I'm sure losing Lloyd, Fletcher and McVeigh over the next few years will improve things immensely. If Knights goes too, it might compensate.
Ah crap. Lost my post. General gist was that we have the players to cover the losses except for maybe Fletcher. Lloyd will be around to clock up his 1000 goals. McVeigh is 27 off the top of my head so plenty of years left. The youngsters we have will ensure there is steady improvement at Essendon.

Anyway, O' Keefe is welcome at Essendon.

What are you going to do when he stays in Sydney, gee you will be bored.

He has given you a decade of supreme service and you should not begrudge him wanting to move back home. Your clubs ineptness in not securing a trade is not his fault. Whilst it would be very disappointing for you if a player of his quality was let go for free, the club would be the only one to blame for not securing something for him in this last uncompromsed draft for a number of years.

Exactly

Many of us DON'T!!!!!.... begrudge him that right!

But if your club is prepared to pay $500k+ pa * 4.... but yet offered a lunatic 'done nuffin' trouble child on $250K and not a top pick ....then you don't deserve a super class player either:)

With Hird and Lloyd having been running around in our colours for the last decade we've seen some of the elite talent this competition has ever provided. With O' Keefe it is really a win-win situation. He either comes to us or we have a spot open for another one of our youngsters. I am indifferent either way. Would have preferred to see you get value for him but it is Sydney's fault for next getting a trade done.

Please elighten us all on who will cover the loss of Hird,Lloyd and Fletcher.Hirds already gone and will be exceptionally hard to replace

yeah / Nah

If you mob get him then serves him right!

It send a great message to our players... to be up front , early , and Swans won't be shafted by players or competition!

But the chances of him still being a Swan are high... don't 'pop your cork' yet!!;)

We could accomodate him at Essendon through our Pick 5 in the PSD. Salary cap space is not a problem at all and if we were to be fighting for a flag by 2011, O' Keefe should still have reasonably good form by then. At that stage of the draft much of the talent would be gone and we would be wise to take a proven performer like O' Keefe over a youngster who is more then likely to fail. Certainly warming to the prospect of snaring O' Keefe for free.

So basically, he was old and falling apart before trade week, and not worth trading value for.

Now it is Sydney's fault we have lost a player of O'Keefes calibre for nothing, because we could not get a suitable trade (when it is your club that could not give us a suitable trade).

Now you're happy to take him for free, and suddenly he has become a valuable player who is likely to be playing in your 2011 premiership assault :)p:p:p).

You blokes are as bad as Carlton.

Our list is young enough to accomodate his experience and he happens to be an extremely talented footballer also. Having been chosen in the AA squad shows that he is still in very good form. No doubt you have your reasons for deriding Essendon's youth policy but the truth is that you would love to be in our position where the list is only going to improve

You are probably not in any better position than we are.
Scott Lucas is 31
Matthew Lloyd is 30
Dustin Fletcher is 33

The test will be how good your 'youth' is, not how much of it you have. We have the benefit of bringing younger players into the side whilst we are still in the finals (certainly did in 2008), and thus giving them a winning mentality.

You forget that your coach still has to teach your team defense, because you won't win any premierships with your current gameplan.

It seems from all articles going around O'Keefe is still interested in the move, and that he's just afraid of whether the move is possible. I think he meets with Essendon this week, and we will make it clear to him that we will put a price tag on his head that means no inter-state club will take him when he doesnt want to be there. I was pretty unconfident before, but it's begin to look like it could actually happen.

Please elighten us all on who will cover the loss of Hird,Lloyd and Fletcher.Hirds already gone and will be exceptionally hard to replace

Well, our forward line is already packed full, so Lloyd won't be hard. Our midfield has alot of players coming through, and Ryder will probably replace Fletcher. I don't think he was saying we necessarily have anyone of the same calibre, coz the three men are/were superstars. We have replacements, but not equals.

The thing about the Essendon list is that is one of depth, as opposed to Carlton's list of a few total guns, which falls away after that. Anyway, this discussion seems to have moved away from ROK...

HOW is it Sydney's "fault"?
What do YOU know that no one else does?
Take your ridiculous theories somewhere else, geez. I've read so many of your posts, tolerating the guff while trying to understand why you and some of your mates are on here basically discussing (read: talking up) Essendon's player list.
From memory you, or one of your ilk, spent most of trade week mocking ROK's demands, mocking Sydney's demands and generally deriding a player clearly in the top 20 or so in the league, and here you are now throwing shite at the Sydney club for not getting a deal done.
Fck off back to Bomberland, clown. Nothing you're now saying has any credibility here.

And for what it's worth, ROK will stay at Sydney rather than take his chances in the PSD and leaving the Swasn with nothing, while possibly going to a club such as yours that has no earthly chance of a premiership in the near future.

