Prediction Semi Final: Changes Vs Collingwood (We survived to round 2!)

Pardon the intrusion just wanted to drop in before we all get in ‘game on‘ mode and wish your team all the best. I’ve always enjoyed watching Fremantle and truth be told I do have a bit of a soft spot for them. Plus I like your coach, think he’s been great for you.

You’ve got a great team and whether your season ends Saturday night or in the Prelim or Grand Final I hope you you get to get that 1st premiership soon.

Not when it’s Freo 😂🙄! I think that there was one night game we played that they stayed in Melbs overnight and did recovery session at St Kilda, so the Club probably has contingency plans for that.
Freo are using private charter planes, so they can leave when they want to I believe. It would be up to medical and conditioning whether they leave so late after a match - the Prelim final would on the next Saturday night as well.

Side ain't changing. Unless injuries. Please please N'OD ...

Sydney provided the blueprint to beat (both Freo &) Pies. The question is which team can apply those lessons. I reckon Fremantle have more strings to their bow and can adjust. Doesnt mean we will win as there is travel and home ground advantage to consider but can we win. Definitely. Most definitely we are capable of beating the Pies. Freo by <19 ...
We can't really change our game plan too much. Win at the contest, force the turnover, backline and team defence stop them scoring, and try and move the ball quickly with good ball movement and fast run of the half-backs, wings and half-forwards.

A couple of things we need to do are
  • Have Logue play defensive forward on Darcy Moore - to stop him intercepting
  • Protect the corridor when Collingwood are in fast play mode to stop them getting out the back
  • Stick our tackles - and keep the pressure high !

I know this ain’t going to happen and there probably would be a lot that would disagree but it would be awesome if fyfe stood down as captain this week to focus on just getting on the track a playing footy and handed the ropes to brayshaw going into this huge game. To see him leading the team out onto the g would be amazing.
Yeah, and totally undermine Pearce along the way. Worst suggestion on this forum? Probably not, and likely I own that accolade, but a contender.

If Tabs comes in, I think Griff might go to the medi sub. His versatility makes him quite suited to it.

I agree that we may be reluctant to play all of Logue, Tabs, Lobb and Amiss in the forward line.

Also, Lobb was back in the ruck against WB, which I think reduces Griff’s forward role somewhat.

The backline is settled and I don’t think Griff is required for a particular match up against Collingwood (compared to Cameron or Curnow for example).

If NOD is out, Chapman may move to a wing and Griff could slot back to the defence. I would prefer this over Tucker coming in to replace NOD, for example.

If Tabs doesn’t get up, Griff stays and will play a useful role in the forward line against Maynard or Howe.

If Fyfe was available next week (he isn’t but if he was), would Brodie be under threat?
Where would you slot him into the 22?
If we win and he’s fit for Sydney (it will be 21 days exactly since the hammy) he will definitely play and some one will be unlucky
Brodie is one of the first names on the team sheet. Not losing his spot whoever is fit.

Many developing clubs would set a kpi of playing in finals. Freo has done that AND won one. I hope they are cultivating a genuine belief that they can go all the way and win this thing for their long suffering fans and WA football. The brand they played in their last 3 quarters will stack up from what I’ve seen. Go Dockers!

I am not sure how many times JLo has to use the phrase "forward pressure" before people realise how much he values forwards that apply pressure.
Tabs is only coming in for one bloke - Amiss. Not Logue, and not any of the smalls.
I just can't see JLo wanting to play Tabs, Lobb and Amiss in the one forward line.
We all think it could work from a scoreboard perspective because we can all see Logue will never kick a bag whereas the other three all could, but the game plan says otherwise.

Yes, JL obviously values forward pressure. But hopefully Saturday showed him the value of forward craft as well.

Amiss took 6 marks, of which I think 4 were inside 50. Not a huge number, but that meant the ball wasn’t coming to ground on those occasions and there was no need for forward pressure.

If fit, I think Tabs will provide some marking power both inside 50 and on the wings to help with transition.

Griff dropped a few he should have taken and also went to ground badly in one case, meaning he didn’t apply any defensive pressure.

I think Griff isn’t quite there with his marking and leading patterns yet. If fit and on form, Tabs gives us that.

Not an easy selection though! I love Griff’s versatility and he will play a role on Saturday in some form, for sure.

Also, Fyfe doesn’t get to hand the captaincy to anyone. It is voted on by the players and coaches etc. at the club. There is a process and that’s as it should be. So that would be one of the worst, most distracting not to mention disrespectful ideas I have ever heard. Can you even imagine the media! Jaysus, are school holidays on or something?

Personally think we'll struggle against the Pies. We just dont have the bodies / experience to cope with the level of pressure they'll bring. If it rains we are shot IMO.

Anything from here is an absolute bonus, the belief from coming back from that deficit will fill us with belief the next 8 years

Weather isn't looking too bad.

We can beat them...need to start well

100%

They rely heavily on maturity and it's ability to sustain physicality for 4 quarters. Too many young bodies to match that yet so if they bring it we won't win.

If they can't back up, then we'll be in it up to our eyeballs (unless we don't show up for the first 40 minutes).

We can beat them, we'll need to be at our best and them off 5% IMO because if we've seen anything this year, it's that the happy handpass game at this stage of our development gets very murky under intense pressure.

Probably the best thing in our favour is we can go in with a nothing to lose attitude which will help ease the internal pressure

I'm still sticking by my pre-finals prediction - win the first two and get thumped in the prelim.
We can beat Collingwood, don't underestimate the advantage Sean Darcy over Darcy Cameron/Mason Cox provides. It's going to be a low scoring slog to victory
