Like you said Pies a good example they looked on the brink of collapse with thier list after the salary cap issues, guys like Pendles looked finished etc majority of footy experts were tipping Pies bottom 4

In comes McRae and they go from 17th to missing a GF by a point

Things can change very quickly if a struggling club appoints a good coach imo
In fairness, the Pies side has a very similar neucleuous as the 2018 GF side. A side that also made a prelim in 2019, and a semi final in 2020. 2021 was the anomaly. The list was always competing. A refresh of coaching has helped, as well as a few recruits, but they were always there abouts.

Sydney are a different example, as they went down for a few seasons, but they are fortunate to have academies on young talent, as well as their natural good development and coaching.

This is a classic list built to make finals rather than win premierships, and that’s the biggest error you can make. They will regress and push for the top 8 over the next couple of years but I can’t see much more than that. I have them 3-8 come the bye, and maybe 8 wins total for the season.
🤣🤣🤣

People keep talking about how many players they have missing but how many would you want to change from tonight's team? Steele, King for sure, Membrey probably but after that the guys in the side are playing great.

Gotta be happy as a saints fan.

McKenzie would be frothing in this sytem, not that many oppo fans would know who he is

Super athlete and tough

Not convinced they make the eight just yet, but people forget they missed the finals by a game over the last two years and haven't lost any real talent since. Felt sorry for Ratten, particularly for the way he was treated, but it certainly looks like an astute move so credit to them. Them being this good isn't a surprise so much as its great to see how the youngsters have stepped up in the absence of King and Membrey.

I put my hand up and admit I never saw this coming.
Not only did I write off some of their emerging young talent, just never believed Ross Lyon would be the man capable of taking this list to the next level.

Early days but you can see by the way they are setting up all over the ground they are right in the hunt. Certainly looking good things to play finals. Not to mention, they are winning without King, Membrey, Steele, Billings, Hayes and a couple of others.

To me Lyon is surrounding himself with good talent. Harvey , Hayes , and Enright are all good coaches in their own right.
Do Essendon really think Scott will take them anywhere?

Only likely replacements for Wood are Bytel if he's fit and maybe Jack Peris gets a debut. Either way that's a huge out for us.

Wood plays as an outside mid, Bytel totally inside.
Connolly would be ahead of Peris.
He's played OK in the backline, he could play there and let Paton or Wangennen-Milera play further up the ground.

Not going to replace Wood though, but so far a different player has popped his head up each week. Byrnes was amazing in round 1.

Suns - win
Collingwood - loss
Carlton - ?
Port - win
North - win
Adelaide - win
Giants - win
Hawks - win

Could well be 7-1 if they don’t s**t themselves
lost another 2 unfortunately Wood with an AC joint and Webster with a fractured Cheekbone

as much as I love how we are going, can't see us winning next week, won't see any back from injuries till Port Adelaide so could well be 3-3 coming into Port game

Suns at Marvel?
Wouldn't write the Saints off.

I think i'd go Connolly for Sub, and Sharman to take Owens place in the forward line while Owens moves to the wing.

They've played 3 bottom 6 teams so far, let's wait and see how they go against the big buoys.

Geez I'd like to see your ladder predictor.

Or are you saying that the current ladder is what we judge by? That would be a fair comment later in the season, but it's a bit hard for us to beat clubs towards the top when we've already added an L to them.

Just a harder fall when it comes, and it will.

At least we are climbing Everest under our own steam.

Unlike the Dogs who got help from the sherpas/umpires.