Apology to the younger ones... if you have never heard Jackson Brownes - "Stay" ( I think the albumn was "Running on Empty") then do so!!!

One of the greats moving technically brilliant songs in history...

With apology to Jackson

ROK -Please STAY!

Now ANZ seats are all empty
But in 08 the rookies took the stage
Now ROK to set to pack it up and tear em down
They're usually the last to come and the first to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They're happy ....setting up in any town!!!
This year they played so fine
They waited there in line.

And when bulldog, Vesz & Jarrad got up on their feet,
and made the show, and that was sweet.
and now the sound of slamming doors and folding chairs
and the club song .....will they ever know
So grow a brain and stick with em Champ!
and haul your arses and sign up those pamps!!!

And when it comes to moving you & me,
you know all the guys are all champs
but when that last guernsey has been packed away,
WE know that ROK still wants to play.
So just make think clearly before all set to go
before you come to say sina-naro

But the Swans are on the bus,
and they're ready to go.
We got to drive long all night
And do the show in Carltankago... or Up-perthscoit.
We know, you do so many great shows in a row.
And these footy towns all look the same.
Why just pass the time with the Bumber goons?
and wander around outside the eight.
Till those lights go out, and there aint a loving crowd,
and cry when you remember.... then ....why you came?

Now we got Goodes and boxing on the bus,
Buddhists, we got flooding in 8-tracks and taggers in stereo
We've f*** real teams and not just in magazines
And we've got rid of all *uckers on VB
We got a Richard Pryor at FF da sideshow
You've got time to think of the ones you love
But the paychecks .....will Wall St roll away
but the only time that seems too short is the time that YOU get to play

Fans will have the power over what ROk' does:thumbsu:
or we can sit there and wait??
or ROK can listen to us too.
Come along, sing this song
You know that we can't go wrong
'Cause when that Cheer- Cheer'in comes bring'in thunder down!!
ROK's gonna wake up in our town
And he'll be scheduled to appear
.....not a thousand miles away from here

ROK stay just a little bit longer
We want ya ta play -- just a little bit longer

Now Swan coach don't mind
And your Mrs don't mind
If you take a little time
Don't leave ya career cred all behind.... and sing
One more Swan song !!!!

Oh won’t you stay just a little bit longer
Please, please, please say you will
Say you will!

Oh ROK won’t you stay just a little bit longer
Oh please, please stay just a little bit more
Now the Visy boxers don’t mind
And your oldies don’t mind
If you take a little time
And you leave this all behind and sing
many more Swan songs!!!!

I heard the interview this morning, they asked him all the hard questions, put him under alot of pressure!
For someone who sounds so dopey on the radio, he gave them nothing, he breezed through it!

Alright, I'm going to spend some time breaking down all this garbage you have spewed out.
If Sydney lose O' Keefe for free it will be your clubs 'fault' for not getting a deal done in which you could feel compensated in some way. Not too tough to understand is it......MPB?
I haven't been sprouting my 'theories'. Fact is that you couldn't get a deal done and he wanted to leave. That's fact champ.
I don't know who was deriding O' Keefe but seeing as I respect the bloke and generally like him I would not have been the one belittling him.
You think I care that MPB thinks I don't have any credibility? I couldn't care less what you think. I have tried to discuss trades involving Essendon and for whatever reason I've hit a nerve with you.
Whether we have a chance for a flag in the near future is debateable and I hope he stays at Sydney but facts are that he wanted out and is strongly considering entering the PSD.

nighthawk: I think you will find Swans supporters will have less issue with yourself than this other bloke. He was on here during trade week feeding us rubbish. I think people are just sick of him.
What was the rubbish I was 'feeding' you?

And exactly how were Sydney meant to get a deal done when no other club could be bothered to trade for him?

Your club came out early in the week and said he was too old for you to bother putting an offer for him.

Carlton confessed they were more interested in securing Warnock and spent no time seriously contemplating an offer for ROK.

And whether an offer from Hawthorn was ever really viable is unclear since they wanted him to play for less money than Sydney had offered him and none of us knows whether he was ever going to accept that. "A source close to ROK" claimed he never agreed to terms with the Hawks.

No other club seemed to show any interest.

So if you were Maxfield, how would you have gone about engineering a trade that was worth any more to Sydney than losing him for nothing in the PSD - if it comes to that?

You don't care, yet you're back here trying to explain yourself, and that turns out to be the same boring old shite as before.
Also, you're "spouting" theories, lad, unless they're actually growing at your arse.
You're just another little fool sucked in by the Victorian media and the unbelievable overestimation of your team's talent, which your club's fans indulge in almost endlessly.

As others have said, it isn't Sydney's fault for not making a trade, considering no other clubs would trade with them. You seem to talk alot of nothingness and aren't really contributing anything valueable to this thread. Please stop.:thumbsu: I realise it's a free country, hence why I said please.
