When can Thomas and Keeffe actually come back to the club? Is it November?

Edit: It's December.
The pair had a significant legal win on Wednesday after their bans were backdated by a month to allow them to play in the 2017 NAB Cup.

Their bans have been altered to expire two years after they were tested, rather than two years after they were notified of their positive tests in March 2015.

It means they can play again on February 9, 2017, in time to play the entire 2017 NAB Challenge series as they try to win back their spots.

Under WADA rules they can also train with the club again from December 9 next year.

From memory Josh had some amazing games where you thought how good can this kid be. He has good zip, hard as nails with average footskills, was capable of impacting the score board. Inconsistency in his form due to injury let him down. like Sinclair we where waiting for him to take the next step.

It will be interesting to see how we deal with Thomas and Keeffe.

They are currently on the rookie list, meaning they would need to be upgraded to play. However, we also have Mason Cox and Josh Smith on the rookie list.

I count that we have 6 senior list spots available, but we'd surely want to take at least 3 or 4 to the draft, and pick up 1 or 2 Delisted Free Agents.

Leaves things pretty tight. I would've thought we leave at least 1 list spot vacant for a rookie upgrade.

So I don't think we are going to be able to promote any rookies.

Therefore, unless we cop a Long Term Injury, it will leave Keeffe, Cox, Smith and Josh Thomas all fighting for the one rookie upgrade come the start of the season. For me, Keeffe is essential on the senior list, and Cox is needed as backup ruck or key forward as well. Smith and JT may have to be patient.

My prediction:
Marsh to be delisted
No DFA
4 draftees
Upgrade Smith
I think that'll give us a list of 38,
Cox, Keeffe and Thomas still on the rookie list.
3 rookies drafted- one an experienced ruckman, eg. Minson.

Rick Henderson delisted, is he worth it on the cheap?

Josh was BOG in his 2nd last game for us v GWS in Rd 22 2014. 29 touches, 3 goals 8 tackles. Will be interesting to see how he goes in the NAB challenge, you'd imagine he'd be chomping at the bit.

According to this thread, notifications for rookies being promoted to the senior list for next year had to be in today by 2pm.

So, barring any further announcements, it would seem that our remaining Category A rookies (Smith, Keeffe and Thomas) will remain as such for 2017, along with Cox as a Category B rookie.

You need a minimum of 38 to constitute a valid Primary List. In that scenario, the club then has scope to "nominate" two rookies for AFL selection before the start of the season. By my count, we have 33 currently filled Primary List positions (factoring in Marsh's seemingly looming departure), so that requires at least another 5 players for a minimum senior roster. In an ideal scenario, that would be Pick 28, Brown, Daicos and two others coming through either our very late picks or Delisted Free Agency.

Well my question above just got answered.

That currently brings us to 35 on the senior list. Surely Marsh is delisted and we re-rookie him.

So with 34 list spots, i propose we take one or 2 DFAs (Henderson or Litherland would be my choices) and then take 3-4 draft picks.

Leaves us with 39 primary list players with room to upgrade one rookie pre-season. It means either Mason Cox or Josh Smith are ready to go if required.

Leaves us 2 picks in the rookie draft as well, which one i would use on Will Minson, Luke Lowden or Jack Fitzpatrick as backup ruck. Lowden would be my choice.

Yeah Lowden gets my vote of those 3

Although , im neglecting the fact we need to keep open enough spots for the picks that carry points into the draft i think. I believe that was the rule tweak this year so teams cant stock pile late picks as a loophole for academy or Father Sons. Im not privy to the workings of this rule . if thats the case, we may not look at DFAs pre draft.

Hi,

How much midfield time would you give De Goey next year with the recruitment of Mayne as well as health Elliot and Fasolo? Personality I'd like him to have a permanant spot and be that clearance specialist we need. However knowing Buckley anything could happen.

I think he should be getting 60-70% mid time. Let's face it our midfield is one of the worst at clearances, we need to change something up in there. He's a beast, let him learn by throwing him in there for the first 10 rounds and see how he goes.
