Round 2 The Sydney Swans vs The Hawthorn Hawks

I think the best thing to take out of tonight is how well our young guys played, White and Meredith had pretty good games (White especially). I hope we can play like that all year!!:)

Great win from the boys!!

Thought we showed great fight tonight especially after looking shaky early on there in the 1st quarter. Great display from Bolts and LRT down back keeping the Roughead and Buddy quiet.

Jolly was dominant with good support from White who was impressive, I think he is coming along nicely in the position he has been given.

Kirk had another of his special games. Completely negated Mitchell. The midfield as a whole showed a great turn around from last week, lots of pressure and tackling.

BBH is starting to look dangerous again, i'll forgive him for that brain fade in the 2nd, he needs to be a bit more selfish sometimes and just go back and kick them. Hopefully he's ok, I think he was just sitting most of the last quarter out as precautionary.

Goodesy had a great game, esp the last quarter he turned it on when we needed to put them away.

All in all very satisfied. I know the hawks had a injury depleted side but nevertheless if we play like this we'll be in the mix for the 8 again this yeah.

Carn the bloods:thumbsu:

apart from the woeful un-manned first half of the first quarter, it was a great effort by the swans

plenty of great individual performances..... but can't say anyone had a really bad game

great start.... footy had started tonight, and it was a cracker! :)

After the first 5 or 10 minutes I thought we were going to be on the end of a flogging - disposal was again poor, Hawks looked dangerous and worst of all, there was no tackling pressure or intensity. But after half time everything just clicked.....the Hawks were undermanned for sure, but that was still a great win and a real 'bonus' win - not one we really would have expected when you look at the schedule. Hopefully it kick starts a good season.

A couple of brief thoughts....LRT - I've been one of his biggest critics, but he was excellent tonight and looks safer and more assured in defence than ever before...I don't know what happened to him in the offseason but I'm impressed. Meredith did well in his first game - wasn't outstanding but didn't do anything wrong either and looks a good player. I hope we persist with him.

Grundy had a decent game, but I still don't know why we are using him as a defender. I think he has more to offer up forward......Jesse White needs to be used as a target up forward a bit more as well, especially since we are so light up there.....and finally, Jarred Moore - this guy is really overrated. He did a couple of good things in the second half, but he makes some poor decisions and looks off the pace sometimes. He has some talent I guess, but why he's in the leadership group is anyone's guess. Just my opinion.

Absolute gem of a game. Goodesy looked fit. Malceski's infallible boot is back, bird showed good composure. Hall injury concern hopefully nothing serious. Jolly enjoy that new tv it's so well esrnt. Looks like I'll eat my words I was expecting a flogging

BUT MY FINAL PRAISE GOES TO BRETT MEREDITH IN SHORT SHORTS!
Didn't get to many opottunities when he was playing in the first quarter as hawks dominated looks like a plus one fifty gamer for us barring injury. He was so good I think ANZ Stadium should be called MEREDITH Stadium

I'm a little bias though ehehehe

They went on about renouf in the ruck and being a ten gamer but white had him covered pretty in his favour I rekon... I like him he seems like his got attitude haha

Fantastic win. The Hawks were well down on manpower, but geez a win is a win. Barry was great (hope the injury isn't too bad?), and Jolly unreal. White really looks the goods upfront and in the ruck too. I think the criticism of Moore was a bit harsh, but he was quiet. So many good performances too. Like most others I was pretty glum halfway thru the first quarter, but they really pulled it together. Bolton was amazing on Franklin, but not much ball came his way either...Shaw had a pretty good game last week in a losing side, but this week was great. His pace round back is much needed. I feel so much better!!

Good win by Sydney, I like the even spread that we had. In recent years we've been carried by phenomenal efforts from Goodes and Kirk, but there were good players all over the place tonight. Really good to see LRT stepping up lately, a second quality tall forward like Roughead is the sort of player I could imagine kicking 5 or 6 against us.

I dunno stat that north Melbourne one was a beauty

This was more satisfying in a way, but the North game was a beauty for the sole reason that it was North we won against. Convincingly.

shaw.... another awesome recruit, just add it to the collection

who even needs kennelly, or malceski playing in defence..... mattner and shaw are all we need.... most run off half back line in a while

I prefer the trademark comeback wins, the most recent I can recall being the Fremantle one where Goodes kicked 8. Amazing match.
West Coast, coming back from 40-odd down at half-time for Bolton to kick one in the dying seconds?

Trumped the Freo one for me.

+ The Malceski Golden Foot is creeping back (hopefully).

Yeah I know mals gun kicking is back.

But I'm being realistic can't get to carried away after one round win

****ing UNBELIEVEABLE win! I gave us absolutely no chance tonight but we played ultra hard, ultra smart and finally kicked straight! McVeigh, Goodes, Jolly, Bolton, LRT, Shaw and Kirk were outstanding, with good support from everyone else (Moore excepted - very disappointed). Meridith didn't look out of place and White was very solid. Thought we lacked a quality crumber at times which Veszpremi would provide nicely.

Outstanding effort. Gives me some much needed excitement about the future of the club.
