Certified Legendary Thread Sack Hinkley 12 - Finals Are Scary

Imagine if make finals next year (I think that's pretty likely given the talent on the list) and Ken doesn't have a contract. They'll have put themselves in the position where they'll have to (by their logic) give him an extension just like 2023.

Yep.

People said we'd miss the 8 and he'd be gone, but he's only ever a couple of wins away from getting more time.

We've got a lot of talent and we put away bottom 10 teams pretty consistently. If we go into the bye 8-3 or 7-4, sitting in the top 4, and Ken marches into Richardson's office and says he wants a contract extension, there are people at the club who would give it to him, and then we're just hoping we've got the numbers for them to say no.

They had the numbers to give him that absurd 2023 extension.

OK so how do you make stickers that big? where do you go? may as well ask the important questions, maybe it's on the way home from work

Tom Waits lyrics that could be adapted :

One night Frank was on his way home
From work, stopped at the liqour store
Picked up a couple of Mickey's Big Mouths
Drank 'em in the car on his way
To the Shell station, he got a gallon of
Gas in a can, drove home, doused
Everything in the house, torched it
Parked across the street laughing
Watching it burn, all Halloween
Orange and chimney red then
Frank put on a top forty station
Got on the Hollywood Freeway
Headed north
Never could stand that dog

I know I'm going to get slammed once again for this but in an exercise of objectivity...

I'm not at all surprised by this. I've sat at the footy with my head in my hands voicing a frustration at the way we lose and have had those around me say the same thing about the coach and what we were and where we are now. Need to remember this thread is a vacuum of the same people saying the same thing and not necessarily a representation of what the majority of members are thinking.

Go Chiefs.
You're reaction is what 90% of the crowd are doing, the whole game day is flat as because everyone is checked out. The small vocal minority are the ones who are scared of any change and are bizarrely wedded to him. The worst part is these are the same people who will then be in love with the new coach instantly so that are exactly the emotional moron supporters the club should be ignoring but of course they have that back to front.

The real kicker is the person he ran into is 99.9% not a member. These people love to talk about being Port supporters and Ken but they have nothing to lose, they aren't invested. So old guy, heart specialist probably never been to a game at AO let alone have a membership.

I think the argument that Butters et al are wedded to Hinkley is an even bigger reason to sack him now rather than next year when some big names will be coming out of contract.

We need to give the players who have only ever known the cult of Ken a chance to see how much better things could be under a fresh coaching group.
Spot on. It was pointed out by a prominent poster on this thread (at the last AGM) that most players had only ever known Ken as their coach after Koch had said the usual 'But the players luv kenny'. This brainwashing of the players (they literally parrot the same crap Ken does) infuriates me. They're grown men, it's about time they started acting like it.

At the very least they need to announce the succession plan now, with Carr taking over from 2026. Otherwise this will keep on going until Ken dies.

That at least stops us needing to actively barrack against Port next season to have some hope of a flag this century.

Ken will hate it, but bad luck. He's welcome to walk, as Malthouse did.

Dew was pretty much running the Swans on game day while he was there. Have heard that Longmire is not a great game day coach - and has a tendency to 'freeze' in the moment, and not make any moves when things go wrong (sound familiar?).
Horse is lucky that he has had a series of really strong assistants next to him on game day to run the show, Dew being one of them.
This doesn't surprise me at all. The way it played out on GF day clearly reflects this. Players from both teams are also spooked. Both coaches should be sacked for their recent repeated failure. Unfortunately, failing becomes a habit coz it gets in your head & a fresh start is required. It's far more realistic to sack a coach than sack the majority of players.

Not sure this place is that much of a vacuum, 20 odd thousands fans booing Ken a few months ago suggest theres a little more dissension in the ranks...

Yep. These threads were certainly not fully representative of the general supporterbase in say, 2018 or 2019, but now? The vast majority of supporters are ready for a change. The vast majority of watercooler conversations with casuals i've had they've been in full agreement with me.

Not at Port Adelaide 😭

I would think they wait until post BnF for any change. They wouldn’t want that to be the dominant focus of the night.

Heaven forbid any focus on positive changes and looking forward to 2025 determined to finally progress to a bloody grand final, never mind daring to dream of winning a bloody flag, yeah lets just look backwards instead and congratulate ourselves on how many scrubber clubs were behind us this year. Guess that's why it's called backslapping not frontslapping. OK there might be other language-y reasons for that but still snap the heck out of it Portz </slaps entire club in face>

no way are we getting Dew in then, Klinkers will be "I can't have another person more experienced with success breathing down my neck"
