Injury SJOGHCIU - Offseason Edition

Considering this was what our injury list looked like this time last year, we're actually in a very good spot in terms of our list health:

Luke Shuey (Hamstring) - Test
Luke Edwards (Groin) - 1 week
Liam Duggan (Knee) - 1-2 weeks
Connor West (Hamstring) - 2 weeks
Elliot Yeo (Calf) - 2-3 weeks
Oscar Allen (Foot) - 4-5 weeks
Tom Joyce (Ankle) - 4-5 weeks
Zane Trew (Shin) - 5-6 weeks
Greg Clark (Shoulder) - 6-7 weeks
Jamie Cripps (Pectoral) - 6-7 weeks
Dom Sheed (Ankle) - 8 weeks
Jack Darling (Foot) - TBC
Campbell Chesser (Ankle) - Inactive
Tom Cole (Ankle) - Inactive
There were also a number of players who were sick with Covid who aren't listed there

So we probably had 10 first-choice players who were unavailable for round 1. This week it's likely we'll only have one - Nic Naitanui, and even he's yet to be ruled out. Assuming Darling and BWilliams are both likely to play.
Jesus - that captures just how bad things started in 2022

Yeah it's quite sobering isn't it? Easy to buy into the bullshit and assume we'll be in the bottom few this season based on media huff and puff but really we should be a much better side if we stay fit.

I hope in 5 years time we look back at 2022 as a blessing, forced us to bottom out and now we seem committed to seeing that through.

Jamieson is likely to be monstered by Goldstein in round 1, Barnett would be worse at this stage of his development

Assuming HEdwards, Rotham and Barnett were all fit - but obviously BW and NN not available - selection would be quite interesting.

I'd guess we would select Rotham (he has played the position before).

But if it were just between HEdwards and Barnett it would be a close call. Both will be pushed around - but Barnett from reports is a very good around-the-ground runner so may well have got the nod.

All a moot point of course, Ideally Nic gets up - but if not it seems like BW may well be right anyway.

That sounds like he won't be seen for weeks. Doing a little rehab block to strengthen up his muscles, which is something Simmo alluded to last night with Rhino. I don't think you can do a week or two of targeted muscle training and then be right to go. Would be more like months..

Sounds like he has been doing at least a couple of weeks of targeted training already, with at least another week to go prior to any real test on it.

3 weeks is an abbreviated training block no doubt, but would be enough to have at least some impact (whether that is enough or not is the next question).

Are these campaigners not going to give us the actual list with the estimated time out? I can't be bothered watching a 2 minute video for something I could read in 10 seconds.

If they're that cagey about the injuries then scrap the update all together. There doesn't seem to be any integrity around it anyway.

I just wonder if they'll look at it as an opportunity to rush him back when it's such a long season and we're happy take a few Ls and stay down the ladder anyway. Better off setting Nic up to stay in the team when he's ready instead of breaking down again

I got some bad news about that. Our Fijian friend is simply a ticking Timebomb. Wrong side of 30, history of serious injury, overweight.

Any time we see a stretch of 5 games from him will be near miraculous.
I think it's time to move on from him. Any games are a bonus but this year is all about seeing which of Jamo and B Williams can make it, then picking up some mature ruck cover in trade period.

Season about to begin so that means the weekly injury updates will return starting today. My best guess at what it’ll look like is this

Naitanui (Achilles) - Test
Darling (Ankle) - Test
B Williams (Hamstring) - Test
J Williams ( Spleen) - Indefinite/TBC
Rotham (Arm) - 3-4 Weeks

There are a number of players who have not been training fully and probably won’t play the scheduled scratch match against Claremont but I don’t expect to see them listed - Barnett, Baker, Dewar, Bazzo are all unlikely to be match fit but aren’t injured as such so won’t be on the official injury list

Official list now out

Injury list:

Jack Darling Ankle Available

Nic Naitanui Achilles TBC

Josh Rotham Arm 3-4 weeks

Bailey Williams Hamstring Available

Jack Williams Spleen TBC

Darling and Bailey both available rather than test

Nic further away than I’d thought

JWilliams and Rotham as expected
