any player who is delisted immediately comes with an asterix next to their head. If he is so incredibly clean and good at shutdown defending, why has he been delisted? (not even worth trading)

He fell out of favour at Carlton despite finishing runner up in their BnF in 2010.
Leroy Brown was delisted. Doesn't mean that Russell doesn't have a role still to play somewhere. He is only 25 and has proven he can play AFL football at the top level- runner up in a BnF as I said.
Personally, I wouldn't be against the club recruiting him. He would be an instant upgrade on Simon Buckley who currently plays that same role. At least Russell can actually defend and has genuine leg speed with penetration in his kicking.

Leroy Brown was an inspired choice, and an anonomly that may not happen again for a long time. Just because Brown worked, doesn't mean we should always look through other clubs garbage hoping to find another anvil.
Russell doesnt fill a need, he isn't young, and would take up list space. If he was delisted there is obviouslly something seriouslly wrong, noone would even pay a 3rd rounder for him in a trade.
If russell is a replacement for buckley then he is already behind young seedsmen and johnson at least for a spot in the team. Why recruit him?

Wowee Jordan Russell. Like Roberton, Pedersen, Tippett and most likely Hickey he is just another name linked to us because it's good for the contract situation. I think we could name a best 22 of players linked to us this year 
The reason he never played was that did Ratten not like him the same with Thornton but I do not the Pies will make a play for him nor should they.
