Autopsy Round 24, 2024 - Saints defeat Boos

Crushing other teams dreams is loser mentality. We aren't making finals, how does other teams hurting help us? We are the loser who gets enjoyment out of other people's misery because we never achieve anything ourselves.

We need to do the best for us and winning wasn't the best for us. In fact, today did nothing but push us further away from a flag and I want to bloody well see one in my lifetime.

Say goodbye to the elite guys pushing for a #1 pick spot in FOS, Jagga, Smillie, Lalor or Draper. May as well have pick 15 now. Only difference between the team that actually has 15 and us is they'll be playing finals.

Again, zero enjoyment from winning in August when it means nothing but a flattering win loss record in a season that let us all down.

Absolute amateur hour if we are celebrating anything from this year and embarrassing to let other clubs live in our heads so much that seeing them lose means more than securing one of the elite draftees for our future.

Makes me sick seeing Filth supporters and the likes celebrating this win, pathetic. If we ain't in the finals we may as well be last. I'm sick of this I truly am, we never do what's best for us.
So to break our loser's mentality, by your reckoning, we should have lost today?

Bit of a paradox

Everyone laughing can go and get ****ed. Honestly, think of the bigger picture. Years of mediocrity has us celebrating a nothing win cheering on on others misery. Nothing to be proud of winning when it doesn't count. We've shot ourselves in the foot but excuse me for interrupting the little circle jerk of supporters who want to celebrate winning a nothing match as though it's our Grand Final. I'm embarrassed, I want a flipping flag, I want the best chance at getting a flag - today hurt those chances. I've followed the draft closely this year, we shot ourselves in the foot and we are happier to see pain on other people faces because they hurt us in the past when we were crap.

I'm ****ing done, enjoy your ****ing mediocrity and making fun of posters who actually give a shit about winning a flag. Have a parade down St Kilda road for today's nothing ****ing win, enjoy the fact we are now worse off with a flattering record that doesn't reflect our train wreck of a season.

**** it, I'm done, enjoy the laugh at my expense. Laugh at me the way you are laughing at the bullies, we really showed them... adios, this shit isn't worth it.
cool story brah, catch ya on the flipside

So would you rather we finish eighth, go out in straight sets and have an even worse draft hand?

To those of you having a meltdown over us shifting back to pick 7 from pick 5

Toby Greene - Pick 11
Nat Fyfe - Pick 20
Tom Stewart - Pick 40
Lachie Neale - Pick 58
Max Gawn - Pick 34

Hell
Patrick Dangerfield - Pick 10

these are all most would say at there peak A grade destructive game changing players and top 5 players in the game at some stage or another
Give me a winning culture over loser mentality like some of you are preaching.
That win today was done in as hostile of an environment as any of our kids have ever seen.

Great win today. I'm a big believer that the benefit of winning a game like that is far more valuable than a slightly better draft pick.

Looking forward to watching you next year.

That guernsey was pretty mint too.

I won't mention the usual suspects but when that next tier of players like Jones, Dow, Clark and Byrnes all play like they did today we look so much better. Looks like things really started to gel as the season went on, and having this group fit and firing makes a huge difference. Good signs there

You want to think bigger BIGGER PICTURE.

Setting up a winning, not giving up, competitive culture goes much further then getting one pick ahead.

The win does so much for Pou, Wilson , Naz, Garcia, even coops. Our backend momentum and the improvement from Zones, Skunk, Pou , etc shows that Ross can get guys to improve. We’ll get the player we get.

I guarantee dalrympal will take a bolter anyways.

Good teams don’t lose to gain one extra spot.

It also causes harm to young players who want to compete and win.

The difference in draft position is negligible. There have been plenty of top draft picks that haven't gone on to have great careers. There is still has an element of luck when picking players.
Even still, the picking of a player is only a part of whether that player becomes a good pick or not. Clubs have a huge role in turning 18 year old kids into AFL players. Some of the more talented kids don't make it and that can be a result of how they were handled by their club.
I would imagine it would be a lot easier developing a young player into a side that is winning and enjoying their footy than a club coming off multiple beltings at the end of a season. We'll also be more likely to have those players resign and stay with us as opposed to looking elsewhere.
Playing to win may also attract more players during the trade period.
Overall I think that the way we've gone about it at the end of the season outweighs being 2 draft spots higher than we could have.

How good has Mason Wood 🪵 been for this club???
We should never forget what he’s done and what a good player he’s been.

I get what you’re saying. If we lost, no problem … we improve our draft pick

But you don’t want a losing culture to even get a sniff … we should always play to actually win.

Are you done done, or just done?

Wanting to lose to preserve those picks is pathetic stuff. That sort of mentality is bad for football clubs, and does more harm than the good whatever players picked at those spots would do.

North Melbourne did the right thing winning late last year, St Kilda did the right thing winning tonight.

Winning doesn’t ever set a club back.

Hey there mate. Good to see you
