The after match review on Fox with DelSanto, Mooney & some muppet who is irrelevant, is all about the Saints and hardly mentioned the pies. It was atrocious!

I actually thought Grundys effort was much improved and it was just touch and timing that was out. Massive last quarter too.

DeGoey did more simple things which was good to go along with the brilliant. Lipinski and Daicos look class additions to the side.

Is it just me or do we have the some of the best players in the league who just make a lot of bad mistakes? How many times did Moore and Grundy stuff up? I mean both played well, but geez clanger fest.

Ginnivan looks like a player other teams will hate, which equals he may be a good goal sneak. Madgen played fine I thought, if he was 3 inches taller would be a fine full back prospect. Quaynor and Howe very good in defence. I mean, Howe, Moore, Maynard, Quaynor is a brilliant defence to work around.

Olly Henry was about to be on my hit list after his inexcusable fumble in the last, only to then kick a freakish goal a few mins later. That's not the first time I've seen him fumble a relatively easy ground ball and is not something I like seeing (N Daicos fumbled a drink bottle at some point, but doesn't know how to fumble a footy).

You can see why some rate T Brown internally, he does these class things sometimes, but there is never enough of them and he also is prone to a bad error as well, usually straight after he has done the class thing.

Great to see J Daicos and Sidebottom stationed on wings and left there.

I had our bests as Lipinski, Sidebottom, Degoey, Howe, Mcreery (animal), N Daicos, Quaynor and Grundy.

What a great win. For a side with so many young players to halt their momentum and then kick away again was very pleasing.
I didn't realise Lippa was that good.
Great debut by Nick, but we won by 161 points less than his old man's first game, he'll have to pull his socks up.

3 votes De Goey
2 votes Lipinski
1 vote N. Daicos
I think our best, or at least most important, was Taylor Adams. 11 clearances (next best was 6) including 8 out of the centre. 5 inside 50’s and 2 goal assists. Outstanding inside midfielder’s game

Drew Jones got the late call up to replace Tom Morris in that trio. Bad luck for Tom but I’m sure Drew will be happy with the promotion.

Really liked McCreery. Moment that summed up his value was the downfield paid against him. Wasn't that he gave the bloke a big shove, it was just that he closed the space down so fast the bloke panicked and lost balance so that the light push sent him flying.

I can see him causing that panic all year.
I can see him getting biffed a few times as well lol.

Glad I was wrong about what I thought Pre-Game.

Like Most games this Season our Difference between our Best and Worse is Big but we keeper Fighting.

2 Debutants Lipinki and Nick where Great.

Grundy was Good

Good first up win, still very rusty with the skills but that will come with more games. Great to see the young players do well and when they stuffed up they didn’t sook but had another crack. Henry in particular for that and Nick in the first.

So I don’t know if this was a highlight or not. Listening to SEN with the TV muted and Gerard comes up with, “Goggle Cox has the mark.” I want to sort of give him a thumbs up for that but he did also say that “Oliver wants some more” goals that is. That fact that I got the joke may be an indictment on me.

Anyway we’ll done boys good start.

Nick Daicos… 27 touches in his first game and wouldn’t blow out a Candle.

Steele sidebottom… I apologise.

Lipinski. So happy for him… and us

Mihocek v good .. should’ve bagged 5.

Brodie Grundy… please take a 30% pay cut.

Lots of cameos.

Pleasantly surprised

If you take out their purple patch which came from our mistakes, we win by 50 points.

Off the top of my head:
  • Moore drops a mark on the goal line
  • Beau gives away a down the field kick
  • Grundy infringes on the ruck contest
  • Moore tries to switch the ball (twice)
  • Madgen butter fingers in the goal square

Congrats boys, a lot to like. Be good to see someone better replace Madgen and Noble and a big fella that doesn’t need glasses but overall pleasing.
Those Daicos boys 😍

I thought Noble had a great game?

Great win.

Ginnovan looks like an Instagram influencer who is playing football as part of his social media strategy. He can certainly play and hope he continues playing like he is but wouldnt be surprised if he pulls out his Iphone from his sock when lining up for goal to post online to promote a product online.

