That wasn't a throw the baby out with the bathwater performance. That was a completely demolish the entire bathroom with a wrecking ball, and punt the baby into a lake performance.
thinking to that time in the gameday thread after Q1 I said "we are a team totally capable of losing after kicking close to 50 points in the first term."

Did lol

The game plan does not stack up

It never has stacked up and It will never stack up against the best.

We are wasting our time.

Why can’t the board see this.
They can see it. But because Hinkley has been clever in splintering the playing group away from the rest of the organisation with his Daddy routine, they fear a player exodus if he’s sacked (the CEO’s words, not mine). So they’d rather maintain the status quo. How toxic is that shit.

I cant wait to watch this game when the AFL uploads it.

I generally only watch the replay when we win. I couldn't manage to watch last week's and I suspect the same will be true of today's.

I guess if I had seen last week's I'd have been more prepared for our fragility when it matters.

Review of the second ruck 'experiment':

Sweet and Soldo had a combined 13 touches (Soldo averages 11.4 on his own) and 4 marks
Sweet and Soldo kicked a combined 0.0
We lost the clearances
We got walloped in the centre clearances
We lost the game
And Soldo has played 94% gametime, so we didn't even succeed at giving him a rest.

An abject failure on every level, as it was always going to be. Turns out I'm not just some hysterical pessimist, I'm just a person who watches football and is capable of pattern recognition. Shoutout to everyone who tagged me in the changes thread like Sweet getting picked was some sort of win.
That had absolutely nothing to do with the 2 rucks lol. This sits well and truly on the mids. After quarter time they went completely missing. Rozee was the worst of the lot. Butters had about 3 touches for almost 2 quarters and JHF just sat up forward or sat on the bench (good job Hinkley you ****head).

There was a large number of taps that went straight to us that the mids just fumbled, ran over the top of and tried to kick out of the air and missed completely. We lost the clearances and contested possession due to them, nothing at all to do with the rucks.

It certainly wasn’t a success, but it is almost impossible to judge because of how piss poor our midfield group was.

How on earth can we have a player exodus unless we're stupid enough to write contracts that have that option in them (don't answer that, we probably are :()? These are privileged young men, doing what they love for salaries most of us can only fantasize about, and only have to work 9 months a year (8 at Port). They're not risking all that to jump ship with the biggest losing coach in A/VFL history (only 5 weeks to go until we get that trophy folks).

Dixon playing would have made no meaningful difference. Our mids got massacred. We lost contested ball by 40. We need to figure out why the gap between our mids’ best and worst is so enormous.
Whilst I agree that it wouldn’t have made a difference as the midfield was particularly poor.

But anyone who could have taken or influenced a marking contest on centre wing would have been appreciated. To stop Moore and co just picking them off

It felt like a 100 point loss, even though it was less then 40, so I guess that's a positive 🥲
It was 39-8 after 15 minutes. From then it was 42-115 with them kicking 16.19, so, yeah, if they'd kicked straighter there's your 100 point loss. The positive is it's round 6 and not a PF.

Unpopular opinion: Connor Rozee is just a flashier version of Ryan Burton. He played scared today, & wilted away as soon as the intensity started to lift.

Much is made of our star studded midfield, but we were once again belted in clearances and contested possessions. They look unstoppable in the downhill sections, but fall apart as soon as the gradient increases. No resilience, no metal, no resolve, no fight, just a whole lot of nothingness.

The clubs in a perpetual state of disrepair, & the rot starts at the head.

I'd rather be in complete rebuild with a coach on training wheels than this neverending horseshit

The amount of times we've had this kind of piss soaked performance over the past 10 years and the club just completely gives it the tick of approval. Nothing to see here, onto next week, next season, etc.

Just pick up a couple more B graders in the off season. That'll make the difference

He didn’t play scared. He just played shit. There is big difference. His worst game in a long time. He just fumbled everything. It happens. Everyone has a shit game, even the best. This is a massive overreaction by you. He has been incredible all year.

He didn’t play scared. He just played s**t. There is big difference. His worst game in a long time. He just fumbled everything. It happens. Everyone has a s**t game, even the best. This is a massive overreaction by you. He has been incredible all year.
How did he go in last year’s finals?

Carn, you’ve let Connor off too lightly. If he wants an off-game, make sure it wasn’t this one.
