Little bit worried...

Caesar at PRE said Cumberland, Graham and Short were in rehab/management, and Prestia checked out early after speaking to the conditioning guys.

Dusty and Hopper trained, but would be s**t to regain them but not have possibly all four of the above.

Can anyone remember when the last time was that we had our best 22 together? Seems like we've copped an injury every week since 2019.

Anyway, hopefully nothing to worry about. Anyone got any goss?

Missing 2-3 of our best-22 each week is a pretty good result when you look across the league. On Friday night we had 6 out, and that was the problem.

Unfortunately Dogs this week only have Weightman out of their best-22, so if we get up it’ll be a very good win.

Yup agree - a bit each way and maybe a more accurate result would have been a 25 point loss or something.
LOTS of teams gonna be beaten by Pies by more than 25 points this year.

& considering they are flying and the pressure they were pummelling into our back 50, to give up just 63 points for the game has been under-reported IMO.

Our defenders were heroic!

The ‘predicted score’ showed it should’ve been 76-53.

We worked inside their zone and we couldn't get any spread on the outside because we didn't work the ball around. Not once did we switch, not once did we kick to the left hand side of the ground after a point. Pretty easy to defend, mark your man and anticipate where the ball was going to go if you do the same thing all the time.

We tried some short dry weather passes that were chopped off, but not once did we get Balta to launch it over the centre of the ground kicking out from full back. Not once did Vlastuin kicking out from full back kick to the fat side, even when we were the widest and on our own. It was played to a game plan which was very predictable.

The complete unwillingness to switch the ball pissed me off. We just worked down the line comfortably within the Collingwood zone until we ran out of room then we just kicked it long.

Didn’t change anything the whole game and lucky we didn’t lose by 100. We were miles off.

Ins - Dusty, Short, Sonsie, Hopper, Miller

Outs - Ralphsmith, Young, Ross/Cotch,
Clarke/Mansell/MRJ, Samson/Reiwoldt

That’s my team, Miller adds speed and a great kick coming out of defense. Unlucky for Young who’s been fine but Miller is an upgrade imo.

Sonsie looked to be back to full fitness and crushed the VFL, oozes class and skill and must come in either for Ross or Cotch if we decide to manage him.

Hopper, Dusty and Short pick themselves with Ralphsmith a bit unlucky as I thought he was decent vs pies.. I lean towards MRJ and Clarke playing as MRJ is full blown defensive pressure and Clarke super skilled and deserves another game as Mansell has had a couple and is just serviceable.

And I think the coaches will finally play Dusty and Cumbo together, I mean how can you bloody not?.. Jordan and Pippen eat ya heart out baby!
Therefore either Samson or Jack misses and let’s be honest here, Jack will hold his spot and potentially relief ruck along with Miller.

Thoughts?
Interesting idea…..

id be getting games up into Hugo, sonsie and Cumbo ASAP if we want to go someplace this year.
players I’d be giving fewer time to.
ross.
rioli jnr
and….an oldie.

Think Dimma deserves a bit of a roast regarding our game plan. I know it was wet but our down the line kicking to the same spot, wide and to the wings was just easy pickings for the opposition. No risk factor at all. Did we switch the ball once to the fat side all game, if we did I missed it.

Our field kicking is below average. We don't have many very good or elite kicks in our side. Vlastuin, Martin, Baker, Riewoldt and D. Rioli is about it. Sonsie will be but when you have a side of average kicks it makes it very hard to take a punt and kick to the centre of the ground or switch it around. Collingwood did it and hit targets all night rain or dry. So we kick it straight up the line, especially in the wet.

Is that Dimma's doing, playing it safe, percentage boring football or did the players just clam up. Even Vlastuin was giving it away.
I keep hearing about Pies being just so clean, have great disposal wet or dry. Interstate so I didn’t watch the game and didn’t see for myself and I normally attend every game in Victoria.
But looking at the final outcome, given our skills were absolutely woeful, the tactics just as bad, and Pies are so highly skilled (according to many on here) how come we were not annihilated by 60+ points? And don’t give me they had 9 more shots at goal as 5 were rushed and we had no rushed scores. and we were within 3 points midway through the third quarter.

Don't get all the gloom and doom after 3 games, yep only 3. Plenty of time to hone the game plan and get players in to form, as we’ve done lots of times in past seasons.

Agree, it's round 3 and they are being nominated as flag favourites which is nonsense.
The half time score flattered us somewhat, but once the weather cleared up we worked our way back into the game. Pies have a very good midfield but their forward line would be one of the worst in the league. They are the press darlings at the moment but that can change quick enough. Melbourne were undefeated after round 10 last year.

Yes,we played absolutely shocking first half with half a team in but held our own second half.

Pies celebrated like they won the flag while we lit up a cigar.

Thanks for the feedback as I didn’t see the game at all.
Sounds like we get a few of our (crucial) players back, and refine that game plan, as even Jack alluded to on the video you posted, we should be right up there with any luck.
I honestly think we are still one of the teams to beat but don’t want us to leave our run too late. However, we are only three games into a long season at this point.

Pies put the cue in the rack for all but about seven minutes of the second half.
God help whoever plays them this week, they'll be as fresh as daisies.
They were very well managed.

He did more than Cotchin on the weekend. Time to use Cotchin as a burst player. I don't want to see Cotchin fade into a "has been" that's played on for too long. I want to see him dominate even if it's just for a half.
Unbelievable comment. I asked people what his role was and most said he played Hoppers role. If that was the case then his game was abysmal.

Was surprised he had 23 disposals as he seemed invisible. had 11 kicks and most were just dinky little kicks to no great advantage. Just 2 tackles just 4 contested possesions and had an okay 3 clearances.
He is not clean enough or quick to play outside and certainly is no inside player atm and never has been.

By contrast i thought Cotchin very solid. Has not dropped off at all he still wins clearances still get plenty of contested ball and gets enough ball when he has decent game time.

Im wondering why we are playing battlers like Ross in front of kids like Sonsie and others.

That’s it Jack,keep the boy’s club honest.

Who was that umpire? Need to call these campaigners out by name. AFL is certainly not going to make them accountable. Should also investigate his betting accounts if they are going to influence games like that - it's not like it hasn't happened before.

Not bad considering our sputtering start. Grimes not in top form, debuting a key back in Young and Broad missing a game. Baker, Vlaus and Rioli playing solid and Balta having a breakout start to the season. Things are never quite as bad as they seem. The Collingwood game could and maybe should have been a blowout but we contained it and could even have stolen it. Good showings over the next two weeks could set up our season and allow us to give our +200 gamers a rest.
IMO grimes and jacks form a worry
Jr8 in particular, his opponents are having a marked impact on the contest
R1 young , near bog
R3 Darcy Moore
Sooner rather than later Bauer should get an oppo in his spot

I didn't notice Darcy Moore at all during the game. Didn't seem to have any impact. Conversly Jack kicked 2.1 and was equal highest goal kicker on the ground in a low scoring game. Bauer would have struggled to get a touch in that game.

Just looking at his stats Moore had 7 disposals and 2 marks - his quietest game in 5 years (other than when he got injured in R7 V Suns in 2021 and r17 2019 v Eagles).

Still reckon Jack has plenty to offer over the winter months. The senior bodies will play this early block of tough games to try to get us to 3 or 4 wins out of six (maybe 3.5) and then they'll start resting them. The kids will get plenty of opportunities as has already been shown. If we're any chance this year tho we need to be
well better than 50/50 win/loss at the bye. If Bauer keeps piling on the goals he will get his chance.
