They were stupid enough to lock in an extension before any real test which has now has l put us in a position where the club is unwilling, at least partially from a financial view, to part ways. Surprising after Koch's previous pin-wheeling about us absolutely being in a position to sack if they wanted to.
Pretty sure we were 3rd when they re-signed him in 2023, coming off a 4 game losing streak they pulled the trigger after beating giants at home. It was proof the spineless gobshites had made their decision weeks before, but as usual were waiting for a win to announce it. flipping whimps, no excuses for that. It's IMO the single worst decision they've made. They should have let him coach for his life that finals series and given his children all the ammo they could to play for him. 2 weeks after being embarrassed in another showdown they chose to sweep under the rug!!!!!!!Obviously there were times between 2016 and 2019 where we could've pulled the trigger too but the most obvious time to part ways was at the end of 2022.
More often than not, a coach doesn't coach through a final year of a contract, they are either sacked prior to the final year or have their contract extended prior to the season or early on in the season to avoid the distraction.
so after an abysmal 2022 after a 2 consecutive home prelim losses, and 10 years at the helm, it was time to shake hands and move on then.
It was always going to be a shit show when we decided to put an August timeline on Hinkley's contract in 2023 and then happened to win 13 in a row and be sitting in the top 2 of the ladder for a fair chunk of the season. Under that set of circumstances they had no choice but to extend his contract and it was all the clubs own doing. Either part ways at the end of 2022 or make it clear at the start of 2023 that they will not be making any decision about Hinkley until after the season is finished.
At this stage though there are 4 coaches up in the air going into 2025; Longmire, Longmuir, Beveridge and Hinkley. So we won't be the only club this time. Longmuir was extended for one season prior to round 1 last year but i doubt that happens again, they will want results in 2025 before they do anything and i expect he will be the first coach to go if Freo are shit early next year. Bevo will be in a very similar boat.
And i expect Longmire and Hinkley will have similar questions raised about succession plans all season if they don't announce anything prior to the season. Obviously Longmire, is the most likely out of the 4 to get a small extension (i would think no more than 2 years) prior to the season starting but it definitely feels like a succession plan could be brewing their too with Cox.
It felt like we were the hot topic in 2023 in the media (mainly due to that stupid August deadline) but there looks likely there will be some other big coaching stories that will unfold in 2025.
yep, that effing August timeline was stupidityPretty sure we were 3rd when they re-signed him in 2023, coming off a 4 game losing streak they pulled the trigger after beating giants at home. It was proof the spineless gobshites had made their decision weeks before, but as usual were waiting for a win to announce it. flipping whimps, no excuses for that. all we can hope for is the manufactured health scare / mental health sob story. saying he's stepping down due to the heavy toll and blaming us for being so harsh is the only narrative I can see working.
If Port were an amateur club (ok, a club playing in an amateur league), and Daddy Donuts were the (not paid) guy in charge of running the canteen on Saturdays for the past dozen years, you'd be actively looking to get him some serious help - at a minimum - but probably replace him altogether because of his refusal to add any new items to the bland menu. "Youse should try one of our Chiko Rolls, mate. Pure gourm-ett. And no, I told ya last year we don't have no onions to go with your sausage on bread.""Go at throttle up"
Stupid is stupid. That is stupid to us but not to them.

Lol. The fat bollardAnd now we would be an extremely attractive option for prospective head coaches but for some reason we feel the need to annoint without due process in Carr, Sutcliffe blah blah blah the list is endless, and keep the fat bollard in charge. It's incomprehensible.

Do you just post on iphone or desktop?
Might be worth shooting Elon Musk a message on X. He is pretty active on there and would have contacts at Big Phone that can sort this out. Can’t be fixed my end, it’s in the hands of the bigwigs.
Oh i'm on a multi year merch ban (aside from heritage stuff) and i've repeatedly taken a "Sack Hinkley" banner to games.
I'd easily spend double the amount on the club I am now if I was engaged. I think a lot of people here would be the same.
But I agree with your general point, they want theatregoers who don't particularly care and just see the footy as a nice thing to do with the family.
You can't spell succession plan without success.I gotta say he doesn't strike me as the accepting of a succession plan type of personality.
And spelling wouldn't be his strong suit. You can't spell succession plan without success.
I’m well aware it’s a relative drop in the bucket against overall revenue, but the club’s decision to put Ken Hinkley on a golden pedestal has probably cost them at least $20,000 from me and my family since the 2021 Prelim.
I heard the Tribeys bought out the entire stock of the ugly xmas sweaters a few years back.20k?? How big is your family?. That is an insane amount of money to spend of football merch.
