Snoops 2016 List Management, Trade and Draft thoughts

yeah i started work on it last night. Think will be an interesting draft period as could be as many as 80 - 100 players taken. Thats a lot historically.

I reckon there are some clear cliffs in this draft ..at least when I look at it. I think the top 12 are very very good, the next 20 very good and then some quality til about 40-45 but after that it really drops off.

Implication for Collingwood is I think a bid for both boys will come post 28 (just) but before 44 so the last pick given what I reckon will be available will be poor. Having said that it could be someone slips through. Lets hope so.
Praying McCarthy slips through doubt we get that lucky though. See him being a future replacement for Reid

Worth a rookie pick
Many pundits would say Richards is only good for depth - then again we don't have much depth so we should go for him. He can play both ends, is mature without being old, has come from a good culture and won't cost much - which explains why no-one went after him during the trade period because they suspected the Swans would delist anyway

Apparently the Swans had a contract extension offer in front of him but pulled it and delisted him after he requested a trade. Basically said if he doesn't want to play for Sydney he can GAGF lol.

Would be very keen on X. Richards as a DFA, imagine he'll have a few clubs after him.

Yeah I would spend a spot on him for sure. I was really impressed with him vs GWS in the final ands thought he really worked hard to present. Even though is 195cm not sure he has / will develop the strength to hold a key position so makes it a bit hard to see where he fits amongst the forwards. Anyway a 2 year contract on $200k (if that) he is a free option.

Shame he cant play back. Reckon a few clubs would be into him if he had shown more form there.

which makes you wonder why so keen to have josh thomas back
Potentially they didn't want to be seen taking Keeffe back without taking Thomas back, and figured a couple of years on the rookie list wouldn't do much harm.

However I do know that way back in 2013, the year when Josh Thomas had a few good games including one against West Coast where he racked up 35 touches and a goal, that Bucks was very optimistic about his future. Remarked after seeing Josh spray a shot at goal while running inside 50 "He'll get better at that"

I think at 23 and having had (grand)finals experience he fits our list profile to a tee. Obviously has the upside, would be massively disappointed if we didn't take a punt on him.

Because at the time keeping Lachlan Keeffe (the key one of the two, hence we used the rookie draft straight away first round on him) meant by extension same courtesy had to be applied to Thomas.

He played back in a few NEAFL games. Surely could be converted.

Joshy thomas gets a bad wrap around here, he is quite handy. I remember a certain 3 goal 20 odd possesion game against GWS, practically dragged a struggling team over the line single handedly
Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Thomas as a player, but he doesn't currently fill a need for us either. Will be interesting to he how he goes this year.

He does get a bad wrap on this forum. To some extent, I can see why. His performances have been very up and down, and while i think his kicking woes are exaggerated (I think his kicking is untidy rather then a series of howlers like Marley or Greenwood), I can accept that good kicking isn't a feature of his game.

In terms of 'we already have his type"; I think thats nonsense. Obviously Treloar can combine an inside game with genuine pace, but I don't think anyone else on the list does...

Id also point out that that 3 goal game against GWS is not his only stellar game. Of his 30 odd games, I'll admit he has been anonymous in quite a few. But in 7 of em he has had 25-plus possessions, and in 5 of em multiple goals. Now obviously he needs to become more consistent, and it will be a big ask to comeback after two years off, but his best is pretty good IMO

1. He can't kick
2. He's tiny
3. That game against GWS he was playing against a bunch of teenagers.

If he fixed his kicking he'd be good but he's had plenty of opportunities to do that and he's still pretty bad.

edit: He had a great game against Freo when they were good if memory serves me correct.

1. He's not that bad of a kick.
2. He's built well and hard as nails
3. Ok that makes sense... the other 21 players should've had 25 And kicked 3 too then? He stood up in a team off its tune. Crddit where its due.

His kicking is top first 5 worst on the list imo - I'd even take Williams over him because at least he has some penetration. And 178cm and 77kg is not well built for a guy who does his best work around stoppages - the better inside mids these days are in the 90kg+ - that's a lot to give up. I don't question his courage.

I don't think credit should be handed out for one or two good games over a career. It's a while ago but if I remember he stagnated and was disappointing in his last season. Very lucky to still be on the list imo

To be fair basically the entire team had stagnated by the end of 2014.
