Re: Wet weather hampson

Hampson is a good tap ruckman.
I'll suggest that he is also better than Kreuzer in this department.

I do hope that for the investment we have put into him, that we now back him for at least the next two years, and in between that time he'll just have to stay open to a little abuse from supporters.

Things will come together forr the big unit. Just need a little more time.
I can't help but think how good he would be up forward if he could hold a grab and kick straight. He's built and knows how to maneuver his way in from of a man (ruck experience). All he needs is a bit more experience and form. With Warnock and Kreuzer to take most of the ruck duties, I'd give him a year in the Ants and plonk him at full forward and tell him to just mark and kick the footy.

Re: Wet weather hampson

True, but he'll need to get a move on.
One, Luke Mitchell may well take that opportunity away from him.

With Kreuzer and Warnock up and about, where would that leave Hampson?

This stuff will start getting harder by the week.
That's why I think we should make the call sooner or later. Hammer in the ressies with Mitchell both developing in the forward line. By the time Waite moves on from footy, Mitchell should be well and truly ready to come in. With Hendo at centre half forward and Mitchell at full forward, we've got Hampson as a third tall option (our McCarthy to Collingwood's Dawes and Cloke, for example).

One of the perks of having a mad Carlton supporter for a girlfriend is that footy is a given. :thumbsu:

Mine has no interest in footy at all, but as a Sydney girl she feels obliged to go for the Swans. We have been together for about 10 years and they have done us over nearly every match in that time. She rubs it in too. How much does that suck?

On a happier note, a compromise regarding tonight has been reached: she is going to a girls get together to watch the wedding and I am watching footy at home. Best part is as I am babysitting I don't lose brownie points. Reckon they should send me to the Middle East to bring peace over there too.

Back to the match:

Army definitely for Yarran for mine if need be, but switch Gibbs to hbf and have Army in a negating role in the middle. AJ sub again.

I think we should play AJ on Goodes and have Army as sub if Yarran's out. Go hard for the first half and bring on Armfield early in the third to bring some more pace.

AJ on Goodes? Are you sure?

Sooner alternate White and Russell and double team him when forward.
If we can minimize his scoreboard influence, I'll take that as a win.
I wouldn't mind seeing AJ get the gig. He has shut down some of the best in the competition; the least AJ could do is is make Sydney play Goodes as a forward if he's not getting a touch.

Have a good feeling about this one, reckon we;ll get up.:thumbsu:

Go Blues
Yep, same here. I get the feeling that we're going to pull something out of our back pockets.

Constant rain up in Sydney now. Looks like it'll be a real slog tonight on the SCG. Stoppages even more critical

In all seriousness, AJ gives away a lot of height to Goodes. If they get Goodes one out with AJ in the forward line, Goodes will towel him up. See the round 5 game versus Geelon last year. AJ was aerially exposed against Ablett in the forward line. Is it silly to think carazzo may run with Goodes?

It is highly unlikely Hampson will ever make it as a effective key forward at senior level, his marking is deficient and he lacks the smarts required to be a long term forward, we would be much better served focusing our energy developing Mitchell & Henderson who are both natural forwards, hopefully Mitchell can overcome his shoulder issues.

Hmmm. If it's wet, that means Hampson's high marking and clean conversion won't be nearly the weapon it usually is....

Sydney scare me in the wet. They are seriously strong at the contest and we'll need to play our absolute best, straight-ahead, keep-it-simple contested footy to beat them. Any fancy-pants handballing around in circles and we're in a world of trouble.

From the sound of things, it's going to be a scrappy affair. Winning the ball in the air will be so much harder for Goodes so his game will depend on his ground game. Either as a defender in the wet or a mid, I think AJ can go toe-to-toe with Goodes. The negative, as you mentioned, is one-on-ones. Being in the wet and on a small ground, this negative is reduced.

goodes will play the majority of the game as a foward tonight, as he has done for most of the time this year. IMO he will play almost all game foward, especially after watching adelaides three talls cutting us up last week - sydney will look to expolit that.

I think laidler or white will have to take hiim with the other going to reid who has been taking a few contested marks this year, jamo will get white when he plays foward i think

White is our man if he is in the forward line, with a bit of help from whoever is at hand to cut in front. Up the ground I don't know. Hasn't Gibbs gone alright oh him before?

If Gibbs plays with the same lack of interest he did last week, I'd want him as far away from Goodes as we can get him.
