Serious question, why in such a pro Crows media landscape does the heat not come on him over there? As you lot probably know the advantage and at the same time disadvantage of being a vic team is you get extreme levels of media attention, either very negative or very positive.
Because Ken at Port is the best thing for the crows. We waste our chance at a flag and burn good careers.

The media was way harder on Primus when he was rebuilding, a rebuilding Port was a dangerous thing. Then after Hinkley's first few seasons it became clear that we weren't too much of a threat. Crows refreshed and got to a grand final.

The Crows media know Hinkley's a dud, so they want him here as long as possible.

Rabbitohs up for their fourth prelim in a row tonight, third under one of the NRL’s all time legendary coaches Wayne Bennett. They’ve lost three in a row and to cut a long story short this one is probably their best shot at making a GF of the four attempts.

Wayne has pre-announced that he’s leaving after this year.

Interesting dot point from another team sport for Ken and the board to consider.

Did they win the premiership a years ago?

Inb4 it was 2011 or something.

Hinkley is a great media manipulator. as is his manager Peter Blucher who was a sports journo for about 15 years and worked for the Brisbane Lions and Brisbane Bullets as PR/Communications manager so he to knows the media game and how its played. Hinkley plays the good bloke card all the time and speaks in footy cliches that is non offensive. His worst year was 2016 10-12 and 2019 was 11-11, so he hasn't been hopeless like Teague or Buckley was 2014-17 years, but he isn't great coach either. Every year he takes out the media for lunch/dinner to talk about Port. Rucci is writing for the club these days so he is sucking up.

Choco used to be a feisty bastard and challenged and had a go at the media who challenged him and he suffered from Port not transferring its September SANFL success to the AFL despite winning 16+18+18 games in 2001-03. Also Koch, unlike Boulton and Duncanson works for a media company and he also knows that game well and how to manipulate it.

2014. Bennett came on board for 2019 and in 2020 announced a transition for after the 2021 season.

“It’s time”, but I can’t see them getting past the Storm should both reach the GF. On recent years head to head Souths solidly favoured over Manly; Storm favoured over Penrith but that’s a closer thing.

Point being the coach set a timeframe, stuck to it, and will walk away after several solid tilts at a flag in a third of the time we’ve allocated to Hinkley :(

Also its not as if they have been favourites in the PFs before this one.

2018 finished 3rd and lost 1st v 3rd PF

2019 finished 3rd and lost 4th v 3rd PF after Canberra won their 4th v 1st QF v Roosters and PF played in Canberra.

2020 finished 6th and won their EF and SF and lost to 1st side Penrith in PF.

Their losing margin has been decreasing from 8, to 6, to 4. So they will probably lose this one by 2, although they are favourites..

2021 finished 3rd will play in 3rd v 4th PF because they beat 2nd Penrith in QF.

Edit Souths up 18-0 after 30 minutes.

Like he's not allowed to be called out.

He still hasn't come forward with an explanation of what went wrong to the clubs paying members. Totally unacceptable.

Just pay up and shut up members and don't be so ungrateful.
Pay me upwards of 6-7 mil over the journey for delivering sweet FA with no questions asked please.

The Camry Crows want Hinkley at Ports forever.

When was the off-air heated argument between Tredrea and Hinkley supposed to have happened? Or is it bull?
I doubt it happened. Hinkley wouldn't have the guts to have a confrontation with Tredders. Tredders is ropeable over the PF performance. Kenny would have slunk away and called Koch and told him that Tredders is a bully and that Koch needs to tell Tredders to back off.

I'd actually have a modicum of respect for Hinkley if, for once, he took full responsibility for the team's insipid performance in such an important game for the club and manned up instead of coming across as a whiny, sulky **tch when questioned or criticised. I'm waiting for Rucci to come out and call us 'haters' disrespectful like he did when we questioned poor Ken at the AGM not so long ago.

I reckon Ken would definitely wind up Tredrea off air but still in his workplace, knowing Warren has to maintain professionalism but Ken can speak more freely.

So much heat on Koch and Hinkley from the supporters but for some reason the guy who is actually steering the ship in Richardson is getting by without much flak.

The reason? He's anonymous. Sent out that ****ing garbage email which everyone hated, nothing since.

Like I said the other day, KT read the room well maybe…

I sent a rather caustic reply to that Richo email the next day - no response.

Even right now a simple 'Ken is contracted and at this stage we will support him to continue as coach whilst he can continue to take the team to top 4 and finals' is enough to satisfy.

Tl;dr, it isn't feasible to sack him - yet.

But no, all we get is an absolute unironic full support of the club Ken is the right man we've had successful seasons what more do you want.

In addition to his good guy media image Hinkley has always made an attempt to get the players and coaching staff onside. There has been very little movement out of Alberton other than the players we wanted to off load. Koch and his Board probably see this as stability and are reluctant to risk a player reaction if Ken is shown the door.

Of course it is one thing to want Hinkley gone and another to nominate a likely replacement. Unless we are privy to what happens behind the scenes across the AFL it is hard to know who has the right stuff to be a successful senior coach. Hinkley was always talked up by the Geelong players and in fact a couple of them rang the Port selection panel to put in a word for Hinkley prior to his appointment.

On a side issue I heard a great comment from Wayne Bennett, who has just managed to guide a club in his charge into his 10th NRL Grand Final. Bennett said in the lead up to finals 'the secret is to get the players to control their emotions and not have emotion controlling them'. I reckon that was our problem before last week's Prelim. Our players were focused on the hurt and disappointment of 2020 and the media was full of making amends for 2020 rather than winning in 2021. I must have heard half a dozen our players players in the media all telling us how much 2020 hurt and how it would spur us on. It was almost as if we were assured of a win because we had been disappointed in 2020. It is not an easy concept to explain but I reckon Hinkley let the looking backward get out of control and we were not focused on what had to be done on the night.

Interesting. Your 3 reasons.for not getting rid of Hinkley are the exact reasons why he should be gone.
'Good guy image'.
Plays the media and people around him like fiddles. Never makes the hard calls based on merit, plays favourites. Total unaccoutability for results. Stability can be comfortability and is only good when you have the right people in place. He invokes the 'poor Kenny' narrative.
'Who else is out there'
Firstly, the fact that his Geelong mates had to give him a glowing endorsement and 3 failed interviews, (the St Kilda one only lasting a few minutes apparently) and.his refusal to go through an interview process based on zero should have firmly shut the door in his face let alone resulted in him being appointed. Any untried coach is successful until they're not.
Thirdly.
Wayne Bennett and Ken Hinkley are stratosphere's apart. The fact that we consistently fail when expectation is high proves he cannot extract the best from the players when it matters most and keep the players calm and focussed.

I have no idea if it's true or not but I love the thought of Hinkley opening his trap and St Kilda just telling him to get out on the spot

I switched off to the 3K trilogy about 5 years ago, but I have a vague recollection of the club sending kern ( or wanting to send him ) to the U.S. to expand his coaching knowledge, and he either refused to go, or returned early.
If any of that was true he should have been terminated immediately.

I can also recall him being cut a lot of slack when one of his mates passed away, and at the risk of accusations of being harsh I doubt there is a person over 30 in the world who hasn't lost at least one person who was close to them, inc parents and siblings, and most would have had to get on with their working lives and perform at an acceptable level.
