Certified Legendary Thread Sack Hinkley 13 - Another Crack At This

Judging by the new fixture, it looks like we've been given a nice sacking zone from round 8 to 17, I can see us being 4-3/5-2 before then so we would probably need to lose 5-6 of the 8 games leading up to the Brisbane game.

Bulldogs (H)
Showdown
Cats (H)
Dockers (A)
BYE
Giants (A)
Demons (H)
Sydney (H)
Carlton (H)
Lions (A)
Imagine being 0-4 at the bye - Hinkley would be toast

If we start slow (as late finalists often do) we will be in big trouble once the tough part of the draw starts.

Port were also supposed to struggle through the final 5 games of this season, and instead they bloody went 5-0.

It is impossible to determine the difficulty of a schedule in terms of opponents when you consider the evenness of the competition from teams 1 through 13 can win any game on their day.

The key is looking at the schedule in terms of breaks between games that are less than 7 days, how many consecutive games away from Adelaide Oval, timing of the bye etc.

It's a very favourable draw when you consider they only have one 5 day break, some of the 6 day breaks are early in the season and against teams who were in the bottom 4 last year, and despite having 3 away games in a row late in the season, they never play two consecutive games away in consecutive weeks. Top it off with a period where they play 5 out of 7 games at home during the middle part of the season when it's a bit more of a slog, and outside of no friday night spots, it's hard to complain.

We'll save our energy by putting in half-assed efforts until Hinkley's job is on the line and then pull out a big performance that shows that "the players still have his back" or some other bullshit on repeat until he finally decides of his own accord to **** off. No point looking at fixtures or anything else at this point... the bloke's been allowed to fail for 12 years while still leeching money out of the joint. Thinking they won't let him continue to fail through a few more H&A games is fantasy.

We'd have to lose 10 games in a row by plenty for this pathetic club to sack him mid year, as for the 'Josh Carr succession plan' they are just as likely to extend Ken if we meet 'pass marks'. Plug in.

100%. It’s absurd.

Upset win at Kardinia Park for the first time in his entire Port career = “HOW DO YA LIKE KEN NOW?!!”

Record defeat in a home final Port were red hot favourites to win = “ah well, nobody expected us to get this far in the first place”.

Rinse-repeat.

Complaining about the draw is just excuse making.

A bit like saying "The H&A season was easy, and worked out ok for us such that we finished top 4. But then the finals gave us a horror draw, as we were unfairly matched up against top class teams week after bloody week". Phwooaarr!

You make the draw work for you with your consistent performances against all opposition every week.

He was still playing plenty of midfield up to and including 2020. For some reason there was a change of thinking between 2020 and 2021 and he's basically never been seen in the midfield since.

I believe after our worst finals loss in history being the Bulldogs prelim, the club and coaches spent the entire offseason hyping how SPP in the midfield was going to be the saviour to not play him in the midfield.

Let's see how it plays out. I still think there is a reasonable chance a succession plan gets formalised before the season starts. That would end the week to week pressure and discussion around Hinkley and also end the angst around here about him being extended.

Not sure why a succession plan announcement would ease anything much, an insular club with another in house appointment from Bubbleton.

Nobody outside this forum cares about that.

It takes the whole topic of conversation off the media agenda and makes it more interesting to talk about Bevo or Goodwin or whoever else.

Taking a step back from the individuals involved, the relentless culture of promotions from within, as if only those already inside the tent have the requisite special sauce to continue serving up whatever it is they think they’re excelling at, is wild.

And from an organisation that went out and installed the alleged Queen of Disruption on the Board.

Lol.

Even if we announced a succession plan you can bet if we were 7-3 Hinkley and his manager would have their media goons white ant Carr so that our insipid board reneged on the deal.

The more I think about it, the more I think that the Josh Carr "succession plan" is nothing more than a back-up plan and an easy way out.

If it looks like we're going to miss the finals next year, then they can just pull the Josh Carr trigger.

Am I the only one who doesn't like DBJ forward? I hear a lot about him, SPP, Evans, McEntee and the like being "pressure forwards"

To me, something seems off about structuring your forwardline around the other team having the ball...

I like DBJ as a forward. Think he's a reliable kick up forward and is a good tackler.

I understand your point though. Our gameplan under Ken is based on two things:

1. When we have the ball, we want to take it inside 50 and lock it in. Scoring a goal isn't the primary objective. We put so much faith in our x-factor players to create something off the stoppage but a good defensive team setup can make it very hard for us to score.

2. When we don't have the ball, we throw numbers as high up as possible to try cause a turnover but once the first layer of defence is breached, it's an easy goal to score as long as opposition don't fumble.

DBJ had the most goals + assists for the club last year. I don't have an issue with him per se. Him, Rioli, Richards and SPP are a good forward line but saying that if Barrett turned out to be good, DBJ is the first from that list to make way).
