There actually is some science between our loss tonight and the jumper.

Anyone who actually plays sports such as soccer or footy and is interested in football boots will know this. Nike has developed science into the creation of their football boots, specifically the colour. The deliberately use special colours such as violet, orange etc because they stand out the best or can be seen the best out of a players peripheral vision against a green surface. Grey on the other hand is an awful colour and does not standout against the green. Therefore when a player needs to quickly make a split second decision as they are pressured, they may have to spend an extra second on the ball in order to identify their team mates.
True story.

As stupid as this sounds I definitely noticed a couple of times when we seemed to turn it straight over to St Kilda players in a split second decision situation, I thought at the time that the players must have seen the red and black in the St Kilda jumper and reacted. Would be tough to adjust to the grey after playing all your football in red and black.

Wow just thinking of it now heath hocking may have really cost us.
We are playing geelong, hawthorn, adelaide in the coming weeks and out number 1 tagger is gone

You could see that Dempsey was concerned about it on The Hangar.

Not the first time that the flat-footedness of the coaching staff has been a concern. You've got to have more match-day tricks in the bag than switching Carlisle and/or Hurley.

Watson was double-teamed and basically demolished. The big concern is that no one was able to plug that hole, not in any halfway adequate fashion. Pulverised in the middle, and all other opposition will sit up and take notice. Wouldn't be surprised if we see similar things happening on the run home.

Basically, over the course of 2 hours the chance to make something of this season just evaporated. That sounds hysterical, but when you look at how comprehensive that defeat is coupled by some major, major outs in Hurley and surely Hocking, and then look at what we have ahead of us and the ground we stand on all of a sudden doesn't look so stable.

I can't accept that St Kilda now are that much better than us now, but if I hear "aberration" mentioned from anyone in the EFC then we might as well pack it all in. It's not an aberration it's a big bloody warning sign heralding the swift and dramatic depth testing we're about to undergo, both in terms of match selection and who can step up in the middle of the ground.

What a miserable birthday present. I know that feel, Macca.

they'll be loading because hocking has a record. Now I'm not sure if he's got the head, I don't think he has, but the damage, i guess, he suffered was above the head, and i'm pretty sure that didn't come from hitting the turf, and the angles we saw wasn't the best. And even if he has got the head, it might not be enough force. So we really have no idea what will happen

Well we had a guy who maybe could have, but he was playing in the backline....No-one other than Stanton was running hard into space, or trying to find space, either. Not sure what our options to help out there are, Lee maybe?

Jumper confusion aside there are some serious issues that need to be adressed if we want to be anywhere meaningful in september-
Saw this a lot last year where we just struggled to find a plan B when things were goin wrong and received a few to many hidings as a results of it-thought wed turned it around this year as a result of the comebacks in the Collingwood, Sydney and Freo Games but obviously not

hooker needs to be dropped as his skills and confidence is hurting the backline. heppel could also with some time in the magoos to get hungry again.

To bitch and moan about team selection and structure on a night on which we were hopeless in every facet of the game probably misses the point but I am going to do it anyway.

TRB are continually trying to have their cake and eat it and we frequently get found out because of it.

It is ******* infuriating that we went into the side a KPP down. It was obvious that we were going to persist with using Myers in defence ( to accommodate the inclusion of Lonergan) and as it shaped there seemed a good chance that Carlisle would be thrown forward. In the circumstances I can only think that opposition coaches boxes are happy for us to select a side the way we did.

The advantage of having versatile KPPs that can be interchanged forward and back is negated when we don't have the proper number of KPPs selected. Fletcher was trouble by Kozy and Hooker was being lead a merry dance by Riewoldt but we were unable to turn to Carlisle because he was plugging holes in the forward line. It was a complacent selection and the latest example of TRB being far too prepared to ignore selecting the proper side (putting players in position) to fit in too many of the same bloody players in the midfield.

To top it off Hurley was practically spent in the warm up and he barely lasted a half. This is not the sort of issue they would not be aware of. All of the photographs of Hurley and the unflattering jumper colour and cut have highlighted that Hurls is not fit. He looks like he has hardly completed a preseason and certainly does not look like he is doing any work during the week.

Bomber said that the concern about Gumby was that he hadn't played a game for a while but TBC could have come in with Ryder to play as a permanent forward (considering that TBC and Ryder have developed a lot as players since the three rucks were last used).

As for the players I was most concerned about Hooker. He just couldn't go with Riewoldt and this was something that was not previously an issue for Cale.

Dempsey was terrible and I'd be disgusted if he got votes for high possessions/SC score.

Someone was saying that the call to move Hardingham forward came too late but we needed him down back to deal with St Kilda's dangerous small forwards. It was a call that should not need to have been made.

There isn't really much else to say.

That was even worse than the Melbourne game. Piss weak everywhere.

Hooker - pantsed
Midfield - pantsed
Forward-line - what forward line?

First time I've left early in years. Disgraceful.

On the list of things not to do after that loss, those would probably be #1 and #2.

Heppell - Get some f**king awareness! Way to many times is he caught standing still with the ball.

In terms of people who really were shit, Jetta seems to have inherited Davey's fumbling technique, and Reimers' softness continues to be kinda a big issue. Limply toeing at a ball that you would have to go to ground to mark is just crap, honestly.
