On the surface this looked a mismatch. A Gumbies outfit in ripping form and playing at home against a Dragons team experiencing a surprising downturn in Season 34. On paper the teams looked evenly matched. How would it work out?
The conditions were warm but would it get hot?
Q1. saw an even start before the Gumbies asserted their authority. By the first break the Gumbies had set up a handy 28 point lead. Goal sneak miggs had nabbed a brace with the other Gumbies' goals shared around. The Dragons spearhead Hatchy1992 had opened their account with an important but lone goal.
The second quarter posed questions for both teams, particularly about whether the Dragons could find form. After an uncertain start Ljp86 and Hatchy1992 dug in and drove a decided lift in Dragons' performance. In something of a goal fest the Drags booted to 6 majors to 5 from the Gumbies. The deficit by half time was reduced to 25 points.
The third quarter marked a further resurgence by the Dragons' and the deficit at the final change was reduced to 9 points. The Gumbies had not stopped to a walk but the game had lifted in intensity.
The final quarter commenced with a sharp Dragons goal from Ashman OG. A tough end to end tussle ensued until the Dragons hit the lead via a major from A Swallow. A terrific individual piece of work from Dory_77 put the Gumbies back in charge. 'We'll do this by behinds' had become the Dragons' mantra until Knifey Spoony slammed home a goal to put the visitors up by 6 points. This opened to 12 points with a cracking Asman OG major.
With around 5 minutes left all players were throwing themselves in where angels feared to tread. Behinds' were exchanged but the margin in favour of the Dragons remained 12 points.
In this boilover there were a number of heroes for the winners. Ljp86 had an inspirational game
Bwith 22 disposals and two vital goals. They were well supported by veteran Pie 4 Life (22 disposals) and Hatchy1992 with 4 goals. For a disappointed Gumbies, Brick Loosener with 25 disposals, 8 marks and 2 goals kept their team in the hunt. They received solid support from Super Cheap and DenieD.

Two teams with real Finals ambitions met in a vital Round 9 Clash at the Snowdome. The weather was warm and expectations were high.
Champion player and a proud Premiership winner with the Royals, the urbane Marlowe had surprised the Sweet FA by transferring to the Demons. Would there be on field ructions? Barely 5 minutes into Q.1 grumbleguts lined up Marlowe with a perfect bump leaving a still Marlowe decorating the turf of his new Club.
It was in fact a highly physical opening. grumbleguts franked his tough work immediately after with a good goal. The Filth Wizard was soon on the Board with his first and the Royals were winning the opening skirmishes. The redoubtable Hate settled the Demons with a powerhouse major. An exchange of majors and then further goals from a fired up grumbleguts and The Filth Wizard gave the Royals a handy 19 point lead at oranges.
In Q.2 the tough play continued and then crowd favourite Headless delighted all with a sharp goal. This however sparked a run of goals from the Royals.broken by only a couple of snags to the Dees. Half time could not have come quicker for the home team who limped in suffering a deficit of 53 points.
The Premiership Quarter saw both teams running out looking to exact a physical toll; one team looking to extend their advantage, the other to trim it.For long periods the ball pinged between the two hard working backlines. At quarters end for all their hard work the Demons had ronly slightly reduced the deficit to 48 points.
Try as they might, the Demons could not resist what was a statement performance by the Royals. With star full forward The Filth Wizard on fire and round the ground dominance.the Royals bolted in by a resounding 68 points.
In a dominant performance, GreyCrow was a standout with 15 Hitouts, 28 disposals and 4 tackles. The mercurial CakeEater offered great support with 30 possessions and The Filth Wizard snagged 8 goals.. For the disappointing Demons Crimsonviolet (aka Greenery) with 24 disposals and 8 marks and Bluelegs with 4 goals could hold their heads up.

These are two Teams whose Seasons were on the edge of the abyss. Home had not been a happy hunting ground for the Wonders, while the Warriors were struggling most everywhere.
In warm conditions the first Quarter saw both teams play hard and tough but with some pleasing enterprise. An even quarter saw the Wonders take a 1 point lead.
The second quarter continued the goal for goal exchange until the latter stages when the Wonders enjoyed a purple patch. At half time, the Wonders had slipped away to a handy 24 point lead.
The Premiership Quarter opened and continued with 'tit for tat' goal exchanges. At stages the Wonders through the like of Frothies McVeigh looked like kicking away only for a resolute Warriors team to reel them back. At the siren the Wonders' lead had been reduced to 22 points.
The last quarter promised great interest. A couple of snags from the dangerous Dinsdale and another from Piggy Smalls reduced the lead to 4 points. Wonders' goals from dogs105 and Frothies McVeigh gave breathing space and a 14 point lead but with plenty of time. Dinsdale nabbed his third of the quarter to narrow the gap. Mesc narrowed it further to two points at the halfway mark.
Wonders' veteran ClarkeM said he'd seen enough'and scored a brilliant goal.which turned out be the sealer. The Wonders defeated the Warriors by 8 points.
For the Wonders, ClarkeM had 28 disposals and two goals, jezzajay had 19 possessions and 2 goals while Frothies McVeigh with 6 goals was a dominant forward. For the Warriors, Captain Tonga Bob with 17 Hitouts and 23 disposals led from the front. Dinsdale with 5 goals was a real threat and pantskyle with 24 disposals and 7 tackles was typically determined.

