Haven't been to training this preseason as yet but previous years have all been underwhelming. We simply don't train with enough intensity.
I'm a big believer in you play as you train. Agree, I'm generally underwhelmed by the lack of competitiveness & intensity but this seemed worse. Butters always trains hard but there are plenty of players just going through the motions. Whether Marshalls injury had an impact on training I'm unsure. I know they've only been back one week but training intensity would want to step up significantly over the next month.

In hindsight, GWS lost to the two Grand Finalists by a combined margin of just 11 points.
GWS had enough talent to win that flag but their mental toughness is still not there. They should have won a flag under Cameron but he wasnt a good enough head coach imo. Whether Kingsley can improve their mentality while their list is still good enough will be an interesting watch.

It's been quoted multiple times already by Ken and players that one loss feels like they're at the bottom of the ladder.

It's why we're cooked in games that actually matter. Club cannot handle pressure and nothing is done except alienating the supporter base and calling them white noise
A question on what the club is doing to address the players mental fragility in finals was asked at the AGM. The response by Koch & Richo was shock followed by denial. There was an audible sigh from some in the room (think they were associated with the club). But it was clear Rozee was well aware of the members discontent with finals performances. Every AGM Koch demonstrates how little he understands about football (this year a repeat of his Sydney finals comment). I find it very frustrating.

While I certainly don't think Sydney are the oracle of everything given their recent GF humiliations (at least they make them), this is the intensity with which they came back from the Xmas break...

Any wonder they flicked us away with ease like a nuisance insect in the Prelim?

Was it last preseason that Daddy Donuts reprimanded Butters for training too hard?

One thing that irks me is that when Hinkley eventually is replaced by Josh Carr, give it five minutes and I guarantee you none of the middle aged women who only follow footy for the sipping cocktails and white wines with their friends side of it will even remember who Ken Hinkley was.
Will be the most forgettable coach in Port's history. I give it a year before people are misremembering him as Kent Hunkle.

Forgettable??? I want him to be remembered forever as the complete and utter failure that he is and always will be.

People are going to watch footage of him in 50 years' time and wonder how the current world managed to allow a sentient potato to get a job in football.

The last time I felt this underwhelmed going into a new season was...oh wait...this time last year.

It actually beggars belief that Hinkley is the coach of the PAFC in 2025. If you suddenly woke uo from a 10 year coma and you learned of this information, you would instantly assume we've won 2 or 3 premierships in that time. But instead we go into the new campaign with the same underwhelming coach, the same face, same voice, same ideas, the same used car salesman spin. I was over this campaigner at the end of 2017 and yet here we are 8 years later.

Even if Carr eventually gets the job, and there's no guarantee Hinkley won't be renewed later this year, Carr will be too Hinkleysised. He will be damaged goods.

What the club needs is a clean break. We've tried assistant coaches as successors, didn't work. We've tried stability, hasn't worked. Just go out and get the beat coach available who has had no prior relationship with the players.

Yep, and they'll all argue that the club made the right choice at the right time, the club was right to keep him and then they were right to get rid of him when they did. The club can do no wrong because you've gotta support the club or then go and bloody support the crows.

I love when people comment "go and support the crows" on my tiktok videos that literally have the location tagged as Melbourne, hardly a brain cell between these ****ers

Even when Hinkley goes, the fact that all 3 of Butters, Rozee and JHF have zero good games in the finals is an issue that needs to be looked at too.
Hopefully the new coach can convince them that finals aren't scary.

GWS don't have anything going for them besides talent. No culture, No supporters. Everything for them is completely internalised. It all has to come from within. That makes it extra hard. I reckon if they had the support of even a lower mid range club, it probably would have helped them get across the line more often than not. They never get to feed off the crowd. They don't get the rub of the green that feeds from that. They don't ever get the emotive drive of 50,000 people screaming in their corner. That's worth something, even if it's 5%. That 5% would have won them a Grand Final or 2 by now.
