He literally sat laid back on a deck chair, arms folded as a spectator during a pre season game one year when he was still fairly new to senior coaching. So taking a week off in January when he is transitioning out of a role and handing more responsibility to his successor is probably not as bad.
The deck chair and folded arms was because Koch appointed Voss without consulting HRH.

Where is this keep Ken on in some type of Director of Coaching narrative coming from? Surely the last person you want in that role is someone with his record. Especially the long term record against top teams and overall finals performance. That would be the last person I would like to impart wisdom to others at the club.

It's a thought bubble created by people on here.

A director of coaching role is not in the works for Ken. It's not happening.

So I am being genuine with this question. If Ken Hinkley is prepared to do this "personal development" and take it seriously and not as a free holiday and is looking at different tools to help improve performance..... Would he be prepared to let Darren Cahill be involved in more leadership and mentoring programs within the club if he wants to be involved? If Warren Tredrea would like to spend 15 minutes speaking to a forward about their craft and leading patterns with something he has noticed during games, maybe this will be allowed to transpire this year rather than previous seasons?

No chance of either happening. Cahill was brought in to help many years ago, Ken deliberately kept him at arm's length.

As for Tredrea, at least one player wanted to work with him on goal kicking a while ago, until Ken got word of it and told the player in no uncertain terms, that's not happening.

Ken has done professional development stuff before - it's imo a box ticking exercise that will not result in any tangible change in terms of his approach.

Sums the insular, arrogant nature of Hinkley up perfectly.

A coach boasting international sporting experience and success - probably rivaled only by Ange Postecoglou among Australians - wants to help and he tells him where to go.

The club's greatest ever forward wants to help our forwards and he doesn't allow it, possibly even motivated by his petty personal grudge.

He sucks.

What an insecure, immature, selfish twat Ken Hinkley is. But we already knew that.

No other coach has stepped down into a lesser role at a club. Hinkley would undermine the head coach in every way he can and has done before like at St.kilda and GC, he was a snake to the head coach and other coaches.

I want him gone, away from the club, I do not care where he goes.

If it is his last year, why are the club sending him overseas?

Imagine having one of the best CHF's of the modern era roaming the halls and having an issue with players talking to him, it wouldn't just be Ken either Chadbro doesn't like him.

Dixon talking to Ginever like he was some front bar yob making the observation that he was leaning back on his kicking a few years ago tells you what the place is like.. "Everyone has an opinion".

lol how they get ultra defensive and can't take a single shred of criticism is such a great indicator as to how insular they are and how protected they are.

Losers.

Until it's confirmed it's his last year, I wouldn't believe anything that comes out of that building on the quiet.

As for your question, as long as he's the coach, the club should continue providing him the resources (such as access to NZ Rugby) to get the best out of him for the club's benefit.

If there is no announcement before or very early in the season and the team is doing okay by mid season, Ken wont be going any where unless Ken wants too.

Going on the only thing we do know is that Port wont sack Ken, if it's his last year it will be Hinkley's choice.
