Career Best for Kiddy.

either too short or on top of them.

Just got to kick into the space in front of a player FFS.

Pathetic performance outside last quarter when Saints were cooked with only 1 rotation.
Pathetic is terrible call, yes sloppy skills in particular the first half, but dominated the second half just didn't finish off the good work. Six day break from WA against top 6 side off 13 day break...

Andrew’s was great tonight. Played King really well.

Looked like Andrews cannot stand King to me. Constant off the ball niggle, always seemed to one of them hitting the deck courtesy of the other. Loved it.

So relieved to get the win after we kept butchering it going forward . Neale ,McCluggage ,Berry ,Coleman were all awesome. In that order .Raffle the 5th spot.

The score reviews are out of control. Not only do you lose all momentum when they frig around for 2 minutes but when the reviewer pulls one out of his backside where the defender wasn't squawking and no umpire queried it and they're in the centre to bounce the ball is a Benny Hill skit surely.

Sack him. In fact sack the review system . Only to be used where it's a self evident howler , like called a goal when it goes through the points. The goal umpires are petrified so they review everything that's remotely close. When is the vision ever really conclusive for touched. The fool was saying the ball deviated. Balls deviate without them being touched. All the time.

We're obviously not in our best form and everyone has strong doubts whether we're up to it against top opposition in a pressure game but we're still 10-3 ,easy draw or not ,so we live in hope.

Lyons is not up to it presently in my view but picked up a lot of easy touches in the last half including 3 in the last minute . Robbo is done . Berry and Neale to their credit really got deep into the back half tonight when we were under the pump and made a big difference.

Career Best for Kiddy.
Jarryd Lyons needs a spell, as evident in the above graphic.

The bye will do that for him and I hope he can re-find his best footy.

Coming off a 6 day break from Perth against a team coming off the bye. Bank em and refresh at the bye.

I've seen some Saints supporters complaining about the umpires after we copped the worst deliberate rushed behind of the season and had two inconclusive goals overturned hahahaha. We played crap tonight and were still probably a u goal better side.

I actually like the Saints but god their supporters have a loser mentality sometimes.

That rushed behind decision was actually correct - he was well outside the square when he hit it.

But I didn't admit that the st kilda fans around us. Was a fair bit of banter. So thankful we won just for the banter. Could have got ugly 🤣🤣

I'm not totally on the Dev Robertson bandwagon but one think I love is that he's very competitive and never gives up in a contest. I think we could do worse than get he and Tommy Berry into our midfield mix and give them a few games. I doubt we'll win a GF with our present line up.

At least they are calling it a goal then reviewing it, allowing for umpires call. I don't really mind that. But at least take the conclusiveness into account.

With the Rayner one the goal ump was right on the line 4 feet away.

The camera often lines. The angles are deceptive and not conclusive. As for being touched don't even start me. It's impossible to tell conclusively. In a court of law it wouldn't get past the pre trial conference.

3 of my best were in defence. nice to see the backs looking a lot more stable. king pretty much a non factor without free kicks is a big tick from me. kiddy and rich outstanding at moving the ball out of back half tonight as well

brutal last two weeks though. we definitely need the bye.

thats probably robbos last game for a while. potentially forever.
Unfortunately Ah Chee has to take Robbos spot.

Some positives.

McInerny was good and started to take some marks. Against strong opposition.

McStay showed some real value when switched down back . He can play there if needed. Not a bad idea at times. Gardiner was going a lot better tonight ,a shame he copped another one.

Rayner continues to look the goods more often than not.

Coleman could be a younger ,injury free Josh Drummond because when he gets the ball his decision making is elite for someone who's only played a handful of games. He also gave a lot of support to Adams and Andrews by backing back into the contest and getting a hand in.

The second yes, though they only showed the conclusive angle after the decision was announced. The first no - I still don't get how that was meant to be conclusive given the footage was all a blur.
Is it really conclusive if the footage showing the touch could not be determined whether it happened before or after the goal line? The umpire call was goal.

With a tear in my one eye, even I admit that robbo is on the way out.

Love his aggression, love his passion and he does a lot right. But maybe the changers are mounting.

Dom Fay said the fairytale is Mitch playing twos this year, then getting called up for the granny, the team wins and he announces his retirement as he accepts his medal. I'm OK with storyline.

Saints fans patting themselves on the back for a close loss because "so many of their players down on form" - that's one take which is as accurate as our goal kicking tonight...

Special shout out to Jerry (J Berry).

He's easily the hardest working player in the side and he's now also showing some real class after a difficult couple of years with injury and illness.

Showing why Fages has kept faith with him.

There were calls coming from some here for him to be dropped earlier in the season and/or harsh criticisms about his ability as a footballer.

I've always had a soft spot for him and I am absolutely delighted that he is finally realising his true potential

Two points

  1. The move of Dan down back is something that should have been happening for years.
  2. Our defence stood up today(it is day in Rome) and was very difficult to score against and I'm not sure why
I thought the Big O copped a hiding in the first half but i will look at the game again but I would be interested to see what people think about our defensive effort. The Saints didn't stream forward, cutting us to threads as teams have done recently. Was this due to better setting up?

Fages' explanation of Fort as the sub makes a lot of sense.
Its interesting isn't it. If he's losing sleep over it like that why not include him in the team proper? I think in the end the right call was made. We need to get the 3 talls as much time together a we run into the finals as we can.

Not sure if anyone really had a stinker tonight. Hippy was quiet , and some of our mids had their ups and down, but I think most of the (if any) negative feelings about that game came from the terrible miskicks we had here and there, our terrible accuracy and the general lack of connectedness between mids and forwards. (and of course the umpiring :p)

Posters have rightly mentioned how we defended incredibly well against goals from clearances (Fages liked that point too in the presser) and the cohesive team defense we had tonight, working for each other. Now for a team with a lone guiding light in their forward line like King that will work.

We come into the bye with some issues and the boys look pretty tired. Lets hope we manage the physical load running into the finals and are fit and firing.

Dev had more of a frenetic pressuring impact than Robbo and was cleaner with the ball too. If we aren't liking Prior there, Ah Chee has shown he should be in the team.

If Gardiner needs more than the two weeks, what is the status of Payne? Also I would keep Zorko off for as long as needed, we can't have him limping all the way to the end. Keep dev in and maybe its finally time for Berry the Younger.
