"Wouldn't change a thing" guy who set the record for the biggest loss in a Prelim hosting an interstate side doesn't change a thing and continues to get pasted in every final bar one where he was lucky to hang on against 7th.

And carried on like he'd won through to a World Cup Final.. nothing to see here.

The past is irrelevant except when:
  • You can't judge on a 10+ goal prelim final loss, rather considering onlythe home/away season
  • It's preferable to consider his overall W-L% that's skewed by wins against the triumvirate of mediocrity of Norf/StK/SUNS

When what you're doing makes you a multimillionaire with little scrutiny for mediocre results that you couldn't care less about, why would you?

From winning a semi-final and reacting like this:

It beggars belief how this schlub is perceived by pretty much everyone but us.

From an ultra-professional breath of fresh air whose only goal was the premiership, to an embarrassing goose determined to make it all about him (except when we lose).

A succession plan. lol
What is the point of a succession plan? Hinkley is out of contract at the end of the season so that is it. Don't extend him and he's gone and we are free to appoint a new coach.

Isn't it wonderful reminiscing about another failed finals campaign. Essentially "hope for the best" is our strategy. Amazing to think this mindset has only yielded us three finals wins in a decade.

As we enter January we must be edging closer to the club rolling out Hinkley from hibernation after another disastrous finals campaign. Of course there will be no need for any scribes to question Kenny on past failings. That is all in the past. It is a new year so onwards and upwards.
Lol.
Don't judge me on the last 12 years. I'll let you know when you can judge me and if nothing comes up in the next 12 months, remember how I beat St Kilda by under a goal and judge me on that week

heck me, imagine falling back on “we give ourselves a chance” in a two-horse race where a number of key variables were in his team’s favour for that particular fixture.

Can’t chase greatness with Hinkley the Human Handbrake spooking the whole place at every opportunity.

It's obvious what will happen from here now.

Doesn't get renewed.
"Coach search across the globe for the ABSOLUTE BEST!"
Appoint Carr
"He was the absolute best."

That's a funny way to spell:
  • Mid season winning run
  • Undeserved extension
  • Abe Simpson pants falling down vs Essendon in their first finals win in 20 years

People mock the succession plan but isn't Hinkley the only AFL coach we've had that wasn't part of a succession plan of sorts?

Sydney have appointed from within the last 3 times, which has yielded two long serving premiership coaches, and the 3rd will get his start this year but already appears to be a good appointment.

And aside from Cahill they've all underperformed, what's your point?

Just announce Carr is taking over next year so we can all move on. If they don't want a repeat of the speculation/media circus of 2023, it's what needs to happen. I honestly think thinks 2025 could be more intense than 2023 if they don't.
This makes sense

Too much sense for Koch and Richardson

Watch them ride the waves of media/fan speculation every week without looking like they have any idea what they're doing, because they don't

The point is that it locks the muppets into a decision and stops them changing their mind when he wins 3 in a row.

I think Cahill to Choco was a successful and sensible succession plan. Cahill for a couple years to set things up and establish the culture, he was fantastic at making us immediately competitive and then from 1999 onwards i though Choco took the game plan to another level and yes we were at least one premiership short but from 1999-2007 we were a very good side. The whole club lost the plot after that but i guess the point i'm making is that we've had more success with succession plans than non succession plans (hinkley).

Succession plans have worked for Sydney. The Roos to Goodwin plan worked similar to Cahill to Choco. Malthouse to Buckley, and Clarkson to Mitchell worked out okay in the end but were poorly executed, most of that was due to the egos involved.

I don't understand why so many think that it won't work and we are better off getting someone else from outside.

Doesn't get renewed is absolutely no guarantee

If we start the season well and we're 8-3 at the bye, we're relying on several absolute cowards to hold their nerve.

Succession plans, such as the examples you mention, work when you're carrying forward an established strong, winning culture and system.

We're not. Our football department is trash.

I'm not against Carr coaching us but Koch era Port Adelaide appointing almost exclusively internal candidates and eroding 150 years of Port Adelaide culture has been terrible. We desperately need strong leaders from outside the club.

Any succession plan that happens at Port is happening because the administration are too cowardly to sack a the rotting corpse of coach who has been past his used by date for 7+ years now. The ONLY good thing about a succession plan is that we have a light at the end of the tunnel re Hinkley. The way our club is run absolutely stinks.
