Autopsy Round 13, 2024 : Hawks slay the Giants

Weddle will be like Koutoufedis. Day a massive leader.

No need to get more draft picks. Making it a destination club and get high end talent that way. All the top clubs have players from other sides who transfer across, ie. where would Adelaide be without Dawson, Rankine? Melbourne without May/Lever? Geelong without Cameron & all the others. If we can snag one or two high end players, sky is the limit.
Fair comparison with Kouta, was the best in the league before his injury.

When both Day and Weddle hit their peak, it will be like having both Hird and Kouta from the 90’s in the same team.

The Hird and Koutta comparisons are very apt.

Weddle is like Koutta in the way he uses his elite atheltsitcim to break games open and Day is like Hird in that he is a true one touch player who is also hard as nails.

If Underwood commentates the bottom ranked sides it would put an instant end to tanking.

What a win!!!!

This is one of the great posts!

One year we had a post of the year competition and this would be the nomination from this round if it still existed.🤣

As an aside Dermie has previously shown that he's one of the few former player commentators who understands the difference between laconic and lackadaisical and yet today he described Chol as having a laconic bearing.

It was my say it ain't so Joe/ Dermie moment.

That is a win for the ages.

Does anyone think Dear might be the best contested mark in the competition. I'm only half joking when I say that, in 2 years time I can't see it not being the case, he's got a leap on him and clearly judges the flight early, might be an idea to not overly build him up....we want him as the Gazelle not the Ox.

His run down tackling is a weapon too which probably requires him to remain lean and agile.

Every day I just marvel how the footy gods bestowed him upon us to fill our most obvious and difficult to fill need.

He's obviously had a rough trot so early in his life and you just feel that he deserves everything good that comes to him. Love him beaucoup.

Not even exaggerating that was the most ineffectual game I have ever seen Toby Greene play. We absolutely shut him down.
He's actually been poor this season, really down on his usual output but yeah - we did well to not let him into the game.

and the best part...

Watson and Meek weren't playing

Our best forward is still out injured,

Wingard is improving every week - Ward and Hustwaite are 20 year old mids

From the game

Day is a champ

The rascal pack is most definitely a thing now

Dear is the find of the year and surely must be in the talk for the Rising Star,

Weddle could be the next big thing

Mc Donald is showing what the future could be along with McKenzie and D'Ambrosio

Chol is an absolute steal -

CJ people forget is still finding touch after a long time out of the game -

Impey is heart and soul of this club (along with Moore)

Let's enjoy the ride (some of the comments on the match day board during the game are just plain embarrassing)

ever up and onward

My favourite commentary moment for the game was when you could feel the awkwardness when Underwood called CJ Chol😂🤦‍♂️

I can’t not love Derm, I’m the only Hawthorn supporter in the family and he is the reason I started barracking for Hawthorn when I was a kid. I have four kids, all Hawthorn members and that man is the reason. Love “The Kid”

I felt second hand embarrassment in that moment

How many other second year players are doing what Weddle did tonight? Highest ceiling in the league imo.
Unreal. After thinking about your post and different perspectives on the Weddle thread where someone said he's best utilised as a utility being put where needed in game, whilst another said just play him in the guts; I had the thought if we play WC in a few years and they've become a decent side what would happen if we played Weddle on Reid? Not a tag person se, more head to head.

Would he negate him and hurt him more the other way or would it be a waste. If they moved Reid forward then he's not going to get any change out of Weddle there.

He's a freak, I genuinely have faith that Sammy will use him in the optimum way, whatever that might be. (I'm leaning to the utility Brishawk suggestion... Burgoyne break glass role).

Day, Chol, D’Ambrosio, Meek (when he was fit), Amon, Weddle, Dear, Mackenzie, Ginnivan and Frost are all key planks of this football team’s resurgence who were brought in while Mark McKenzie has been the head of list management. He was also involved in the recruitment decisions of Lewis and Worpel when working under Wright. He’s still got Ward, Huss and Watson developing nicely. Mark McKenzie has absolutely nailed the brief ever since this list has been his and for all the crap he’s copped here off season after off season - I for one couldn’t be bloody happier at the job he’s doing. The trading back for Weddle will go down as absolute drafting genius. I hope we have him nailed down with a juicy long contract because I only want him working for us.

(Note that Newcombe isn’t mentioned above as I’ve been informed previously that was an Andy Collins special).

extended nap times in his next contract

I emailed the club during the week, told them that today was my birthday and I'd appreciate a win please. I don't want to say I'm responsible for the win, but, well...you're welcome ;)
Happy Birthday to you! :D
