Hello all, excuse the intrusion. Many of us Bomber fans were hoping we’d get to witness Harley Reid play, he’s an amazing young talent and would’ve brought lots of fans through the turnstiles if he was playing..

I suspect it will be close than many naturally think. Essendon slightly ‘off’ mentally are vulnerable.

Is Tim Kelly playing ? He’s an important addition to your midfield group.

Will there be many Eagles fans in Victoria attending this game? Ticket sales are really strong so I was wondering if this is due to a large contingent of Eagles fans going to the game in a good family slot?

Anyhow, may the better team win 👍

- Not if they are smart

You don't think the reigning Best and Fairest winner will be a big inclusion for the midfield?

Apparently Maric trained with the midfielder group today. Could be something to watch.
‘Forward Ryan Maric was working alongside stoppage coach Luke Shuey and the rest of the midfield brigade in some ball movement drills indicating he could be pushed further up the ground in the coming weeks.’

Nice, hope to see him up on a wing or something very soon.
Hunt back to half back bringing some of that speed we lack, and Maric/Chess as the wingers would be nice

A four day break?! That's all?
I'm in my early thirties and I'm sore after a gym session for multiple days (four minimum).
No surprise there's such a high amount of injuries in the game atm, they're no doubt over trained, compound that week in and out

The issue is the Pre-seasons are too short and arguably they don't have the players for long post season either. so a lot of what they have to do for improvement comes from the limited time post season and in pre-season and the rest is during the season.

If pre-season was longer it would mean they are likely to be better prepared and conditioned.

If that's the case, the solution to a longer pre season would be less rounds in the year?

One suggestion that I think Corbin Middlemas (spelling?) put forward was play everyone once (✅✅✅) but keep the season the same length. That is, I guess approx 2 byes per week. Hopefully less injuries too.

There are other options but I don’t think the broadcasters would allow any reduction in games. And we know it’s the AFLs addiction to $$$$$ that gives the broadcasters that power.

Doubt Corbin has actually done the maths on the foregone revenue in both television rights and ticket sales.

It's time Hall in. We need some youth injection. Shouldn't be hard to find somebody to boot out for Hall

Career tip for Hall:

Hewett also joined the main group for some drills so it's good signs so far.

20 teams playing 20 games (everyone plays everyone once, then doubles up against one arch rival) would be 200 games. We’ve currently got 207, prior to Gather Round being added it was 198.

West Coast Training Notes: Jack Darling on light duties as forward Ryan Maric looks to settle into new role

There was no taking it easy for West Coast players who were put through their paces after coming back from a four-day break on Thursday morning. Here’s what we saw...

Birthday Boy Blues
Jack Darling was celebrating his 32nd birthday but there was no usual birthday goal kick for the spearhead who didn’t participate in main training.

Darling was the first out on the track running laps and was sporting some strapping on his left knee just days after collecting only seven touches and kicking 1.3 against North Melbourne.

The veteran spearhead spent time with co-captain Liam Duggan, who is recovering from a concussion against the Kangaroos, before doing more work on the opposite oval with some other teammates on light duties.

Interestingly, Dom Sheed did conditioning work with injured defender Rhett Bazzo instead of training as well, having been hampered earlier this year by a foot issue.

Co-captain Oscar Allen and reigning club champion Tim Kelly did some light handball work and kicking before disappearing into the club rooms after about 15 minutes.

In a good sign, second-year midfielder Elijah Hewett started the session with the main group before going to do his solo running as he continues his recovery from serious foot surgery.

Maric’s Change of Role?
Late in the session players went into several different groups to work on specific areas and there was an interesting face training with the midfielders.

Forward Ryan Maric was working alongside stoppage coach Luke Shuey and the rest of the midfield brigade in some ball movement drills indicating he could be pushed further up the ground in the coming weeks.

Maric was picked up in last season’s mid-season rookie draft as a forward, but hasn’t kicked multiple goals this season despite playing in 11 of a possible 13 games.

The recruitment of Jack Hutchinson and pending return of Allen gives the Eagles plenty of forward options, so a move up the ground could be good for Maric.

Maric is mobile for 196cm and is an excellent field kick as displayed in the last quarter of the loss to North Melbourne when he laced out forward Jake Waterman.

This will be a big watch.

Coach Watch
Finally Harry Taylor is in Eagles colours. The retired Geelong superstar has joined the Eagles this year as a leadership consultant but on Thursday he was giving a helping hand at training.

A dual premiership player and two-time All-Australian, Taylor is the perfect mentor for the likes of Harry Edwards and the other young defenders with his experience and knowledge hard to come by.
While Taylor was a new face, things weren’t going so good for midfield coach Jarrad Schofield who was sporting a sling on his left arm.

The former West Coast, Port Adelaide and Fremantle midfielder was doing his best to help when he could but there was little he could do other than direct traffic with one arm.

It meant Shuey was doing a lot of ball work with the midfielders for the majority of the session.

Plenty more examples of him lacing out players - that one to waterman was nothing compared to some of his bullets this year. Incredible kick of the footy

I've got a feeling Zane Trew could be on the verge of breaking into this side in a big way.

Culley had one clearance and six contested possessions while playing the majority of his game in the middle. Not up to it at this level

First game back at the top level after an ACL.

We were were badly beaten at stoppages.

How about giving the kid a couple of games to get going before writting him off. Geez.

Main takeaways
• Allen got through unscathed and played forward in matchsim with Waterman and B-Will
• Hunt trained and looks ready to return
• Kelly didn’t and doesn’t
• Sounds like Duggan, Darling, Sheed and Hough trained away from the main group
• Luke Edwards is over his concussion
