I'm sure it's been said before and will be said again, but holy heck, look at the effects of new coaches across the board.

Essendon 2-0
North 2-0
StKilda, Saint *in Kilda, a side with 75 injuries and had gumption beyond belief to sack their coach from nowhere, are 2-0

McRae's impact, Voss' impact

Meanwhile we're all here comfortable in 11th spot again, looking forward to a future of going 50/50 in showdowns, finishing mid table and occasionally making an important final we will lose..

But hey, hows the stability!

I'm at the point where a new coach, new CEO, new President and a clean out etc. isn't actually going to bring me back to being a member.

A new coach etc. does not make any of the fundamental issues with the AFL go away. We're still in the pissant comp, we're still gonna be constantly ****ed by vicbias and we're still gonna be second rate citizens in a competition where "national" means Victorian. There is no point to us in this league at all.

The only way we can go from being essentially an irrelevant minnow franchise to something actually worthwhile is through total and complete cultural transformation ala Sydney. We need to go to a level in professionalism, standards, culture, etc, that nobody else is going to or we'll never amount to anything in a league that is systematically stacked against us. There's very little chance of that happening though.

We're owned by the AFL and can't even appoint our own board so...as I said, we're a pointless entity in a pointless league.

Nah winning (and even creed worthy losses) against the odds just makes it better.

Playing against the odds and tying one of our our own arms behind our backs, then making lame excuses is what makes it miserable.

Or list all the coaches we could of had if we sacked Hinkley when we should have.
Kane will just do the same mental gymnastics to explain why Clarko or McRae or whoever else wouldn't have been a good fit at Port.

But his own brother? Now that will challenge him.

I’ve managed to numb the pain, morning tour of Guinness brewery (with samples) now at Jameson Distillery (with more samples).
Highly recommend travelling during AFL season - being too heavily invested in the club at the moment is bad for your mental health..

Ross posted this in the Collingwood Game Day thread. I responded there but thought it deserved to be here too.

An insane stat is Port Adelaide have had 7 senior coaches since 1950.

Fos Williams (1950-1958, 1962-1973)
Geof Motley (1959-1961)
John Cahill (1974-1982, 1988-1998 with the last 2 years being when we entered the AFL)
Russell Ebert (1983-1987)
Mark Williams (1999-2010)
Matthew Primus (2010-2012)
Ken Hinkley (2013-Present)

Looking at that list, the thing that stands out to me is that Hinkley's tenure is behind Mark and Fos and will be equal with Jack by the end of the season as amongst the longest single terms served by a Port coach since 1950.
