Chapman just played on a 6 goal small forward. I liked the post where Rachelle's goals were looked at, and I don't hold Chapman responsible, but I'm also not convinced he is the best option.

Yeh I noticed that, pretty sure Rachelles match up was Chapman.

Lockdown on small forwards typically has been Logue.

Some lessons for Chappo , but assume his first job was rebound, rather than lock down, with rebound where appropriate.

Back line is a work in process as is the Mid as is the FWD component of the team

Still a bit of work to do from my view!

Unfortunately it almost cost us the game, and then miraculously won it for us. 4 very handy points in the bank.

Saints are $2.75 to win. I just threw $50 at it. $137.50 return.

Yep..... If you learnt about my ways of dealing with teams i hate, i put money on them so i win either way.

Freo win i lose $50. Freo lose i get $137.50.

Half tempted to throw another $50 on it.

Saying that i rather lose $50 or $100 and see freo win.

Fremantle vs. St Kilda, Optus Stadium, 6:20pm (AEST)

Team news: The Dockers should welcome back skipper Nat Fyfe. The 2015 Brownlow Medal winner missed Round 1 with a shoulder injury. The club has earmarked Round 3 for Matt Taberner's (hamstring) first game. Both Nathan Wilson (shoulder) and Matthew Johnson (foot) will undergo fitness tests. For the Saints, Paddy Ryder, Jack Billings, Jarryn Geary and Dan Hannebery are all set to undergo fitness tests of their own.

ESPN tip: Dockers by 11 points.

Wow, ESPN's chief writers must live in an alternate dimension, where Matthew Johnson didn't just recently undergo surgery on his foot! Hahahaha

Clark has said he wants to play back not on the wing. Leave him there. Young, Chapman or to a lesser extent walker need to develop into the wing role.

"Clark said he preferred to play across half-back but was also open to a wing role and Fremantle have identified a need for speed in both positions."

The end result of what you are saying is that we are in development mode not contention mode. That would be a major disappointment.

It should immediately end Walters career too as he has been carried for quite a while and we should be developing other options.

Henry played wing towards the end of last season. Aish has shown he is a better option right now. Colyer too. Blakeley even. Crowden. O'Driscoll.

The only justification for playing Meek is if Darcy is not available. It significantly reduces our chances of winning.
Our goal is long term success which requires us to develop playeds accordingly. I don't see us being a flag threat until all three of our draftees are best 22. I'm all for cutting deadweight.

To be fair, he didn’t say Johnson was likely to pass his fitness test.

Been keeping a close eye on Walters while watching the replay. The stats don't show the impact he had. First quarter, he was directly responsible for two goals: one from a sublime, pinpoint kick inside 50 to a Lobb lead; the second from a tackle that allowed Schultz to pounce on the spilled ball and goal. Second quarter, he fared less well against the basic indicators, but there were a number of occasions where he contested the ball and "went to ground" or came up empty handed, but in the course of doing so pushed the ball to the clear advantage of a teammate or drawn two (three on at least one occasion) opposition players, leaving unopposed Freo players to go on the offensive. Excellent crumb off marking contest with quick-fire handball to Mundy for a high kick to space at the top of the square, perfect for Treacy but unfortunately spoiled by Banfield who had his own eyes on the prize. Did give away a free when he smacked his mouth against a Crow head as he threw himself into a pack.

Am only up to half-time so far. I personally think "passenger" is way harsh. He's in it much more than the headline stats suggest. If there were a stat for possession-assist or halving a contest to advantage, so to speak three-quartering a contest?), he'd rate pretty highly, I reckon.

O'Driscoll and Walker are draftees too. I'm not suggesting don't develop draftees. I feel as confident in those two equalling the production we have been getting out of Henry.

The Club's stated goal is success in the next couple of seasons. And if they don't have a plan to play finals while Fyfe is still viable they have stuffed up.

We never ever make wholesale changes after a win under any circumstances. Agreed there's no way Walters, Henry and Banfield can survive in the same side.

Aish, Colyer and Walker deserve to be in that line up ahead of a few others.
I agree that how things work.

Bad thinking for me.

Each player should be look at in an individual performance and contribution to team structure.

If we win by one point or lose by one point, there isn’t much difference in performance.

I wish Walters play like Duffy in the girls team.

In contest situation she keeps her feet, tries to push the other player off the ball and waits for the opponent to fumble the ball.

Instead Walters tries to milk a free, goes to ground and the opposition get the ball.

Will be interesting to see how Benning goes, Seems very important due to his height and skill set.
For all the Lobb concerns without him we look too small.
Same for Pearce, we really lack key position depth.
Interesting that both Bazzo, Williams with the so called WC injury crisis, Dixon is the one playing.
Patience is the key. but I'd suggest its not 3 but 5.

He broke a bone, they decided not to go for surgery, it was always going to be a slow recovery but probably didn’t want him to have a plate in his foot before he has played a single game
They did surgery in the end. Waited a few weeks initially and with minimal recovery pushed ahead with surgery.

He's not, our backline is too tall. If Young/Clark are the rebounders we need a lock-down small defender which I think should be Walker. That leaves Ryan/Cox/Pearce/Logue. Obviously one starts on the bench.
Out of curiosity where has the idea of Walker as a lock-down defender come from?
I haven't personally noticed him play this role, more the dashing half back.

A lot of signs of promise, but he hasn't been nearly involved as Wilson on average from the games I've seen.

Not sure if you can have a player like Hamling unable to get a game as well as Cox a capable forward and Logue and Chapman playing on smalls and still be claiming we lack substantial key position depth. We lack flexibility in how we use them.

Cox forward
Hamling to defence
Chapman wing
Walker to defence
