Ocha905 certainly a best on ground performance that week, both on and off the field , and was no doubt the difference. Well done on a well deserved 3 votes

Millky95 and Test Tickle played their roles but the rest of us just didn’t provide enough support
It was pretty much the only thread I applied myself in this season so I’m not too embarrassed to get votes. That round was certainly the personal highlight of the season.
Despite the loss it might’ve helped spur your team on in the second half of the season too.

Season 37 Round 9

S37 R9 Fighting Furies 21.18 (144) defeat Dragons FFC 20.6 (126)

The leadup of this game was filled with drama after the Furies controversially failed to submit a team sheet during the week and copped a 4 point team penalty with a suspension to retiring coskipper omgfridge. On a cloudy day at rfctigerarmy's hippodrome the Furies began with the momentum, kicking 6 behinds in the opening 3 minutes before continuing to dominate for the first half resulting in a 41 point half time lead. The Dragons did lift in the second half, narrowing the margin to 9 points and 4 points at stages of the third and 4th quarters respectively but Furies responded each time and ended up shock 18 point winners. This game was full of brilliant individual performances. PhenomenalV1 (133 DT, 2 goals) was best on ground and did everything possible to keep the Dragons in it with the help of Greenery (114 DT, 3 goals) and Purple Jesus (103 DT). However the Furies had too many contributors including Grockadoc (111 DT, 2 goals), NaturalDisaster (109 DT, 1 goal), Edmund hunt (107 DT, 2 goals) and ShaunDuggan (4 goals, 4 behinds)

S37 R9 Las Vegas Bears 10.4 (64) defeated by East Side Hawks 12.5 (77)

On a Muddy day at The Stadium In The Sky the Hawks kicked the opening goal before the Bears piled on 4 unanswered majors to take a 20 point lead at quarter time. The Hawks caught the Bears napping in the second term, piling on 3 straight goals whilst holding the Bears scoreless that term. The Hawks continued their momentum in the third term, snatching the lead in the final minute to take a narrow 4 point lead at the final change. The Bears regained the lead early in the final term but ran out of legs as the Hawks finished with a memorable 13 point victory. Big man Cap (4 goals) and GOAT Tarkyn_24 (3 goals) were both influential despite the conditions. Millky95 (52 DT) kept trying all day. vanders (3 goals, 73 DT, 5 tackles) put on a vintage display in a best on ground performance for the Hawks, and was probably the difference between the two teams.

On a rare Warm day at Underground Stadium, the Swamprats got off to a dominant start but were left ruing inaccuracy as they took 10 point lead at the first break. Season 37 Round 11

Gumbies FFC 17.9.111 def Dragons FFC 15.10.100

Here we are mid-way through the season. The Gumbies are clinging on to a spot in the 8 after losing to the Wonders at home last week, while they Dragons are just outside on percentage. Partly because of a humiliating heavy home defeat at the hands of the Warriors.

Gumbies kicked away early thanks to Barrybran (6.1) and Mop (4.1) and despite the best efforts of Bonz who kicked a couple of his 5.2 before the main break. The Dragons couldn’t keep up with cats_09 in the ruck (15 hitouts) and around the ground (20 disposals) and tried several options without much success. Even though they weren’t getting first use of the ball, Greenery and freo84 tried hard to find their own. Both laid 6 tackles and they managed 31 and 22 disposals respectively. It was a tough game this one and ossie_21 and GWS Goose also laid 7 tackles each. BringBackTheAnchor chipped in with 4 goals but it wasn’t enough to take the points away from @Gumbianaland.

West Coast Wonders 15.6.96 def by Baghdad Bombers 16.9.105

Wonders are flying high only a win off the top, and had taken the points away from the Gumbies last week. The Bombers - strongest team in the comp at this point - were supporting the whole league after yet again not collecting any points from the unforgiving Rats.

In a fairly even game, The Wonders took the lead in the 2nd minute through Oisin_the_Goat (2.2 for the game) and led most of the day thanks to BFew (8 hitouts, 24 disposals, 2.1 goals), Cubs2Lions (24 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 goals) and Pamcake1 (24 disposals) getting plenty of ball in the midfield, and DenieD kicking 4.1 goals. Pugsley (27 disposals, 2 goals) and norway blue (23 disposals, 9 tackles) racn around and did their bit to keep the game competitive, and gab213 did Gab things with 4 goals, including one in the final run-in. But the unsung hero of the day was probably The Sultan. He did literally nothing for 3 quarters but then bobbed up with a couple of goals in the final quarter - just enough to see his team take the W.

Mount Buller Demons 11.9.75 defeated by Roys FFC 12.8.80

Demons and Roys were fighting it out for a spot in the 8, the latter holding such a position despite a heartbreaking 4-point loss at home to the Furies last week. The Demons were closing the gap after a similarly narrow win away at the struggling Royals. So this had all the hallmarks a good and even contest.

