Would be so on brand for this regime to do nothing though going into round 1, get blasted by Collingwood with Houston BOG and then face a barrage of questioning from the media about last year's trade period along with Ken's contract and the uncertainty it provides even though it is only round 1.

If we win that game we’ll probably be 4-0 going into the Gather Round grudge match with Hawthorn, at which point the entire AFL world converges on Adelaide and we’ll be subjected to the exact same “SHEESH PORT POWER FANS ARE UNGRATEFUL, KENNY’S BUILT’EM UP FROM NOTHIN!… WHY WOULDNT YA GIVE HIM ANOTHER CONTRACT?!” gaslighting free-for-all.

Did Davies need an "extended break" too? Lol..needed a rest after calculating the club's (Ken's) win/loss percentage since 2013.

Don't think CD was on an extended break. He did spend time overseas in the off-season for professional development purposes though when others were winding down heading into Xmas.

If there’s no succession plan of any sorts, where the hell is all this smoke coming from? I personally think it’s the AFL’s worst kept secret and it’s a formality that it’s happening the only aspect that has everyone guessing is the timing.

You can just picture Whateley and Huddo on comms attacking us to the whole of Australia.

“These ungrateful bloodthirsty pack of swines, heartless mob seeking for scalp of Ken’s blood till his gone and their is nothing left of him”.

Then if we make finals the same commentators will have us as the 5th or 6th seed with the usual list excuses.

We'll know immediately when the club pitch the idea of a succession plan to Hinkley, because Kornes, Caro or Whately will be in the media calling the idea disrespectful "to what Kenny has built", questioning Josh Carr's credentials and leaping to worst case scenarios that they aren't directly predicting but are certainly hinting towards.

If it happens yea it'll play out in the media and they'll dutch up an unworkable situation narrative thwarting Ken's chances, it will all become about him which never ends well and only incites his wild emotional swings.
It's a real chance of being a waiting pattern throw away season, even the chance of such should never enter the realm of a professional football club. I really doubt Ken's ability to navigate such a situation which is why I can't see them making it public prior to the season it's better to roll down the blinds until it blows up.

But there's the paradox. Smart enough to milk the Club for $10m plus, have the media in his pocket and Koch beholden to him.

I wouldn't mind being that kind of stupid...
He's a snake no doubt. Cunning and manipulative as is his manager. That says more about our admin though. It's at its lowest ebb.

I think ken knows this will be his last year whatever the result. There was doubt about it mid last year, during the tears period and the loss to Geelong in the final, but the final win against hawthorn convinced koch and others to give him 1more year.
Carr will be our next coach. It could happen like it did sydney and get annouced at the end of the season which I think would be the preference. But that will only work comfortably if we are at the pointy end of the season as avoiding conjecture like Sydney were. If we are struggling mid season they may have no choice but to come out earlier
But I don't think they will do it before season starts although they should.

That would not work at all - because all it would spark from the media is the narrative of "why haven't Port extended Ken yet?"
