Well, we can't applaud our depth, without having some fall-out for it.
As we said earlier in the year, 30 doesn't go into 22.

It also won't get easier when Kreuzer, Bower, Henderson and Houlihan become available.

We may just have ourselves a record delisting/trade period comes years end.
Let's take advantage of the situation we have created.

I guess I'm just crying over spilled milk now, but my interpretation of depth is the best 22 are on the field, and the unlucky ones are pushed out. IMO that isn't the best 22.

However everyone has an opinion and at the end of the day, the MC's one is the only one that counts.

I agree with you on Armfield.

I still feel he'll add more to our structure and for a longer period of time than some others that are currently in the team, but if a player is doing what they've been asked to do and more, after coming into our side, then no-one can begrudge them for being there.

I don't think that Ellard nor Joseph are part of our best 22, but then again I also don't see Toovey and Blair being part of Collingwoods best, but if they keep performing, they stay.

Just the way it falls sometimes.

Blair and Ellard are a perfect comparison. When Blair made his debut last year I think the football public where awaiting his imminent axing. Still waiting.

The Blues’ listed emergencies - Setanta O’hAilpin, Dennis Armfield and the recently-elevated international rookie Zach Tuohy - have all made the flight to Sydney.

Agree with this. The equation means that you have to really do everything right to get picked now: train and play with all the commitment you can muster. Ellard is the example they should all look at. A silly suspension cost him his spot to Curnow, who grabbed the chance with both hands and feet. Ellard kept on doing what he always does, gets another chance and kills it. Now its up to Brock et al to follow suit. Patience is also required because there are only so many chances to come up.

I just don't see the point in naming him when he isn't going to play.. why teams do this is beyond me.

They said they are going to give him until last minute to prove his fitness. .. I assume that means a fitness test tomorrow. ..

If it is really wet in Sydney surely a late change of Irish in for Hammer makes sense.

I would assume the club wouldn't fly Mclean to sydney unless playing so no point naming him as an emergency even though I think he will be in very soon.

Really frustrated they aren't picking him this week as SCG - Wet sounds like perfect game for him.

I am keen to find out if giving away a first round pick is going to be a complete disaster.

Fair call but with a hammy you would know by now if you can play (having done many before of varying degrees).

It was only tightness apparently, not an actual strain. .. I've had tight hammies before that last for a few days and still been able to play the following week. .. You'd suspect that if it is still tight today that he wont be playing, nothing wrong with giving him every chance to come good even if it is unlikely. ..

Am i the only one who may think guys like Armfield being constantly overlooked will inspire a Griggesque situation whereby
1) There might be resentment at being constantly overlooked despite very good performances in the VFL
2) Under appreciation of players due to external influences (rather than just playing good football, etc height, good reputation, being a good guy etc)
3) Playing in the VFL will only reduce his trade value.

if i remember there were stories around that he asked if he could play in the midfield, ala walker asking to play somewhere? i think he had a safer spot playing as a back pocket type. he tries to move to the midfield and the backline spots fill up behind him, now can't break into the team at all.
but for all i know though the coach could have instigated that, or he did after said backline changes were mooted. i'm not sure why he would ask to play in the midfield while it's already stacked.

Surely there is a line where the coach takes control and sticks people were they are required.
I wasn't a fan by any stretch of the imagination, but i did admire Pagan positioning Bryce Gibbs at the Back Pocket (anyone remember :p). Added a real accountability to his game that allows us to play him pretty much anywhere.
Moral of the story: Coaches indicative should prevail.

****ing midget!!

Who cares if we have enough talent there already.

We can't even get Lucas into the team and he would have been selected at 11.
So who would have been 12? Talia?

Move on.

Lets not forget Mcleans best is extremely good and easily would be in our best 12 players, I remember him and Juddy having a great battle a few years ago. The question is can he produce that level of form for us.

I pray he can and if his body is good and his form is good I think the smart play is to get him in and see what he can do.

If he can deliver he could really improve our side.

Lets not forget we need to find some elite talent if going to progress.

Gee Jack Darling looks a friggin player already.... typing will watching channel 10, hope Hendo is watching as he could use this kid to inspire him.

Carlton's pain will be used for gain

Assistant coach Alan Richardson, who crossed from Essendon in the off-season, has noticed a lift in the players' resolve this week and was quick to point out this was a harder, more defensively capable Carlton seven months on.

"In terms of extra motivation there probably is a little bit there, there's no doubt about that," Richardson said.

"It was a game where we got off to a really slow start, played some terrific footy to get back into it and then let it slip. But what we've focused on this year is different to last year.

"It's a very different team and we're playing pretty different footy.

"We identified that to go the next step we needed to change a few things, so the way we play is significantly different, particularly defensively.

"All our numbers would suggest we've improved. We're No.1 in the competition for (not) conceding entries inside 50m and that's a real positive."

Yeah, Brock at his best is a definite starter in our best team, but he will have to get back to his best to break in now. If his body holds up I's sure he'll get there and really really hope he does because he will lift the side accordingly.
