Round 1 Trading

Anyone trading Clark out after round 1 is crazy. Take it from someone who was actually at the ground, you could tell he was sick even before the game started when he was just standing on the ground. This is someone who was averaging like 20 touches a game last year, he only got 9 touches and 2 marks. He wasn't able to play the way he normally does. Will bounce back on thursday.

Due to the number of rookie mids pulling decent scores, I actually think there is cause for serious consideration to increasing the starting rookie mids you have by 1, for those who went 2 or 3.

Not saying I will do it, but it nets 200k+, which can allow for 2 upgrades - surely this is tempting when we can base the two upgrades on form after round 2.

It will cost 3 trades, but it will net 2 upgrades of in-form players - this is really no different from upgrading later in the year.

Another factor is the lack of forward rookies seemingly available this year - although it would have been nice to pick the 2 correct rookies from the start, I don't think you would want to be missing out of the few that will make you money.

Early days still but the mid rookie strategy really could work this year. I started 4 rookies in my midfield and still managed 2100 thanks in large part to the extra premiums i could afford in my backline and forward line. This with franklin and gray not playing for me and having to get replaced by 2 forward rookies who only combined for 100. If the mid rookies can keep up there early scoring this could leave people who loaded up on them early in the season to make a nice push midyear.

Craig stuck him in the ruck for most of the game due in part to the absence of Maric. There is probably no greater challenge for a ruckman than facing Aaron "Andre the Giant" Sandilands on his home turf, particularly a part-time one.

Expect better from Tippet in the weeks to come.

Nah. I watched the whole game, he spent most of his time in the forward line and a couple of times he had stints in the ruck.

He could have scored decently had he converted, he missed 4 or 5 gettable shots on goal.

Still don't think he is a very good pickup though, he is not really a DTer, will avg in the 70's imo. He will most likely be used at full forward and doesn't play that higher role that may high scoring forwards play (Eg- OKeefe, Pav, Brown, Riewoldt...etc).

That is complete bulls**# IMO! Say you have picked up Gumby who doesn't look like he will score any more than 20 PPG this season, and there is Carl Peterson who looks like the next Chris Judd. Dont you think it would be logical to trade Peterson in!!?

No, not yet.

Keep the faith with Gumbleton. According to MMM he was running well, putting himself in all the right positions, but just couldn't get his hands on the pill. He'll get better with time and is still in Essendon's best 22.

There's no good reason to trade in Round 1 unless there's an LTI with no bench backup, in which case you were probably fecked anyway.

First trades should always be for rookie price rises in Round 3 where necessary.

hmm... must of watched a different game to me.
He pretty much shared the rucking duties with Griffen and Taylor Walker was the goto forward.

Don't agree with your Tippett synopsis. Time will tell.

Only two players I'm monitoring on trading out are Hille and Gray at the moment.

Depending on what the tribunal draw from the hat Hille could be in or out of my team, if he got a week I'd be inclined to bench him for the week with Warnock covering, but if he copped two weeks a straight swap to Ottens is looking likely.

If Gray doesn't play this week there's only so long I can keep him at the bench at his price rotting away while losing points, If he doesn't play this week there has to be something really wrong with him and getting Franklin might be the way to go.

Just my thoughts on these two players who I'm sure are owned by many dreamteamers.

Keep Hille. Two weeks max, HUN thinks he'll get one week. Even if he does get 2 weeks, there is no point in wasting a trade on him.

As for Gray, see what the Port Board say about him. I also have him and will be monitoring his injury closely.

I'm disappointed with Luke Ball, and probably regret not picking an extra rookie instead of him. He had very low Tog and this is not good signs for him for the rest of the year. If his TOG doesn't improve, he may be the first upgraded.

He had very low Tog..

Just out of interest; what was his TOG total?

Hopefully he was just easing back into it after participating in the Grand Final last season, which meant a slightly less taxing preseason program.

Are people going to jump on Malceski if he dominates next week as well?

He played the looseman role on the weekend and can certainly rack it up but be warned, he has teased in the past only to burn those that get on board.

If Malceski loses a bit of confidence, his scoring plummets. He might also attract a forward tag if he continues to assume that free-roaming half back role.

At 240k he represents value but so does Ladson (180k/DP) and Kennelly (200k).

something tells me that AFL article has got the flu mixed up with Hargrave and Clark

so if your particular team has Hargrave smiths, I wouldn't panic yet, but I wouldn't be overly satisfied with my 410k defender just yet

The only changes I'll be making are getting Gumbleton the f*** off the field and bringing Franklin off the bench. I had Peterson on the bench too, but I'm backing Hitchc*ck to score better against WCE at Subi (Port always play well there) over Peterson running rings around Geelong's AA half-back line.

thinking of trading hunt for ladson or waters

of course, ill wait till next week to do that

what are your thoughts on this? this is the only "tweak" to my team i am planning to make for the first 6 or so weeks

Unless you didn't do any research and your starting squad is completely useless then you shouldn't be trading any player unless they're injured or suspended for a long period of time! Amazing at how many of you are jumping off 22 game players (and trading sideways) because of 1 bad game/another expected bad game. If you plan on keeping a player for the whole season ie. Hargrave/Tippet then his price rise/decrease is irrelevant.

Will be simply bringing in Franklin for Hitchcock and looking to use Bastinac or Shuey instead of Trengove. Depending on who they play ect.
