It would be a gutsy call. I personally don't think it would be a great idea though. He's one of the few real shining lights by position on our list in that age group. If we were to be forced because Grundy wants to leave we're in a position to make the most out of a bad situation, but I wouldn't force the issue.

What would you expect for him?

I wouldn't do it either but everyone is assuming could be club led....,could be player led.

No question this players love him and in the same way a few cracked it when Mick left it might be the same scenario here at least at some level.

If he chose to go then I would think its two first rounds. One might be a very early 2nd.

Ruckman traditionally don't hold much trade currency unfortunately, he's worth a top 5 pick but we would never get that because if you're shit enough to have a top 5 pick you're likely to have bigger list holes than ruck.

Good Point. So we would want then a Player with Similar Currency

Traditionally ruckman have held plenty of currency it's only been recently they've gone on cheap.

Lot of talk about Mason Cox being capable of being a # 1 ruck.

It's left field and am not saying I think we should but what do we think par value for Brodie Grundy is on the open market?

Well that hypothetical lit up the forum. LOL

KPP's are the most challenging type of player to source or replace and develop, therefore least expendable. I would look at trading Cox over Grundy if it came to the crunch. Moore can back up in Ruck.

However, a more realistic trade for mine would be going after Lever and use some of our excess mids for collateral? Crows are in the window and would be shopping for an experienced mid.

How about... Lever to Pies, Sidey to Crows? Not enough? Then throw in one of the S.A. boys... Aish or Broomie? Or.... Lever to Pies, Sidey to Carlscum, and Gibbs to Crows? Take pick 5 or 6 to Draft for Brander.

Any takers?

Something I just do not understand, if I may ask?

Clubs would love to have a gun ten year ruckman of A grade potential.

So why when we have such a potential being would we even consider swapping him to use at best a C grade to B grade ruck option?

Just makes no sense to give away your prime beef in the hope you get a different slab of beef who might en be mutton dressed up as lamb.

If Lever does choose Collingwood we'd be mad not to get involved in the Gibbs deal imo. He's still contracted and Carlton will likely want more than the Crows can offer for him. I think we'll still have to give up pick 6, but it's all we may have to give up if it goes to Carlton. For pick 6 they may well be willing to give up their second in a reportedly shallow draft.

Collingwood give up pick 6
Carlton give up Gibbs, pick 20 or 21 (depending on ladder position)
Adelaide give up Lever

Collingwood receive Lever
Carlton receive pick 6
Adelaide receive Gibbs, pick 20 or 21

Carlton fans probably won't like it but Gibbs is another year older and his trade value at this point will diminish as each year passes.

I know it is only SEN but Brian Waldron is usually pretty good on his info.

“My understanding is he’s only going to one place and they’re black and white – Collingwood,” he told SEN’s Hungry for Sport.

“He’ll go to Collingwood and he’ll tell Adelaide as much when the season is over.” But wanting to get to a club and arriving at the destination are not mutually exclusive.

It would be if they weren't giving away their second. I reckon it's about the same value wise but pick 6 would be more enticing than Adelaides late first + steak knives.

If I'm a carlton fan I'd be thanking the 7 gods, the old gods and the new if Gibbs turned into pick 6.

Gibbs is worth a late first rounder naturally.

Since when would Sidey for Lever not be enough? If anything Adelaide would need to throw something else in

Gibbs has had a great year this year, i would say his worth a pick between like 5-15
No-one's doubting his ability, surely you're aware that the main argument here is his age?

There's no way he will get you a pick in the top 10.

Agree, Sidey at worst a match for Gibbs and a couple of years younger.

I come to the same question. Why do we need to get Renee.

Why can't we do to them what we got last year?

Or if not, keep it simple, give good to get good. Everyone wins.

Or better still get what we need, off lead what we dont need, get best available in the draft.

Then look forward to 2018 :)

The steak knife being offered Lyons was useless to them though. Not sure if any other names popped up but Carlton already had 2 reject mids from them they didn't want a third.

Lyons averaging 26 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 marks and 5 score involvements per game this year. He's as much of a reject as Witts was, wanting to leave for more opportunity. Both good players flourishing now they've been given a shot.

Maybe he's not?

OK, so Sidey will be 27 in January 2017 and has a few years of good footy in him. Gibbs will be slightly older at 29 by the time season starts too. Lever is definitely worth a high Rd 1 pick at worst. So perhaps Sidey (worth pick 5 -10) is a worth straight swap more or less for Lever (Top 10)?

Realistically, Sidey won't want to go anywhere and if anything would want to stay in Victoria. So if Crows want Gibbs (worth pick 10-15), and he wants to go home to SA. And Carlscum wanted Sidey, perhaps it should be Carlscum giving us something back in return like you said DPP?

  • Pies get Lever
  • Carlscum get Sidey (and give 3rd pick to Pies)
  • Crows get Gibbs

More doable now?

I just threw up in my mouth just a little at the thought of Sidey running around in navy blue...

He'd clean us up when we played them.

He ain't Thomas that's for sure as durable as an eveready
