We had to use high picks to get Heeney Blakey and Mills.

Gulden was in the open draft and nobody besides the Cats wanted him .

Whose fault is shit talent identification?

Not the AFL.fault you burnt picks 4 on will.phillips.

Your mob could have bid on Gulden but you didn't.
North could have have had Gulden, JHF, Reid

Yeah and guess what? We had to use high picks to get them.

Isn't the whole idea to use high picks on good players and not shit players?

If you think that's an AFL conspiracy then that's fine.

And didn't you just win a flag with three father son players?

Seriously get a grip.
Pies and Swans supporters talking about which team got the most hand outs is like going to dinner with Gina Reinhart and Twiggy Forrest and watching them argue about who's going to pay the bill.

it's like watching a car crash video - entertaining and you can't look away.

that's st kilda, every year
That’s a little rich is it not Essendon have been as irrelevant as club in the comp for the last 20 years have one good start to a season now there talking down other clubs

See this is the classic Ross defence about him getting most from the list

They are far more talented team than what the straight jacketed lifeless game plan offers
Spot on.

It’s so predictable the “Ross doesn’t have the cattle” bleating that has started recently.

It’s pure deflection.

And, I make no bones about this, if Ross is allowed to convince people we need a full re-build, our club is at serious risk of folding.

Ross Lyon and his prehistoric methods simply can’t develop players for the modern game where skill execution is paramount.

You simply couldn’t choose a worse coach to develop modern footy players.

Sadly though, there are many Saints fans who are in lock step with the president in thinking Ross is some sort of messiah and guru.

It’s not much better than a cult at this stage.

You lost the GF and got acces to Heeney who was rated top two /three in the draft.

When Ross and his mates have all collected their superannuation in a few years and fled the scene of the crime, that president should have a lot of answering to do.
But he won’t, he’ll just move on and it’s the members that’ll be left with the club’s carcass …

at least essendon doesn't have to go back to 1965 for the last time we won something!!!

/thread

posts like this show that you don't care about your club improving, grow up

If the other 17 clubs had several years to see him play and teach him how to play then they could identify his talent.

Got Mills the year after winning a GF rated top 3 and got Blakey after playing finals.

Pretty easy to pass judgement if you receive such a huge advantage.

Things look bleak but every club is one great draft away from being right back in business , a couple of ready to go guns early and 3 or 4 solid B22 players with later picks

It’s tricky to do obviously but it’s possible

Dunno if SOS would be my number 1 pick to pick the eyes out of a draft though

Full blown nuffy.

You are delusional.

Maybe lay off the kool aid for a while.

Entire game plan is trying to stop the opposition score. Cannot score themselves. Average less than 2 goals a quarter for the last month.

The ball movement is VFL standard.

Im here live and there are very few saints fans. About ten sad depressed folk in the cheer squad.

Lyon is a disaster

Yet, here you are spending your time posting on BF. Not like you, thought you would enjoy a bit of live Saints self destruction

I was dead against Lyon being signed by the Blues (and wasn't that keen on Voss coaching the Blues either for the record - still a bit uneasy about him). His record in the last 4 yrs at freo was horrible and he was accordingly sacked. To add to that was the unsavoury sexual harrassment scandal that resulted in a non-disclosure settlement. Not sure if it got buried in the media or just got forgotten about outside WA.

The game and rules have changed a lot in the past 10 yrs - interchange caps, 6-6-6 rule, runner restrictions, etc. AFL wants faster games, higher scoring, excitement, and will keep tweaking the rules to try ensure it. For what it's worth I don't think the Saints list is that bad, they're underachieving at the moment, but just not sure Lyon is willing to cede to his assistants to tactically change things around on game day.
Dockers went from making top 4 in 2015 to 0-10 in 2016 and crippled with injuries that season.

I am still bitter about that 2016 season. But I knew it was a start of a long rebuild.

Hence why freo got 8 wins each in 2017 and 2018.

Yes Ross Lyon was sacked after 4 years of no finals. But when we got Justin Longmuir as a replacement, 75 to 80 percent of the rebuild was done.

Here is an objective article (not written by a Lyon groupie and disciple)

How fallen Saints are failing at both ends of the ground - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1136171

So basically:
- Scores from turnover are drying up (not surprising given lack of depth across small forwards this year with Higgins and Butler out for periods).

- other sources for scoring such as from stoppage continue to be dry (once again, lack of depth and talent across middle from 10-15 years butchered recruitment, leaving us with no top end midfield talent).

- There’s a form slump across the playing group this year.

Wow, really riveting stuff you’re pumping out here lol. Clearly something neither the club or its supporter base is aware of. Something that’s been on record basically since pre bye last year.

All the old vultures are out in force again, make the most of it as we will be bouncing back into finals contention again next year.

I hope so...

Liam henry and that stupid goal celebration vs Freo last week.

Then his toughness showed in the final quarter... good 4th quarter stats when the close game is on the line too.

True

Propped up with Warner from WA and pick 39 in the draft and then Gulden pick 32 and Grundy and James Jordon.

Maybe if the Saints hadn't burnt picks on McCartin, Billings, Coffield and Clark we wouldn't be having this chat.

That’s being disingenuous mate, which raises a lot of flags in itself really. Care to mention either Heeney or Mills for starters.

It’s also contradicting, as here we are saying that poor recruitment hasn’t helped the club, yet that’s been rebutted many times with the hey it’s all Ross poor game style not the list.

Then there’s the issue of that Saints don’t have a whole lot of levers if their recruitment fails, unlike Sydney and access to talent via their academy.

There’s all for having an honest and fruitful discussion, then there’s just sitting on a pedestal and bashing on another club/particular coach.

So, like Essendon lol? Birds of a feather.
still doesn't answer my question mate, what went wrong today.

no injuries to key players, no jake leaver to dismantle your forward line, all these stars like... paddy dow, coming in to tear the game apart.

i'm curious - i only saw the last quarter and the dead time goals made an embarrassing result less so

I disagree with that.

Dockers 2022 side that won an elim final was built on from drafting kids from the 2016, 2017 and 2018 drafts. Some of THose blokes in those years were developed under Ross Lyon

Your comment didn’t have a question. Here it is below. So back to the point, bit rich coming from an Essendon supporter:

“it's like watching a car crash video - entertaining and you can't look away.
