yeh, but what about the public service that isnt directly employed by the government? The past 20 years there has been a huge increase is governments both state and federal getting private companies to do their jobs and dirty work. Its implemented by the private company but paid for by tax dollars. To say the public service hasnt increased much isnt really true when a huge portion is hidden by private employment now days. Mainly because governments dont want to be the ones responsible for employing people if they dont have too and its much easier for them to palm off responsibility to a private company. They effectively are part of the public service because if the government money was removed then their employment doesnt exist.

This happens almost directly because of the constant slagging off of public services.

So instead of getting a solid public service we end up paying parasitic private companies that lower standards, but cost more.

Most of the services that are traditionally done publicly are essential services, and the private companies know this so charge accordingly.

Just like the privatisiation of things like electricity, water and public transport. It never becomes cheaper or more efficient, never.

It isn't for efficiency or effectiveness, it is ideology in action. The problem is, when the 'privatise things' lot get their chances, reversing their catastrophic decisions is all but impossible.

They don't need to sell anything, they've got a captive audience in a duopoly and they know it. So long as they don't completely tank to the bottom of the ladder then it's all good (notice how all decisions appear to be made with this goal in mind).

I'd love to know what this bloke is getting up to on his "extended break" away from the club this off-season.

Safe to assume he's off overseas on a fact-finding mission embedded with the Kansas City Chiefs or Real Madrid, in search of that elusive edge which will deliver Port Adelaide premiership glory in 2025.

They have already started.

The messaging is going to be all about how young our midfield is and look at Brisbane, you just need to keep turning up.

It's bullshit but it is enough for the happy clappers to convince themselves again and that is all they care about.

Clearly the solution is to sack Hinkley.

Matthew Richardson will sprout the same bullsh*t he did last AGM when questioned.
"IF YOU'RE NOT EXCITED ABOUT THE LIST AND THIS SEASON, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU."
If he says it again on December 6, I hope several of us will be there to simultaneously laugh at him.

It’s wild. In 2019 it was “look at Bomber & Geelong, look at Dimma & Richmond”.

6 years later it’s “look at Fages & Brisbane”.

In 2030 it’ll be, “look at Clarko & North”, as if that accurately equates to anything.

In 2030 when justifying Hinkley's latest contract extension David Koch will say "look at Yze and Richmond, look at McQualter and West Coast".

Yep.

Everyone whinges about government wastage but nothing has ever gotten better on being privatised. Not once.

The only people who have benefited are the people who can now charge a premium to provide a worse product for an essential service.

It's absolutely disgraceful.

They'll sell it the way they always sell it. We have a young improving list, we finished 2nd on the ladder last year and don't judge us by 1 game (the Geelong final, they'll claim the Sydney final was an acceptable result).

They know we're treading water at best, they don't care. Winning doesn't matter to these people. We finished 2nd, we'll make the finals again, why change anything?

The thing is, we DON'T judge them by 1 game - we judge them by the fact that we haven't played in a grand final for more than 6000 days, and that number will just keep growing until this perennial loser finally leaves. But obviously the morons in charge are happy to keep watching rival teams running around the MCG on the only day that really matters.

The squad is weaker how do they even sell next year under this clown?
Look, we all know we’ve got a journey ahead of us. We’ve got the spirit, we’ve got the heart, but we’re still building. The potential is there, you can feel it in the air. We’re a solid bunch, no doubt about it, but there’s a lot of room to grow. We need to dig in, put in the time, and push through when it gets tough. The foundation is solid, but the work is far from done. With the right attitude, we’ll get there.

At the end of the day, it’s about showing up. Every single day. The effort is what counts, and we’ve got that in spades. The team is coming together, piece by piece. It’s not perfect, but we’re getting better with each step. There are challenges, sure, but we’re here for it. We know what we need to work on, and that’s half the battle. When we hit those moments of doubt, we just need to keep grinding. We're not there yet, but we're on the right track.

And let’s not forget the young guys. They’re out there putting in the work, and they’ve got bright futures ahead. You can see the spark, it’s there. Sure, they’ve got a lot to learn, but they’re eager, they’re hungry. We’ve got a pipeline of talent coming through, and that’s something to get excited about. We’ve got the foundation; we just need to keep building. One step at a time, one day at a time, we’ll get there. It’s all about the long game.

This would be funny if it wasn't so terrifyingly accurate, almost verbatim.

Dan Houston is a big loss,.
it's only one player though, he could've stayed and done a knee early in season too like SPP did last year and Georgiades the year before. You are never one player away from contending or falling away.

Overall the list should be better, all our good players are entering their primes. The age and experience profile of our list is good.

I get how stale it is with Hinkley remaining as coach but the squad isn't weaker.

Dixon done, Marshall might barely play, Jez is in nowhere land, Lukosius has skill but question marks hover that need to be answered & Houston is gone. Weaker.

Counter-point.
Atkins.
Stronger.
