From what I can gather the following 12 didn’t play in the intraclub:

J Williams (Spleen)
Darling (Ankle)
Petruccelle (Ankle)
L Edwards (Quad)
Barnett (Ankle)
Baker (Unknown)
Dewar (Unknown)
Allen (Managed/Hamstring?)
Shuey (Managed)
Sheed (Managed)
Bazzo (Personal leave)
Trew (Personal leave)

Everyone else played at least a half

Ankles, aye 😡

Reckon for Dewar it's just load management coming back from that foot injury. Has been doing more and more training recently but as a first-year player I think they held him out just to be cautious and make sure no stress related issues pop up.

As opposed to going "hmm you're a little sore but let's just assume everything is fine" 🙃

Hmm my engine is a little rattly but let's just assume it has engine oil instead of checking the dipstick.
Problem is with a dude with NN's history it could just be a spark plug or it could be an engine rebuild.

Broken arm for Rotham. Joins the expanding list of talls with issues

JWilliams (Spleen)
Naitanui (Achilles)
Darling (Ankle)
Barnett (Ankle)
BWilliams (Hamstring)
HEdwards (Back)
Bazzo (Managed/Unknown)

Some of those are minor but round 1 is now just a fortnight away

Dewar and Baker the only other players to not have some game time on Friday

Hopefully Bailey Williams’ hammy tightness and Harry Edwards’ back spasms are nothing serious and they’re right to go for Round 1.

From memory Gavin Bell said last week on radio that Barnett was aiming to play minutes in the first WAFL practice match on March 18.

Darling and Naitanui probably touch and go for Round 1.

Reckon Bazzo, Rotham and JWilliams will take a little longer, but still probably back in the first month.

Not ideal getting injuries at this time of the year, but I’m still trying to hold onto some optimism

Will be an interesting situation if Jamieson has to ruck on his own at the start of the season.
Just praying this doesn't mean Allen back as a pinch hitter.
Surely no chance since he'll be our sole true tall forward at that point unless Darling gets up in time.

McGovern hopefully

Barrass and Harry Edwards to have the key back posts

Pity Bazzo had his pre-season setbacks as he was also an option for down back

Season about to begin so that means the weekly injury updates will return starting today. My best guess at what it’ll look like is this

Naitanui (Achilles) - Test
Darling (Ankle) - Test
B Williams (Hamstring) - Test
J Williams ( Spleen) - Indefinite/TBC
Rotham (Arm) - 3-4 Weeks

There are a number of players who have not been training fully and probably won’t play the scheduled scratch match against Claremont but I don’t expect to see them listed - Barnett, Baker, Dewar, Bazzo are all unlikely to be match fit but aren’t injured as such so won’t be on the official injury list

Considering this was what our injury list looked like this time last year, we're actually in a very good spot in terms of our list health:

Luke Shuey (Hamstring) - Test
Luke Edwards (Groin) - 1 week
Liam Duggan (Knee) - 1-2 weeks
Connor West (Hamstring) - 2 weeks
Elliot Yeo (Calf) - 2-3 weeks
Oscar Allen (Foot) - 4-5 weeks
Tom Joyce (Ankle) - 4-5 weeks
Zane Trew (Shin) - 5-6 weeks
Greg Clark (Shoulder) - 6-7 weeks
Jamie Cripps (Pectoral) - 6-7 weeks
Dom Sheed (Ankle) - 8 weeks
Jack Darling (Foot) - TBC
Campbell Chesser (Ankle) - Inactive
Tom Cole (Ankle) - Inactive
There were also a number of players who were sick with Covid who aren't listed there

So we probably had 10 first-choice players who were unavailable for round 1. This week it's likely we'll only have one - Nic Naitanui, and even he's yet to be ruled out. Assuming Darling and BWilliams are both likely to play.

A hypothetical question.

If Harry Barnett was fit, would he debut round one as a desperate ruck backup for Jamieson? Definitely not ideal, but neither is the solution we face now.

Jamieson is likely to be monstered by Goldstein in round 1, Barnett would be worse at this stage of his development