And so it proved to be. Well sort of. The Demons took the lead in the 2nd minute through Proper Gander (16 disposals, 1 goal) and never looked back. manangatang dominated in the ruck (11 hitouts, 23 disposals and a goal), cooney and Yakker were bringing down marks left and right and playing on quickly (cooney 19 touches, 9 marks, 2 goals, Yakker 19 touches, 7 marks and a goal), while sante kicked 3.2. But the Roys never gave up hope. Mobbs was outstanding with 28 disposals and 3KZ is Football had 20 and kicked a goal. Ed_Gein was having none of Cooney’s and Yakker’s nonsense and took 12 marks of his own (20 disposals). While sante kicked the last of his hat-trick in the 8th minute of Q4, that was to be the final Demons goal. But the real story of the day was JackNah_8. After taking 19 touches through the game, she was pushed forward in the final turn. She kicked the her first with a little over 10 minutes to go and she kicked her third to put the Roys in front with 4 minutes on the clock. It was the first time the Roys had been in front and it was the last score of the game.

East Side Hawks 16.15.111 def Ophidian Old Boys 11.6.72

Fresh off the bye, the Hawks were looking fresh and hoping to improve on their 5th spot against ladder leaders Old Boys, who had found themselves on the wrong end of a narrow loss at the hands of the improving Wonders last week.

The started off full of promise with each side kicking 3 goals in the first quarter with the Hawks taking a 1-point lead into the break. In the second Harvey Manfrenjensenden kicked the first of his 3 goals but that was to be the only score for his team for another 20-odd minutes. Strigoi made the ruck contest a one-horse race (9 hitouts, 22 disposals, 7 tackles), giving his midfield plenty of first-use - Zoops helped himself to 24 touches - and feeding prolific forwards Tarkyn_24 (5.3 goals) and TY24 (3.1). For the Ophag ….Ophli …. Obsi ….For the opposition, Iva Bigun (25 disposals and a goal) and King Tenz (24 disposals) ran all day and tried to get their team going. But even 4 goals from Mrs Turbo couldn’t even get the supposed top side within 6 goals of the home team.

Fighting Furies 23.11.149 def Sin City Swamprats 17.13.115

On paper this looked like being a tough day out for the struggling Furies on their home track against the flying high Swampies. Having said that, their win last week at the BJO would have given them some confidence, while the Rats coasted to victory over the lowly Bombers.

It’s a good job games are not played on paper because - mismatch or no mismatch - this was a cracking game on grass. The teams swapped goals for two and a half quarters, with the margin never more than a couple of goals. damicky was awesome in the ruck (19 hitouts, 20 disposals, 4 goals) but despite getting first touch on the ball, it was Frothies Mcveigh (36 disposals, 3 goals), Edmund hunt (29 disposals, 10 marks, and a goal), and crazywildhorse (31 disposals) who kept the ball on string. They wouldn’t even share it with their teammates - Shueygod had to go and lay 12 tackles to boost his 22 disposal stat count. philreich (24 disposals) and GotTheGoodes (26 disposals, 11 marks, 4 tackles) worked their butts off all day and helped Jewelsbon to snag 5 goals. But in the end, the Furies somehow ran away with the game in the final quarter, thanks largely to 5 goals each from Frederico_WA and ShaunDuggan.

Coney Island Warriors 4.10.34 def by Gold City Royals 13.7.85

The last game of the round was between two of this season’s strugglers. The Royals were still in the doldrums after an agonising 1-goal loss at home to the Demons, while the Warriors had helped their cause somewhat with a decent win over the Gumbies. The bookies couldn’t separate these but gave a marginal edge to the Royals. There was no smart money on the Warriors at this stage.

This game really lived down to its billing. The Warriors look like they are desperate for another spoon this year and the Royals were just about good enough to help them in their cause. The Filth Wizard kicked an early goal for the Warriors and that just seemed to upset the Royals. Brenton Davy (3.1 goals) and@ Cadsky (3.0) took over to help the Royals to a 4 goal lead at the first change. The Warriors only kicked 4 goals for the game, so coming back from this was always going to be a struggle. pantskyle got 16 touches and 6 tackles, while handball-happy TheInjuryFactory had 19 - 15 of them by hand. The real problem for Coney Island was their wayward forwards - The Filth Wizard 1.5, zackah 1.3, spudmaster 1.2. Only Snuffaluphagus didn’t blot his copybook but will hardly be popping the champagne at his 1.0 return. For the Warriors, Smartys Power and Nothing had 14 disposals each.

Bye

After a big win at Dragon Island last week, the Bears would have cut frustrated figures having to sit out this week. Having a rest can be a stressful experience at times.