Grundy has less of the ball but had a more positive impact than he does sometimes.

Loved Daicos not bad getting 27 touches first game. One more than Peter the great.

De Goey excited about him wanting to sign on.

Henry is quality lots of talent, reminds me of Hird in 93 when I used to get dragged to games by friends who loved the bombers. This side had that same sort of vibe they got mid season that year. Only one game so lots more to go and exciting youth in the VFL

I thought Cox and Brown were OK. I think both have players trapped in their body waiting to burst out. With Cox it usually comes in September. he had some good moments though.

Was a good start need to work on the defence but that will take time.

Saints were missing some good players we can only beat who is in the 22 so a good win and lot of improvement in us and a lot to be excited about.

The good …

  • How good is Lipinski?!?
  • Great debut by N.Daicos.
  • The win. I have zero expectations this year - any win is a great win!!
  • We were able to get that win without Maynard and Roughead / Dean
  • The young forward line players, McCreery, Ginnivan, Henry all contributed well.
  • Good game by DeGoey
  • Sidebottom played a good game
  • J.Daicos played a decent game
  • Consistently winning the clearances in the first half.
  • Getting back control of the game
  • No injuries

The Bad

- Nothing really? We’re a young side, we’re going to expect some inconsistencies.

The Ugly

- Nada

Pros:
Defensive lineup held up - 5 goals to half time. Great effort!!!
Midfield sensational, led by Lipinski. De Goey too. Pure midfield and forward weapon.
Forwards an even threat - multiples goal kickers and even contribution.

Daicos boys superb.
Sneaky clever Steele was in the building.
Johnny Noble and IQ had very good games.

Cons:
Saints players were cheating over the back late, and not enough players were going with them. They could have got some very easy goals if it got through.

I thought our game management could have been a little more Flood-ish to see out the game. For the first 3.5 qtrs it’s fine to win territory and contests forward, but we also need to have a “see out the game mode”. I think we were 10 points up and had less numbers behind centre than the Saints at one stage. Just a small thing but a big thing if you lose.

Really impressed with the win tonight. I know St Kilda won’t be the toughest opponent we will face this year but as a starting point it was really pleasing.

A few points (most probably made already in the thread but I’ve just got home and haven’t read through it yet):

- a big ✅ for the coaching group to get the side to regroup at 3/4 time when it looked like we would be overrun. Great sign right there.

- Lipinski was just as good as I’d hoped. Added so much to the midfield and shapes as a brilliant bargain pickup.

- Both Daicos boys impressed. A great sentence to type.

- The leaders stood up when needed. Pendles, Adams, Grundy, Moore instrumental in shifting the momentum back decisively in our favour.

- We will look better with Maynard and Roughead / Dean in defence but they held up ok

- So much more fun to watch that style of play than the previous few years!

What a breath of fresh air that game was!
Will watched the replay properly this weekend, unfortunately was working so missed the first 2 and a half quarters other than glimpses on my breaks.

So much cleaner with the footy when we move it quick and direct. Lippa, De Goey and Tay Tay in the middle was beastly.
I think we sign one more big signing midfielder end of the season and we’re set for the next few years there.
Grundy didn’t give in and stepped up when needed.
With Maynard and Roughead still to come back we will have the no 1 defence, lacked that experience when the saints were on the counter.
Daicos is going to be special, both of them.
Also, haven’t seen many comments about him but special mention to Quaynor, He fits in so well of the HBF, is always near the footy and reads it so well. 20 disposals and 8 of them were intercepts. He’s a keeper.

Surprised I haven’t seen much talk about Elliott. His attack on the footy, pressure and desperation were top notch. When they’re all up and about Elliott, McCreery and Ginnivan are an elite small forward trio.

Also really liked seeing us predominately standing 5m off the mark for a couple of reasons. It showed the players were playing to a clear instruction and I was surprised to not see it used consistently within a match last year. It really helps offset the stand rule.

Any reason Moore spent the first 10 minutes of the second quarter on the bench?
