Went to the game tonight and all I have to say is...wow
Yes it was disappointing to lose, but as a football fan, it was exciting to see a team rip it's opposition to shreds on every line, forwards, mids, backs. What a performance, everyone played their role perfectly, reaction time was sharp, intensity was incredible. Buckley was out-coached considerably.
Haven't had time to sit down and watch the replay properly but surely there isn't any negatives you guys took away from this game?? Looking down the stat sheet you can take positives away from everyone's performance, Judd/Murphy combining for almost 80 positions, Kreuzer's rucking clinic, Armfield's courage for jumping back into the play as he was running off (which was a personal highlight for me)
Carrots absolutely destroyed pendlebury and has continued his brilliant start to the year. So pleased to see him doing so well as he's copped a lot from people in the past about not being up to standard.
Just got home and have finished downloading it (thanks zee) now to sit back and watch again. Does anyone else think it's a bit shit foxtel put the replay on straight away, so people who were there miss most of it. Really need a foxfooty +2.
Not many serious clangers by the team but one that stood out....Kruze marking in the goal square and playing on. Players must learn thats not on. I thought we had a team rule against it.
I think its called the "Setanta Clause"
In hindsight would the fans have still wanted Bower ahead of Thornton knowing that Bower played 50& of the game as a forward?
Some opposition supporters have asked me over the preseason whether our best players are going to continue at 2011 level or improve in 2012. They questioned whether Gibbs will take the next step and if Judd can continue at his stellar 2011.
My answer then and is now: It's not our top 6 or 10 that will take us to the next step. They can take care of themselves and as a group will feed off each other's success.
In my view the major development to take us from 5th place and well into the top 4 is how our bottom 6 or so players develop. Well tonight, the contribution across the park was very even and heart warming for those of us who hung in during the Dark Years.
It is so pleasing to see the players who are not walk up starts in the 22 really contribute to the team performance. I am thinking here of players like Tuohy, Armfield, Curnow. Even Kane Lucas who was subbed off did some very nice things.
The only one I have questions about from tonights display is Paul Bower. I like him personally, a really nice guy. But out of the 22 I think we got the least out of him tonite. Maybe he will snap back to his form of earlier years (2009 or 2010?), and I hope so. But at this stage it is about getting the 4 points. And in this regard, Thornton offers more than Bower.
But if that selection is the only issue I can identify, then we are in a pretty good place. And you can't help but love it and bask in giving the other mob a reality check.
No.
Thornton can legitimately play both back and forward but Bower cannot.
Wasn't happy with Jamo being made to play forward either. He is nearly an AA fullback. FFS play him there.
I am downloading the game now to watch it again... I loved Army's effort while he was hobbling off. Just go to show how dedicated he was to the game.
Dramoth, I'm just wondering what site you download the game from?
