This happens almost directly because of the constant slagging off of public services.

So instead of getting a solid public service we end up paying parasitic private companies that lower standards, but cost more.

Most of the services that are traditionally done publicly are essential services, and the private companies know this so charge accordingly.

Just like the privatisiation of things like electricity, water and public transport. It never becomes cheaper or more efficient, never.

It isn't for efficiency or effectiveness, it is ideology in action. The problem is, when the 'privatise things' lot get their chances, reversing their catastrophic decisions is all but impossible.
Definitely agree re privatization lowering standards and being more expensive due to the operators of said companies being very aware they were given a virtual blank cheque by the government of the day that appointed them.

The situation that was picked up by local tv stations and the press some years back in Adelaide which showed a large number of public servants who no longer had a viable role having to attend an office building in the city daily with apparently nothing more to occupy them than to read and play computer games whilst waiting for their maximum pay out date to roll over created a lot of discussion in lunch rooms and smoko areas of the time, and not much sympathy from those in the private system where no work almost always resulted in no job and the dcm, but as you say the original Public Service system was much more efficient than what we have today.

We're better than St Kilda, Freo and Gold Coast is about all we have left.

Both Freo and St Kilda have made grand finals more recently than Port Adelaide.

Certainly historically we are better than these sides but in the last 15 years they've both outperformed us.

Also who knows whether we'll be better or worse.

Houston is a massive loss, but Luko and Pep could be massive gains. We don't know whether our other players will go forward or backward but there certainly is a lot of potential for development for many of them.

What I do know is none of it matters. We could be the best list in the AFL by a country mile, finish the H&A season 16 points clear in first, and still go out embarrassingly in finals. You simply can't win the flag without at least an above average coaching box - we have close to league worst.

ACL aside, what happened to Pep regarding being pigeonholed as a pressure forward?

He served up 20 & 2 as a midfielder against the premiers-elect in his rookie year (2017 remains his career high for total disposals, clearances and tackles), and umpteen preseasons later he’s topped out as an inferior player to the raw Dusty Martin clone who looked like he could be anything.

Ffs, you were probably one of them saying pre game that hawthorn were going to smash us because they were the form team of the comp. Hardly anyone gave us a chance to win that game.

Nope, I said we'd win. I wanted to lose because it probably would have seen Hinkley sacked but I thought we'd win.

The QF losers are always underrated and the EF winners are always overrated.

He was still playing plenty of midfield up to and including 2020. For some reason there was a change of thinking between 2020 and 2021 and he's basically never been seen in the midfield since.

I think SPP is a very good forward and would shine in a better system. He and DBJ are pressure forwards but they are absolutely brilliant in that role and also offer a lot going the other way.

I wouldn't mind seeing SPP attend the odd bounce though.

Hinkley? We were at the SCG in Pep's debut game. Thought he could become anything. Any stagnation in his career, I directly attribute to Hinkley.

I've found the theme song for the hinkley regime. Woods of Ypres - Wet Leather.

Life is just pain and piss, it's nothing that I will miss
Life is just pain and piss, it's just... temporary
Life is the madness of a drunken city night
With wet leather on your back and rain dripping off your spikes
Life is just pain and piss (Piss!)
It's nothing that I will miss (Pain!)
Life is just pain and piss and everything is a scam

I really can't stand people with no perspective and just defend a position like telling their butt ugly kid how hansome they are.
I actually admire your parents for doing that.

Not sending Pep into the middle in big games when we are getting beaten to the first possession or to set a tone to start a big game is criminal.

But there's no point winning the first possession at all if we don't have all our pressure forwards in the forward line for when we bomb it to Charlie and it spills

I think 100% SPP plays midfield time under a good coach.

Under a good, or even barely competent, coach the game plan wouldn't be "bomb it to Charlie".

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but Pep in the midfield and Rozee forward when the heat is on and we need goals would be a strong change up when things aren't going our way.

It seems like a disaster fixture for Hinkley but it's actually a disaster for us, I think we have winnable games everywhere up until the bye.

They'll extend Hinkley's contract when we're 8-3 or 7-4 at the bye and then we'll crash in the 2nd half of the season. I think we'll probably just make the 8, but if Hinkley gets a contract extension we'll likely put our cue in the rack.

I think defensively he looked a little heavy-footed/out of position, I recall thinking at the time that a lot of players were running around him and he wasn't able to impose himself post clearance without giving away a free kick. As far as fitting players in Powell-Pepper had a small amount of CBA's in the first 4 rounds of 2022 and made way to fit Rozee in (Boak and Drew also gave up CBA's).

If he hadn't done his ACL I would love to see how he would go now he's a bit older, maybe with a bit more defensive nous.

Judging by the new fixture, it looks like we've been given a nice sacking zone from round 8 to 17, I can see us being 4-3/5-2 before then so we would probably need to lose 5-6 of the 8 games leading up to the Brisbane game.
