances".My memories of round 1 last year differs from yours. We dominated the early contests and could have been 3-4 goals ahead except for butchering chances.

Didn't Jlo bring in that performance coach that worked with all those high profile golfers to help with their goal kicking? Awesome move but looks like it hasn't paid off if this continues...I know what you are saying, but for mine, I am so heartily sick of us being good at contested ball but then "butchering chances".
Being poor with the ball in hand is just as big a sin (for me) as being poor defensively or being poor at the contest. All three parts of the game are equal in importance.
Its no good being this hard-at-it blue collar side that creates a lot of heat around the ball but then kicks it over the head of a leading forward or misses shots at goal straight in front from 30m.
If we had as much "polish" as "grunt" we would probably have a couple of flags by now and spent most of the last decade playing in September.
Lets show that we are ready to play in all facets of the game!
He only uses Broadie when he’s setting up equipment for bands. But saying that, the midfield will be the key.
Broadie and Clark look likely to play their 1st Freo game.
Will freo blood a youngster? Unlikely, more likely in Round 2
Make or break game coming early?
In reality we need some away wins to play finals and this is an opportunity we cannot miss. The psychology of a win will also be massive for our young side, and vice versa. Isn’t all this basically what I said ? Lol

This should be an easy kill if there is such a thing. There won't be many better opportunities for an away win this season. As an FYI, looks like the bookies have us favored atm.
Crows @ 2.10
Fremantle @ 1.80
Last year we went in as underdogs:
Crows @ 1.65
Fremantle @ 2.20
Sounds about right to me.
Yesterday showed how much we need Treacy IMO. We need someone who kicks straight and puts on forward pressure. If some people are happy to rush back Aish, I think there's a much stronger case for Treacy.
B: Ryan, Cox, Logue
HB: Young, Pearce, Clark
C: Mundy, Fyfe, Acres
HF: Frederick, Taberner, Walters
F: Switkowski, Lobb, Schultz
R/Fol: Darcy, Serong, Brayshaw
I: Treacy, Brodie, Colyer, Chapman
Aish, Hamling, Meek, Henry, Tucker, Walker, Sturt, Erasmus, NOD, Blakely waiting in the wings
I also think Henry is a lock and the only spots debateable at the moment from your list is Colyer and Acres. Even Colyer's is hard to justify being debateable on current and recent form.B: Ryan, Cox, Logue
HB: Young, Pearce, Clark
C: Acres, Fyfe, Henry
HF: Frederick, Taberner, Walters
F: Switkowski, Lobb, Schultz
R/Fol: Darcy, Serong, Brayshaw
I: Colyer, Brodie, Mundy, Chapman
I don't think there's any chance that Henry will be dropped for Round 1, you can bookmark this post and come back to harrass me if I'm wrong.
Hamling is nowhere near it. JL has more or less said that he's miles behind. He's only coming in if there injuries anyway (imo).
I would have Tucker in but it's probably unlikely due to limited match minutes, by all reports he's had a seriously good pre season and had Acres' wing earmarked. Acres does deserve his Round 1 spot but will be sweating bullets if Tucker has a good WAFL practice match.
If Fyfe doesn't come up then Brodie starts on field and Banfield to the bench.
Post Round 1.. I have NFI how we make room for Treacy and Sturt. Sturt in for Schultz maybe?? I say that being a huge Schultz fan. What a great position to be in.
Lobb will break his pea heart or his feelings or something soon enough and Treacy can work his way in though Ruck relief will be a dilemma...