This game gave the Swamprats their first sight of the OOBs home ground.
The comps' 13th Team had done pretty well through previous Rounds while the Swamprats were thus far not enjoying their Season as much as recent ones. Both teams brought sides brimmed with experience and new talent.
The Swamprats hit the ground running and snagged two quick goals while the Old Boys were tying their laces into Gordian knots. Finally the hosts settled with an opening goal from Mrs Turbo. The quarter ended with a slightly wasteful Swamprats taking a handy 16 point lead to savour with their oranges. Only accuracy was keeping the Old Boys in touch.
With much to think about both teams broke from their huddles to tackle Q.2.. Irrepressible okeydoke 7 is not much for thinking, he's for doing and he snagged his 3rd and the opener of the quarter. This spurred the Old Boys into action and they went on an impressive run of majors. By halftime, scores were dead level with Old Boys enjoying accuracy and the Swamprats bemoaning their inaccuracy.
The third quarter, as ever, would prove pivotal. Out of the blue, The Old Boys went on a mad tear with a string of majors. Finally, Gremio Power settled the visitors' nerves with a timely goal. GotTheGoodes snagged one and a comeback was in the offing. A late quarter Old Boys' goal restored momentum and gave them a solid 27 point lead at the Bell.
The last quarter saw the Swamprats restore momentum and confidence. At the midway point, the deficit had been reduced to 22 points. Goal exchanges and shocking inaccuracy did not help their cause. Mobbs dobbed the sealer late in the quarter to applause from the noisy crowd. The result saw the Old Boys defeat the Swamprats by 25 points.
For the Old Boys the consistent Callums_Guns had 20 possessions, 8 tackles and 2 goals, while The Cryptkeeper and Elton John's Wig had cracking games. For the Swamprats GotTheGoodes was unstoppable with 26 disposals, 7 marks and a goal. Great support was provided by Grav and Gremio Power who dominated the Ruck and snagged 2 goals.

This Round 9 Clash had lots of interest, not least as former Bears' skipper mweps had shifted to the Phoenix. Form and Finals wise Phoenix were reasonably placed while the Bears were less so.
Phoenix veteran Itsmyshow got the quarter off to a classy start with a quality goal. Halfway through the quarter Phoenix had skipped to a nice 24 point lead. After yet more Phoenix goals a cranky Test Tickle slammed a mighty goal from the centre. Nonetheless when the Bell rang, the Bears trudged to the huddle with that same 24 point deficit.
The second quarter opened with an early Wise Guy Sam major making a statement. Goal exchanges between the teams meant it was still a similar deficit halfway in. The second half saw Phoenix assert dominance and enjoy a 48 point lead at the Bell.
The third Quarter opened with a neat Chipmunk goal before majors from Muddiemoose and I don't Care rewarded the Bears for their efforts. This sparked a revival and a tougher contest. The 3/4 time bell showed the Phoenix leading by a reduced but still commanding 39 point margin.
Would the last quarter see a serious challenge. The Bears would not go away and by the final Bell had whittled the deficit to 25 points.
For the Phoenix it was an important win. East Side were well served by Milera2Betts who snagged 5 goals to go with 17 possessions and 8 marks. thewizardmelon with 21 Hitouts and 22 disposals and MP_ who had16 disposals and delivered 7 crunching tackles had strong games.
For the Bears, Broken led the way with 10 huge tackles to go with 19 possessions. Muddiemoose did sturdy work with 12 Hitouts and 27 disposals.

Two teams providing a study in contrasts, the reigning Premiers at the top of their form with a settled line up against a Furies crew going through an extensive rebuild. Can the Furies pull off an upset.
If there was complacency in the Roys, the early minutes of the First Quarter were a sharp wake up call. In a trice, a sharp Furies outfit had two majors on the Board. The Roys fought back with their first. The Roys slowly got on top. Point for point the two teams traded blows with the Roys inching ahead. By oranges they had snuck out to a 12 point lead.
The Roys applied pressure through Q.2 stretching their lead but the Furies tyros hung around and continued to threaten. By half time the Roys lead had stretched to 29 points.
The Premiership Quarter began with three misses from the Furies and a lucky goal to the Roys. Chronz and the promising Scythe94 were providing more than nuisance value for the Furies. At 3/4 time the Roys lead had been trimmed to 23 points.
The 4th quarter saw the Roys pour on the pressure and that soon saw them skip to a 40 point lead. By the Final Siren the lead was a neat 50 points.
For the Roys, Kabanna dominated throughout racking up 28 disposals, 9 marks and a goal. Allikat provided great support with 29 disposals, 9 marks and two Tackles. DERRINAL PHIL had a capital game with 15 Hitouts, 24 possessions and two goals.
For the Furies, NaturalDisaster fought hard with 27 disposals, 12 Hitouts and 4 Tackles. James Colorado impressed with 20 possessions and 7 tackles. Silky23 also served the team well with 25 disposals and 7 marks.
